Can moderators go on a vacation?

And do they have any option to notify the community regarding their absence for couple of days? (probably in their profile)

@technastic_tc Yes! I believe mods have tools to inform other mods that they're taking a short break. Additionally, mods have a dashboard that lets them see other mods' activity, and whether they're active or inactive.

@technastic_tc Not that I'm aware of. If a mod were to take an extended leave of absence, a meta post on the matter would suffice, but even then I don't think it's necessary. The site should have other mods that're capable of filling the void.

@technastic_tc Eh, it's a moderator tool after all. Most users will never see it, and even if they did, it's not super relevant to them. As Mithical said, it's a rather niche tool, I imagine there's not a lot to it beyond "(mod) marked themselves as (away) for (x) time" and "(mod) has marked themselves as (active) at (time)" or something like that.

there's an open text reason field as well

@technastic_tc Most tools that don't disclose any personally identifiable information are visible around Meta in the form of screenshots or discussion about them. Others that showcase how mods identify and handle sock puppeteering, serial voting/vote fraud, and other such tools are pretty hush-hush. I'm sure there's at least one that non-mods have no idea exist, because purely knowing about it would kill its usefulness.

A bit less specific and more open ended now. It's an improvement, but I didn't see much wrong with it from the beginning beyond the fact that it's missing a reason for your curiosity. "Transparency" is commonly a way to handwave an explanation as to why it's relevant to you. Why do you want to know about this tool? Of all the moderator tools to ask about, for what reason does the vacation tool have your focus at the moment?

Side note, I don't want to sound like I'm coming at you/attacking you pointedly for your curiosity. I'm merely curious why you're curious. :D

Changes with this update: If you use the combined scan-shred function, it now performs them in that order instead of the reverse, saving a HUGE amount of CPU time.

The problem appeared to be on imgur's side. SE uploads were incorrectly triggering an antispam measure of theirs, which lead to a long timeout error before the image fully uploaded. I suppose imgur either added SE uploads to a whitelist to that rule, or just fixed the false-positive-tripping of that rule. I'm... not savvy at this at all, so take this with a grain of salt ;D
