Personally, when it comes to canned comments, I prefer to leave them because they at least provide a basic reference point to the author as to why their question is being downvoted and marked off-topic.

I'm saying, I wouldn't be surprised if mods were afraid to ever step into TL again. I've heard no news of that one improving since then - except that it was moved to a different server so that it could be moderated, but I don't know what came of that move.

@JohnDvorak We lost many voices from the TL for many differing reasons (certainly not all terrified of getting "fired"). But plenty still lurk and participate there. As for improvement with the new one, it really depends on what you saw as the issue so it rather depends on who you ask on if it fixed things. It's not a permanent home though.

Anyways I still think this is fairly irrelevant to what started the conversation. The quote above was only suggesting popping into the TL as an option if one wondered if you should escalate but that "over"-escalating even when you are unsure is acceptable.
