A: There's an election going on. What's happening and how does it work?

ben is uǝq backwardsWhat's happening? The community is electing diamond ♦ moderators; those individuals responsible for moderating the site the election is happening on. Elections are called as needed by the Stack Exchange Community Team on all sites. Depending on the site's current status, the election will either ...

@DialFrost Pro-tem mods need to re-run for election on graduation to keep their spot; normal mods are elected for life.
The latter requires a competitive election; i.e., at least one candidate who does not get elected.

so pro-term mods need to re-run during graduation of the site?

yep
in part because they may be simply appointed due to being the only candidate

5:24 AM
> Winners of pro tem elections are elected with the understanding that when the site has its first full election, they must nominate in that election as a candidate and be re-elected, or they'll cease to be moderators once that is over.

@RyanM so the only way they can be pro term is during graduation right?

5:54 AM
@DialFrost In a nutshell, pro-tem mods are mods who became moderators before graduation.
The term "pro-tempore moderators" was originally used to mean moderators who had been manually selected and appointed to be moderators by the CM team on a new Beta site - for instance, that's how I got my diamond on Literature.SE. After a site would graduate, the CM team would run an election to select the moderator team instead of having the pro-tem team automatically continue.
In 2018, Stack started running elections on Beta sites, although they run slightly differently than on non-beta sites. The moderators elected through a Beta election are still considered pro-tem moderators, though, and have to re-run for election after graduation.

@Mithical ah ic thx

Question: is it ok to put smiley faces in comments?

6:49 AM
@DialFrost yes, comments are more lax regarding smiley/emoticons
considering they can be deleted at any time...

ah ok

7:20 AM
quick question: do I report the bug of the close votes queue having a red dot even though there arent any posts to review?
or is there no need

@DialFrost go crazy 🤪

well, it's a known issue and has been reported a few times... like

Q: Please don't show the red dot indicator for review items I can't do

hatThis is not a duplicate of Please don't red alert me for queues I've handled, because this reports different things from that question. That question is specifically about the case where the user has run out of daily reviews; this question reports different problems outlined in the below bullets....

what's triage? it seems to appear in old review queues

@MetaAndrewT. if it bugs you so much why don't you move to Canada

Strange this questions shows the question with status-review

Q: Please don't red alert me for queues I've handled

user310756I have found the red alert has been helpful in prompting me to review queues. There should be red when there's red dots against review queues: image stolen from When I look at the review icon, I see red However, when I have used all my reviews for some queues: If those queues are large eno...

@DialFrost Triage is only available on SO

but the answer says its status-planned

@Feeds not XKCD too! This is getting out of box

@MetaAndrewT. What does it do?

@M.A.R. I planned to be moved to Canada!

@DialFrost it's a "yeah we get it, stop bothering us" status-planned

@M.A.R. heh

Q: How does the Triage review queue work?

BSMPI recently got the privilege to review questions in Triage, and I'm pretty sure I'm already doing it wrong. I've read some of the Q&A about the Triage review queue here on Meta, but I was wondering if there is a guide explaining how it works and how I should be reviewing. What do the four review ...

@MetaAndrewT. don't status-planned the important decisions in life, status-completed them.

@M.A.R. got status-deferred in the process though!

@MetaAndrewT. oh wow that interesting! Unfortunately I'm quite bad at coding so I can't really do anything on that site :/

@Mithical one thing I've never gotten right is how to spell that. Pro-tem pore? Pro tempore? Protempore? Prot empore?

7:36 AM
Its all latin to me

let me English: pre-temporary

Latin is just hieroglyphs if your drawing is terrible

@MetaAndrewT. Another question again :P
why does the rep under people's name here show their rep only on meta? On other sites the rep shows all the site rep combined I think
or i am just being dumb and nothing is wrong

@DialFrost because of chat server separation. There are 3 chat servers: SO.chat, SE.chat, and Meta.SE.chat. SO.chat only counts rep on SO, Meta.SE.chat only counts rep on Meta.SE, but SE.chat counts rep on all sites combined. You can check the domain on the URL.

Oh tysm

Looks like whatever tool they were testing isn't working very well, after all. ;(
@M.A.R. pro team for you

@Feeds geez, even onebox is broken

2:46 PM
Onebox only works on guest posts for some reason

@JourneymanGeek nope, it's random, also seeing it broken on guest posts sometimes. I think.

It must be a professional quirk but I wish they'd credit the illustrator on the blog posts. Some of these images are quite nice!

@curious that seems a reasonable thing to ask for

sometimes people don't want to be credited but it looks to me like there's more than one style so probably more than one illustrator

@ShadowTheKidWizard I'm a great team player, but I cannot guarantee the mental safety of my teammates. I'm not their health insurance.

@M.A.R. sounds good!
@M.A.R. you shine too bright?

@ShadowTheKidWizard . . . Yyyyeah, that's the word. Haha. Shine. Haha.
