12:00 AM
@NordineLotfi less than a gig currently but we have a lot of extra space available on it in case we fubar or it blows up in size
but it's nothing compared to that copy of the Ubuntu Archive Mirror for amd64/i386 releases, that thing's a beast compared to anything else on my cluster
@Spevacus the big problem was the disk I/O until it got shoved on a dedicated SSD

Finally got my place of work to install almost every work computer with an SSD. It's glorious.

@ThomasWard so you could throw it all in Ram, at least when you change disk :D

@NordineLotfi little hard to do that, VMware has no concept of RAMDisk
and the Rails app that MS runs as is pain
and heavy on disk and RAM resources already so running all that as a ramdisk is a no-go

@ThomasWard hmm, true. If this was qemu, i guess it would have more luck to work, knowing the codebase is easier (whatever that mean)

@NordineLotfi true, but you still run into the RAM problem when MS actively tries to eat at least 50% of 6GB of allocated RAM plus swap it eats too
if it were something smaller that didn't have such heavy resource needs I'd say yeah ram-disking it is totally possible
but not for MS which has many other requirements

12:12 AM
@ThomasWard Yeah, you're right :/. why not run Linux on your VM then? (unless the codebase prevent it)

@NordineLotfi ... it is running on Linux :P
all the VMs I run are Linux except for certain things (RHEL dev machine, pfSense firewall, VMware on the host nodes in the cluster)

@ThomasWard OH, i misunderstood, my bad :D

but attempting to load all the MS stuff and OS and such into RAM would overload the VM's allocated resources, because it does fluctuate usage sometimes
but that's a different discusison
and one we're working on ;)

@ThomasWard if you ever need an idea man, I'm here :D

what I really need is free money :P

12:29 AM
@ThomasWard Ha!

Honestly, same.

well i need $2100 in free monz for reasons so whistles nonchalantly

we all do, we all do... cough

Wasted my CV on a misguided dupe VTC, that's... what... 6 failures now? I should go to bed at this point.

@Spevacus that's 7 failures because you're now whining about it. (just kidding, but you know what I mean)

12:37 AM
Heh, fair.

sleep beckons for you :P
8 for actually agreeing with me xD

Good lord.

9 for actually sleeping Ha!

Do I hear 10?

10 for self-deprecating humor here.
11 because you had to ask.

12:39 AM
12 for dreaming of what's happening now

13 because you're still here and not sleeping. xD
(sorry we're having fun xD)

I love this community.
Alright, later!

Hey, can anyone open this page physics.stackexchange.com/users/272922 ....i was chatting with this user whose parent account was a page-not-available

8:38 AM
@Cagliostro only a physics mod might see something. I wonder if the user patented their chat account there then deleted the site account

9:13 AM
@JourneymanGeek In that case...the account data should have been available on SEDE? but it isn't...infact there's no other account of that user as checked by SEDE
hidden included

9:35 AM
@Cagliostro SEDE has a uh... weekly snapshot?

mag
SEDE is updated every sunday night
what you see is the data from the last update

9:59 AM
@JourneymanGeek as @mag stated , sunday was half a week ago....i should've got some trace unless it is possible to run a chat account without a stack account
@JourneymanGeek kind of, there's a functionality to find all accounts of a user (hidden included)

10:26 AM
sure but I kinda need something else - say the chat account link :D

Rob
10:54 AM
@Cagliostro SEDE has no questions, answers, or comments. I need the username to look further.

11:12 AM
@Rob I have got a blank space ___...And I'll write this name
Nice to meet you where you been: TS

hhmmm
Something seems borked
@Cagliostro the user you linked has 35. This one has 11

@JourneymanGeek So you found the acc

@Cagliostro I just searched for the name on the site
no mod-magic (TM) required

But it's not the same linked on Chat SE

@Cagliostro I will show you incredible things...
@Cagliostro which is curious

11:18 AM
@JourneymanGeek Keep you second guessing like...Oh my god, who is she?

(heh, isn't it "Magic, Madness, Heaven Sin"?)
I might get bored and lip sync to songs at work. Yay masks

@JourneymanGeek I am writing in context of the chat

@Cagliostro or he lol

@JourneymanGeek I did that while writing an entrance test lol
@JourneymanGeek Saniya is a she name...unless....xD

Its also a way to reference to a minor hindu deity in some indian languages :D

11:23 AM
@JourneymanGeek dont know about the reference...But I am pretty sure the name is feminine (am Indian)

which in some contexts could be a minor swear

@JourneymanGeek ??

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shani was thinking of this one :D

@JourneymanGeek Shani hahaha xD not equivalent
Shani is also reffered as saturday

ah but the H is a northern thing
We tend to speak pronounce things with less hes - in face tamil's probably got all those rounded off I suspect

11:25 AM
@JourneymanGeek Ohh yaa, its H in every name....and yes I suppose
I'll try linking my chem account with chat SE and deleting it

(heh, india is hardly a homogenus culture, even within the same language-group :D )
If you break anything, its your fault :D

And I think no mods can see this
@JourneymanGeek Broken
@JourneymanGeek same language? xD

@Cagliostro say within tamil - there's regional variations, some casty weirdness...

@JourneymanGeek different dialects within languages

@Cagliostro and cultures

11:30 AM
I have anonymized chat stack exchange lol
@JourneymanGeek yeah...not to jump any further

@Cagliostro I can literally open my mouth, and talk tamil and someone can figure out my background lol

mag
@JourneymanGeek I often joke that I know an indian from singapore :D

@JourneymanGeek is it so lol...in hindi/bengali i can differentiate urban suburban and rural tones
but no always
@mag There are indians all over the world xD

@mag ah wierd thing is people in singapore have an easier time :D
I suspect to indians, I sound like "Would you happen to have the time, good sir?"

mag
@Cagliostro I know two indians that live nearby but they're both not that indian
they aren't religious, they hate the guts of the caste system and they eat cow meat. Also despite coming from india as children they don't have any accent in german or english and don't speak any indian language

11:35 AM
and since my parents left pre-70s, in the middle of the anti hindi movement, and when india was closed off, my tamil has less mixing :D
@mag Pretty sure that even if I turned my back on my culture, I'd be lactovegan lol
unless I worked out a suitable replacement for proper yogurt.

@mag even i dont have an accent of any where
Can speak spanish, german, hindi, bengali, russian(a bit), not english xD

lol
I am told I have ALL THE ACCENTS in english

mag
I sometimes joke with them that they eat more meat then I do
I've never heard you talk journey so I can't judge
but I believe it

@mag I wouldn't be surprised if they were my folks, lapsed

@JourneymanGeek Are you over 50?
am just 17

11:37 AM
Uh
Not yet. Not for quite a while ;p

70s?

...
DO I SOUND THAT OLD?
just barely late 30s :D

You said 70s....I just calculated

mag
@JourneymanGeek don't ask questions whence you don't want an answer :P

@Cagliostro My parents left india in the 70s lol
I wasn't born then

11:39 AM
@JourneymanGeek oh...terrible misinterpretation

mag
although

I thought you were vibing to TS songs in the early 50s xD

mag
I do know a sikh person too

@Cagliostro only if I was a time traveller
@mag Observant or non observant?

Rob
@Cagliostro Using the first (?) name only I found one deleted user and two possible different people (or alternate usernames): metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/spammers/3707 history.stackexchange.com/users/37245/anindya-mondal stackoverflow.com/users/2421900/anindya-sankar-dasgupta

11:44 AM
I have accounts only on math, Tex, phy, SO and meta
@Rob none match with me

Rob
Looks like either a bug in registering the account or the user did something and got their account deleted, yanking them out from under you.

@Rob I think that they registered their account, accepted chat privileges, deleted the account, recreated the account....in that case, the reputation on Chat SE must freeze
I think mine did freeze

Rob
They should still be in the transcript.

@Rob they=? and transcript of what?
is chat account seperate for all SE accounts...I dont see a link between other chats and this

mag
@JourneymanGeek actually observant
the whole belief system is really cool in my view. I'm not religious myself but I can get onboard with religions like sikhism, from what I gather a lot of it is about helping others
they even have a temple where you can eat for free if you want
apparently at most days you can just come in and you will get a meal for free, (I think it's vegetarian though). No clue how they fund it, but it's a legit operation

Rob
12:05 PM

@mag I can respect a religion built around "Y'all REALLY NEED TO GET ALONG"
@mag its one of the pillars of their faith to feed people , and never turning anyone away cause they can't eat there

mag
@JourneymanGeek I can get behind running a giant soup kitchen as a central tenant of faith
It's not like i'd ever believe a god is telling me to do that but if superstition results in an unequivocally good outcome it can be justified, imo.

12:45 PM
@mag I think common sense, and concern for the rest of humanity are great foundations for faith :D

mag
yea
in a certain way I still don't like religion
a pleasant and useful lie is still a lie
but it's easier to tolerate when its people do good in the name of it

heh, We were having a conversation about that the other day

@mag community funded..and also, there are services to contribute to..i.e. serving/cleaning/cooking etc
@mag haha xD....

@terdon you still reading The City We Became?

mag
@Rubiksmoose is that fantasy?

@mag Yep. One of my new favorite authors.
Been tearing through her stuff like crazy

mag
who is it

Nora K. Jemisin (born September 19, 1972) is an American science fiction and fantasy writer who has also worked as a counseling psychologist. Her fiction includes a wide range of themes, notably cultural conflict and oppression. She has won several awards for her work, including the Locus Award. As of her August 2018 win, the three books of her Broken Earth series have made her the first author to have won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in three consecutive years or for all three novels in a trilogy.In 2009 and 2010, Jemisin's short story "Non-Zero Probabilities" was a finalist for the Nebula and...

mag
she wrote the broken earth series right?
I read and liked that one a lot

1:10 PM
Yes indeed! Those were my first ones as well

mag
I shall read that one as well

Yay! I'm in the middle of it now. You'll have to let me know what you think of it.

mag
I was a big fan of the converging perspective flips in the broken earth series

Yesss! I was actually surprised by it too. I didn't catch on until about where the books wanted you to.

mag
It's masterfully done, I didn't suspect a thing until the name / coin drop moment and at that point it was really satisfying to see all the setup click into place you could see exactly that that was where she intended for you to find out too

1:26 PM
@Rubiksmoose started it, but got distracted so I'm barely past the beginning. It didn't pull me in as much as I expected.

@terdon I can see why that might be the case. I'll say that we get a bit of an ensemble cast and they are pretty interesting. But I think the hooks in her other books were better.
Maybe
@mag It seriously was. Like I hadn't even considered it. It was a while before I realized that it was actually in the past even.

1:59 PM
Ohh, Broken Earth?
I've been meaning to read that for ages.

mag
do it
it's really good

@mag I will!

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that @mag used to have an -isch.

mag

@mag phew, I thought there was some newbie who came in and got RO status in a month! :P

I can't see them unless I have 3000 reputation, post owner or not.
I do have 3k here, but not elsewhere.

@Ollie we should have changed that wording. The names are only visible in the post notice to privileged users, not the OP.

@Catija I know.

Where are you seeing it?

@Catija on every closed post.

2:15 PM
I need to see what you see. Screenshot?

Hang on
Here is the link: i.stack.imgur.com/SgDCP.png
It's only viewable to the post author if they have 3k.

I think the placing is unfortunate. Supposed to be the message itself is shown to the post author.

Yeah... I think the viewable note is about the message not the list

You sure?
I mean, it says the list is only viewable to the post owner and those with 3k etc etc.

mag
@terdon unlikely
I think it's been quite some time since there was a new RO

2:21 PM
@Ollie Sure, because I have a question closed on MSE on meta.stackexchange.com/questions/251026/… :)

@JNat Cross site spammer. Treat them with care. stackexchange.com/users/18491476/xee-developers

@MetaAndrewT. yeah
Why isn't the message and list shown to you, then?
Seems like a bug.

@Ollie I'm not sure what's not functioning correctly here. CVers will show only if you have 3k and are NOT the post owner.

I'm not sure what is functioning correctly here.

because the close voters shouldn't be shown to the OP in an easy way to prevent potential bad actions...

2:25 PM
True.
But then the message is misleading.
Isn't it?

There are plenty of problems with the closure post notices...

Hi there. A brief question. I'm creating a query to list users with highest number of sites having a given badge. I made one but it is counting the total number of badges across all sites. This inflates the numbers.
my code:
select top 100 b.userid, u.displayname, count(*) as gold
from badges b
inner join users u on u.id = b.userid
where name in ('BADGE')
group by b.userid, u.displayname
order by gold desc
I feel I only need a small tweek
but can't figure ir out

@luchonacho You might want the SEDE chatroom. Rene's pretty active in there, and I don't think he'd mind being pinged. :)

Q: Why do deleted questions still show up in the anonymous feedback section?

blackgreenFor example, a post has a 9/-50 anonymous feedback, and shows up in the "overrated" section of Anonymous Post Feedback. The question is closed and deleted. The question deemed overrated was actually handled at some point, therefore that feedback was actioned and validated. What's the rationale of...

Hmm. What IS the anonymous feedback section?

I think it's in \tools\post-feedback? I retagged it 10k-tools because it rang a bell.

6:40 PM
Ah

7:21 PM
Hey, can I kindly request to move that question from meta.SO to meta.SE? meta.stackoverflow.com/q/401306/995926

@rekire that needs to be done from MSO's end by a MSO mod
but wait
why/how is that a meta question?

well I'm not sure where to ask. I already messed up the question where to ask that question lol
basically I read about that api, thought that would be an interesting feature, but it is not working at all. I'm not sure if that is by design or a wrong implementation

So rather than migrating it...
ah!
Wouldn't the right way to ask the question proper is - talking about how you're trying to use the API, and what you're (not) getting?

might be. I am not sure if I understood that correctly. Maybe I should split it up. on SU how does that feature works and when confirmed that I understood it correctly on SO to find out what I messed up

I don't think its a SU question at all
but yeah, the problem might not be scope - you need to work out the framing first
what hat am I wearing - end user or dev? What am I trying to do?
from what I'm seeing its not an end user thing (and as an alt account of an SU and MSE mod, I'd know these ;D )

7:33 PM
Well I'm a bit surprised. What topics can I ask about here (on SU)?: "If you have a question about [...] computer software"
Since I'm wearing here the end user hat: did I understand that feature correctly?
If my assumptions are correct I will grep my dev hat :-D

@rekire There is also a bit that says:
> and it is not about …

programming and software development,

@DavidPostill I would hide my dev hat on SU I would only show it to my friends on SO. sorry if that was not clear. I said before I might should split it up: the end user and dev parts

@rekire As it stands your question is neither one thing or another, and is so lacking in any details it would be closed on either site.

hm...

@rekire You haven't said what your program is supposed to do, or what is actually does, and why it doesn't do what you want. You have to assume we know nothing at all about your program.

7:51 PM
you are right so far. I read some time ago about a feature called windows timeline that is managed with the microsoft graph. I was wondering if that would make sense (some kind of UX question) if I would put my activities into that graph so that I could switch between my mobile and my desktop. that is not an exclusive idea for a special program. I just created one of those activites with that api, but I saw nothing. not via api and not on my windows timeline
since I saw nothing I went one step back asking myself if that api is for that job or not. I was even asking myself if I understood that windows timeline correctly

It was migrated from Meta SO, but shouldn't it say "migrated 1 hour ago", or at least "modified"?
