2:29 AM
@JourneymanGeek Could you please explain the flag outcome above?
if you don't mind

Rob
@Jou email hidden in HTML: meta.stackexchange.com/a/356452/282094

2:57 AM
@SonictheK-DayHedgehog I was actually referring to a post I apparently forgot to link here
Which flag?
@Rob will do the needful
Ah
@SonictheK-DayHedgehog oh. Apparently I misunderstood.... Why is being a protected post not enough?

3:13 AM
@JourneymanGeek Because question edits, not new answers, are the issue
People keep misusing it as a sandbox for testing rollbacks

Rob
@JourneymanGeek That's a great Indian saying (euphemism).

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog ah ok
That will do for now

3:28 AM
@JourneymanGeek If you intend to do it permanently, perhaps "wiki answer" would be a better reason than "content dispute", as some time later, people may wonder "why the content dispute isn't resolved yet"

Maybe
Hence to for now 😁

@Luuklag thanks for digging in the loader for that lang-makefile hint.

@rene np. Just a quick search for makefile and it's there.
I also flagged the post for a status-completed tag

8:08 AM
@SonictheK-DayHedgehog looks like he just forgot to actually lock.

1 hour later…
9:33 AM
@Luuklag why aren't you using the "k" and "f" shortcuts?

9:49 AM
@Shadow10YearsWizard never really remembered those
well execpt the f ;)

Rob
10:11 AM
Star, to save

@Rob Because you asked so nicely

Rob
An easy way to remember, but my link above leads directly to the section containing the frequently used commands:

10:34 AM
@JNat spammer for you: stackexchange.com/users/17966353/kulmohan?tab=accounts ... had two posts on MSE already, I cleaned that profile up.

10:56 AM
Argh horrendous MS teams
Wont work on Windows, but does work on mac..

I guess ill resort to teamviewer to share screens then...

You'd expect that to be the other way around XD

On Windows the meeting URL is deemed invalid by the teams app
While it works fine on my mac

Was that URL 'sent from my iPhone' perhaps :P

10:59 AM
Hahaha no just an outlook request with a teams meeting linked in it

Hmm. strange :/

Yeah... By the looks of it has something to do with delegated inbites :/

Probably the url exceeded the MAXPATH length ....

But why would the teams app on mac deal just fine wih it then?

because a mac doesn't have a MAX_PATH ... it is based of a decent OS ...

11:07 AM
Hmmm could also be that there is a closing bracket from the outlook event inserted at the end of the URL
I'll check that after lunch
The webmail we use is poor in interpreting markup like that
There is a <click here> <url> kind of thing that gets parsed as plain text, but the last > is also highlighted in blue

Rob
No inbiting
Even if they are delegated

11:46 AM
@Luuklag use Google Meet, it's good. ;)
Though I'd also love to see Google Meat. :-D
@rene yeah generating a URL that they can't parse fits Microsoft perfectly.
One hand has no idea what the other hand is doing.

Canoe Rule #1: Don't sink your canoe.

12:03 PM
@Luuklag this was actually the problem :/
@Shadow10YearsWizard not the one setting up the meeting here...

2 hours later…
1:57 PM
Not sure what to make of these last smokey reports

2:41 PM
@Luuklag this "Emila Gray" is obvious spammer.
Flagged three that were still not deleted, two got deleted, one still stands.

They've got a bit of a history

@Spevacus sure, that's why they were blacklisted to begin with.
Pity that site has no active mods who can nuke spammers...
Wait, how come Smokey doesn't use politically correct terms? "blacklist" has been banned on SE, wasn't it?

@Shadow10YearsWizard There's a Q&A about that in the Charcoal Team. (If you happened to want to join, you can do so by going here first, then grabbing an e-mail address from Metasmoke) Tl;dr: The position is, the terminology will change when someone steps forward that is legitimately affected by the terminology.
@Shadow10YearsWizard Also, I believe SE simply changed all references to blacklist/whitelist on the website. Charcoal kind of operates outside of SE as its own org. and thus doesn't really have to follow the naming schemes they do... yet, anyway. I don't suspect that will change, but who knows?

3:05 PM
@Spevacus meh, all good. ;)
@Spevacus sure, but usually it's opposite: company follows the lead of private people who make the first step in such things. :)

In that instance, I believe they were following Github's lead, no?

\🚽

3:36 PM
@Spevacus yeah, probably
@Spevacus 🚽/

Rob
4:34 PM
It's @Ollie's fault:

4:56 PM
WTH?!
Non funny trolling attempt?

@Shadow10YearsWizard Oh, the date troll. Predictable post every dd/mm when dd=mm

It's been going on for a loooong time ...

@DavidPostill never noticed. Always nuked so fast? lol

in Root Access on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, Jun 6 at 11:42, by DavidPostill
> I have a bug on my BIOS that it said 6/6/2020 instead of 6/6/2020? As a non-American, I'm used to writing today's date as 6/6/2020 instead of 6/6/2020. How do I make it so it'll say 6/6/2020 instead of 6/6/2020?

Rob
5:07 PM
According to Einstein the month and day do swap on those days; there's nothing wrong with your computer or Stack Exchange.

5:19 PM
lol

5:33 PM
@DavidPostill oh, so the date troll usually visits only SU?

@Shadow10YearsWizard I've not noticed him anywhere else before your post above.

@DavidPostill Well, might be other date troll.... we can't know who it was, Cat nuked them.

@Shadow10YearsWizard nah, it's too similar :)

hey, does anyone know if a python related chat exist on SO? if it does, i can't seem to find it hmm
@Shadow10YearsWizard first time i ever heard of a "date troll" :D
do they just waste people time by asking question related to time that make no sense?
(pun intended)
@DavidPostill I'd say, maybe make a special message for this kind of post (maybe automated?) when they refer to question related to time that could be date troll like this one

@NordTheLoftyWizard Yep, and the accounts get deleted when we spot him on Super User

5:45 PM
@DavidPostill guess there a troll for everything

There's no point as they would never read it anyway ...

@DavidPostill yeah, i meant that mostly if there a possibility they aren't a troll but just someone who didn't thought of searching for existing post
(since I'm sure there an existing post for that specific problem)

@NordTheLoftyWizard The persistent ones usually get a nick name shared amongst the mods

@DavidPostill I see. Did anyone ever made a research/paper on internet trolls? could be interesting to read
I mean, given the most interesting one at least: domain troll, copyright troll, etc

@NordTheLoftyWizard The thing is it is not a real problem when the day and month just happen to be the same ...

5:50 PM
@DavidPostill yeah, but someone who doesn't honestly know (or is confused) might find a post where it's already mentioned and explained :D

Before my time but he probably complained every day in 2002 that the year digit and millennium digit were the wrong way around (I'm joking)

@DavidPostill wow

@NordTheLoftyWizard It's basically a variation of the same nonsense question every time, just changing the software he complains about.

@DavidPostill I see. That's the weirdest kind of troll I've seen

6:13 PM
@NordTheLoftyWizard here: chat.stackoverflow.com/rooms/6/python but do take a Salad language lesson first: sopython.com/salad You can also ask @AaronHall who is pingable in this room

@rene :O Thanks, appreciate the detailed infos!

Rob
A troll date:

@Shadow10YearsWizard Just happened to catch it.

Rob

<3
Also, they're ogres.
... just... gotta be pedantic.

6:16 PM
@Rob I didn't see that coming, and i feel i should have :D

Rob
^^ Ah, only a "troll" in Norway, and there is debate about the correctness of the explanation offered in the series: quora.com/Is-Shrek-an-ogre-or-a-troll differencebetween.net/miscellaneous/entertainment-miscellaneous/… - but ogre is more favored, and thus correct.

@Rob guess in certain countries/folklore, orgre == troll? :o

6:32 PM
same difference

Probably replying to Smokey too much, along with incorrect feedback.

Well as far as I recall you are also caucasian @Tinkeringbell

7:54 PM
Female though...
So no white male privilege for me ;)
I'm supposed to be a very underprivileged poor software engineer that needs all sorts of weird constructions to survive :P

Yeah, only white privilege, so I guess that means your less (privileged) then me ;)
@Tinkeringbell I'm one awfully underqualified hobbiest, programming for his job...

Heh. I started out as an archaeologist. Didn't touch a line of programming before I even started the coursework to learn it at 25 ;)

I tought myself during my agricultural studies. Had too much data to gather from too many locations, so programmed that in Excel VBA, there the misery started

Sounds like a nice way to get started too :)
Privileges are stupid anyways. Twitter turned them into something world wars will be started over again, instead of something you can freely share to make the world a better place.

Depending on what constitutes "programming", I started at either age 6, 8, or 13
3

7:58 PM
At none of those ages I even had access to the internet....

At that age you're supposed to play outside.

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog System.out.println("Go outside!")

I think we had when I was 13, because that's when I started secondary school and needed it for that.

At age 6 I had my first exposure, with a little toy truck that had four "routine" blocks you could position on it to make it perform specific things (move forward, turn, dump contents out, etc.). I wasn't about to count it, but considering most "learn to program for kids" tools today are just like that, I'd count it.
Later at age 6 I began programming Lego Mindstorms RCX using the graphical environment that came with it.
Age 8 is when I wrote my first text-based program, for a not-quite-toy robot that used a very proprietary programming language that had no actual use elsewhere.

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog Well then my kids start at 1 ;) They have this Lego Duplo train set that comes with these "action" blocks that make the train reverse direction, sound the horn etc.

8:02 PM
@Luuklag You're Dutch too, right? In that case: FWD: FWD: RE... naardekloot.nl
(safe for work)

Age 13 is when I wrote my first line of "real" code, in the Java language.
@Tinkeringbell Warning: machine translation of that page to English is NSFW

@Tinkeringbell hahaha
@SonictheK-DayHedgehog yeah I guessed so much. Kloot = test i cals when translate
but also a pourly pronounced version of cloud

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog I said it was safe in Dutch... don't machine translate it, it ruins the joke.

another such gem

@Luuklag Ehh, that's one of those where you can guess the standard answer is 'no' :P
But yes, it's cool :)
I'll carefully put it away for whenever needed XD

8:06 PM
@Tinkeringbell yeah thats true
there used to be so many more of these when I was a kid

I think I was a kid a tiny bit later than you then... or just used the internet wrong XD

I'm about a half year away from turning 30, so you can do the math ;)

I'm younger then... by just a few months ;) Turned 29 in August.

I grew up as a kid in the early 00s, so I'm quite a bit younger

@SonictheK-DayHedgehog Think i might be closer in age to you then

8:16 PM
Well I better implement some error handling in my VBA
Before it goes off for testing tomorrow

Wow. And I thought I had worked late staying on till 7.... good luck!

@Tinkeringbell Well I stopped at 4:30 to pick up the kids etc.

I ... always stop at 4:30. They put money in the meter for 8 hours, they get 8 hours ;)
Or more but then I'm off on Friday afternoon :D

Well all the hours I make now I can just take as holidays

That's nice too!

8:36 PM
Yeah, their really relaxed about that. Only thing they don't want me doing is making a 36 hour workweek fit into 4 days on standard basis

Ah, yeah.
That's too bad though.
Mine are pretty relaxed about when I make my 8 hours... they're also pretty crazy about the amount of after-hours meetings you're expected to attend :(

@Tinkeringbell For me that's part of the job. I regularly have evening meetings. But all on paid time ofcourse.
Has to do with the people we visit. I am an agricultural adviser by trade, so most people are busy during the day, and only have time in the evenings

@Luuklag Yeah it's... There's some benefits to working for a 'detacheerder', but the unpaid evening meeting expectations definitely aren't it.

Yeah, it's like frelancing, but without the insecurities
But then you bought your own car a while back, I'd imagine that being one of the perks from working for a "detacheerder"

Yep. I might one day switch... but I want my finances stable first: moving out, having the house for a while, knowing what my 'vaste lasten' are...
Oh, the lease car is most definitely a benefit.

8:42 PM
@Tinkeringbell Yeah moving out is definetly a priority when your 29 ;)
I moved out before I turned 18

Oh, I moved out when I started studying at university (which was before I was 18 :P)
I moved back when I finished that, and mom and dad basically kept me: It's their idea that I can save more this way when not having to pay rent ;)

@Tinkeringbell same here
@Tinkeringbell I moved in with my wife before I finished uni
Or yeah, we got our own place

Heh. Yeah, I'm thinking of staying single ;)
At least for a good while longer :D

What ever suits you ;)
Weve been together since we were 16

Woah... "klef" :P
That's a very long time :D

8:48 PM
@Tinkeringbell Yeah it is, no regrets yet ;)

Good!
Too many people get those these days :)

offtopic but, what's the best place to ask a javascript related question?
SO or somewhere else?

@user400654 alright :)

@NordTheLoftyWizard Nah that doesn't sound offtopic to me ;)

9:03 PM
@Luuklag meant that since i didn't want to derail the previous conversation :D

No problem, its not Tinks and mine private room, so you have all right to post here ;)

Waait, this wasn't a private room?!
3
Oops :P

Quick, send a DMCA takedown to remove your PII ;)

Hahaha
Too much work. I need to finish this one crocheted baby shoe and then I'm off to bed :)

@Tinkeringbell Aren't you a bit early with a babyshoe if you plan on staying single ;)

9:11 PM
I made some horrible life choices XD
Including figuring out a pattern for making baby shoes that kinda look like all-stars as a gift once... and now "everybody" wants them.

hahaha
You should start a webshop ;)

Nah. I crochet for fun. And I only take requests like these from people I care about :)
For others I just charge a ridiculous amount XD No one wants to pay 80 euros for a pair of them, which is what they would cost even with me working under minimum wage per hour.

SO you have to work faster ;)

Yeah no :P

@Luuklag did you just made a pun on what i think you did

9:15 PM
@NordTheLoftyWizard not sure what you mean. There was no pun intended there. Just a finger being to slow on releasing the shift key

oh, i thought you made a pun, nvm

🤔

10:02 PM
Well im done for today. cya all
Did you finish your baby shoe @Tinkeringbell?
