How do I search for a symbol on a Stack Exchange site?
crypto.stackexchange.com/search?q=user:54184+%C2%A7 is a search of my posts on Cryptography for the section symbol §, but it returns all posts, even those without that symbol.

A: Searching for a specific Unicode character returns all posts

Qantas 94 HeavyJust use double quotes (") around the character: Super User search example That only returns 5 results, instead of 342 563.

A: How can I find the default KDF for my version of GPG?

forestGnuPG uses an algorithm called S2K (String-to-Key). This isn't unique to GnuPG, and is actually part of the official OpenPGP standard, specifically RFC 4880 § 3.7. The strongest version of this KDF, version 3, works by repeating the key and the salt many times and hashing the whole result. The s...

maybe it broke again? offs to search up more

(Showing that I do in fact have answers with § in them)

A: Umlauts in search?

Nick CraverWe'll support other (non A-Z & a-z) Unicode characters in search starting with the next build so your exact search works. If you want to search before we push that (sometime later today) then use quotes like this: user:546730 "übermensch"

Where they said it should work? I think that's what that says

@bobble The link they provide shows 0 results.

welp maybe it broke. Hard for me to check since on mobile

Q: ² (squared) not a valid search or url character

cdeEdit: This is not a duplicate of that question, because this does not work, while that was fixed. So this is a new issue. The character ² is not a valid search character. On EE.SE, one common term is I2C, sometimes (correctly) spelled as I²C (IIC or I-squared-C). A search for I²C does not thro...

Yeah that shows that it's having a hard time with superscript 2 as well.

Here's the last related post I found: meta.stackexchange.com/q/104295/1017231
And with that my search abilities have dried up

@forestdistrustsStackExchange you can't. Use Google or SEDE with a where posts.body like '%™%' but that only works if you can limit the number of posts. On SO that is likely to fail when run on the full table.

@JourneymanGeek nope, no tables in SEDE with such fields.

Hi @Oded

Hello people :)

Oded!!!1!!!!!
Helllo
My favorite chef

gets unrooted due to @Oded showing up ...

Heh
How's everyone doing?

Most shocking news for me: I've become a mod on Stack Apps. How are you?

@rene whoa that's extreme ;)

I'm doing well - despite being in the UK...
My condolences on becoming a mod.

@Oded relocation? Or vaccation?

11:06 AM
Been living here for over 20 years

@Oded I'm still in denial ...

@Oded dang, my memory is faulty
running CHKDSK

@rene at least you get to see somewhat behind the scenes in the teacher's lounge

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 comes with age.
I suggest going with Windows 11.

11:08 AM
Yeah TL is great for posting more of my lame jokes.

@Oded but based on past experience, it will be as bad as Windows 8

Depends on what you class Windows 10 as - one release or... multiple

One
One with lots of color changes.

Fair

For me, if they insist on MS accounts and no local accounts, that may push me to alternatives.

Maybe they even moved cheese around, but nothing more than that.

Windows 10: What the heck did they change now and how do I turn it off

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 If it'll even run

@Oded yeah super annoying, but keep in mind android is the same, requires Google account.

I know. And apple are the same.

11:10 AM
@Oded yup
So no real alternative.

Linux isn't too bad if you're the right sorta technical

Just because other companies are doing bad things doesn't mean MS has to follow suit.
Linux is just labor intensive. And when it breaks... good luck.

@Oded Well... there's always Haiku... :D

@rene I almost got heart attack when huge XBOX banner popped all over my screen after a reboot and didn't see any way to close it.
Power off, reboot, twice, and it was gone.

@JourneymanGeek SerenityOS is where the cool kids are

11:12 AM
No idea what it was, don't want to know. lol
@Oded oh, like Codidact? ;)

@Oded sounds like the sorta thing I'd be all over 10 years ago :D

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@JourneymanGeek hehe it will run, but in a terrible way

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 oh...
I have an officially supported processor that should have fTPM...
but the only way to enable it is to hack the bios

11:15 AM
Past observations are that MS OS releases are bad-good-bad-good-bad-good

That's what shadow man is alluding to.

"good" is relative too

Better than bad?

"Less bad than the previous one"

11:16 AM
@Oded though - I suspect the version bump here is to try to 'break' the need to support older machines, rather than any substancial change

Relativity theory of operating system rating
@JourneymanGeek also marketing. Without a version change/rename, it is difficult to say "new and shiny"

@Oded they were trying to get people into the idea of 'windows as a service'
And I don't think people have been excited about a windows release since... IDK... 95

Well, they did say that windows 10 was going to be the last version of windows...

yup
and I think for businesses, they actually sell windows as a sub or were planning to

Well, that was the idea behind Windows 10.
Looks like for 11, local accounts will be possible for PRO. May have to upgrade all machines to PRO for that.

11:39 AM
@Oded what reminded you of us? Just curious... ;)
Usually it's me digging up lurkers or long gone people... :P

Just some of the meta drama that bubbled to the ex-SO slack :D
Found it amusing that the second ever collections article was off-topic
The community team really need to write some guidance for collection admins.

@Oded wait, what drama? lol

Q: Are articles allowed to be off-topic?

Dalija PrasnikarThere is a new article posted in Google Cloud Collective: Welcome Google Cloud Community But the Article is not a technical post offering solution to a problem, but rather a "Welcome to collective" post that also asks for feedback. Basically, such a post would be otherwise considered blatantly of...

I keep away from there. lol

I don't see bright future for Collectives, but meh... hope to be wrong.
I found tons of bugs, reported two, and called it a day.

Yeah. SO always had a problem with follow through.

Doubt the bugs would be fixed, more likely dismissed as by design even though it's horrible UX.
(one is misleading count of members, it's X in one place and Y in other place, Y being much more than X.)
(the other is wrong link in revisions, mod reported other bug as comment and they fix only that other bug. Go figure.)

Problem 1 - it was developed in the dark. No real community input (sure, there were some representatives, but not many and unlike a proper beta program, new cohorts were never introduced). Problem 2 - alignment. It was developed to solve problems for SO & partners, not users.

@Oded true & true
Wait, how you know? You took part? @Oded
Or was it all written somewhere?

I have my ways ;)

11:53 AM
hacker alert
red light spinning
:D

@Oded Still not much of a community team, even if its better than before
And our community team, while I'm sure is excellent, is mostly folks people don't know that well
That'll change with time but... yeah, time.

@JourneymanGeek ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Oded cya! Later.... hope it's sooner than 6-8 months.... :D
