hm. The problem with a fun, semi long running personal project is... once its done, there's a great big feeling of "Now what?"

Do you guys think Shog09 is going to come back here at some point? I haven't seen him around lately but I remember he was here one time a few months ago

maybe. Though one of the reasons he left was that a user was bothering him waaaaay too much.

Sep 3 at 12:23, by Paul White
As I understand it, Shog mostly left due to the lack of fun, and too much tension. I think that's more important than the pings. I might be wrong.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog well, I didn't say it was the pings.

Actually, he did come off break a while ago.
He's in this room and pingable

1:56 AM
and I totally didn't actually say it was you specifically. Its about the behaviours and fixing them, not blame assignment, right?

I've moved from chat pings to another platform where they're known to listen

Twitter?

I remember he was quite active here in July/ August, so it was afterwards that he stopped coming?
Man one time he did this thing where no one could type anything for 7 minutes and we all had to watch what he said. It was pretty cool.

nothing cool about frozen rooms lol
it means things are out of control, and we need to let folks cool off

@user1271772 There's a bot that does that in Shadow's Den

2:04 AM
ideally a chatroom that's running well shouldn't need to be frozen

@JourneymanGeek No man, he used it to explain some situation
He was like "I'm going to tell you guys what happened but I'm going to need some silence while I do it"

@user1271772 presumably cause people weren't listening lol

hahaa, okay I see
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Shadow's Den has a bot that does the 7 minute room freezes? What's the criteria for freezing? Or is it just at a certain time each day?

@user1271772 It posts messages after 1 hour of languishment, then 2 hours, then 4 hours, then 8, 16, etc.... The criteria for freezing is 14 days of no messages whatever (including bots, excluding system users like Feeds).

Freed is a "user" ?

Didn't know Feeds was a user, haha

Notice the negative user ID

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog haha, funny that the question this duplicated to didn't even have any answers!! I thought it used to say "This question already has an answer [here]" .... now they changed that to the less specific "This question was marked as an exact duplicate of an existing question" because of MaryLou ?

@user1271772 Nope, the notice changes if the dupe target has no answers. Notice how the link is prefaced with "This question is an exact duplicate of" instead of the normal one.

Well there's now an answer by Gorfinkel
Glorfinkel*

2:12 AM
Glorfindel

That negative ID is pretty cool, I checked -1, -3, -4, -5, -6, until I got bored
it's mainly a bunch of "gaming" profiles

2:38 AM
ugh morning...

GOOD MORNING!

3:02 AM
^ My first flag on the team, oh yeah

2 hours later…
5:14 AM
@JourneymanGeek Way too loud for this time of day.

5:27 AM
Oof, I'm scared to fly a drone when I'm this tired.
Especially since I have to fly it ON TOP OF ANOTHER DRONE. >.<
To anyone with aspersions to create YouTube videos or similar content, be aware: Videoshoots are hard work.

@Mithrandir its almost noon.

It's 7:30 and I woke up before 6.
...and the other people are taking a while to get out...

5:55 AM
ugh, time to do the part of my job I hate the worst
afk ;p

3 hours later…
9:20 AM
^^ All three are closed now. Start delete voting ;)

Okay, thanks!

@JourneymanGeek talking with clients?

@ShadowWizard The actual working part :P

lol
@Mithrandir you have some "Drone Group"?
@user1271772 did you reach the chicken?
@Mari-LouA Sorry, still think it's duplicate. If someone knows the answer for sure, they can add answer to the other question. — Shadow Wizard 1 min ago

@ShadowWizard the answer is: bounty doesn't affect the eligibility of entering HNQ at all

@andmyself you know that for sure? With 100% certainty? (e.g. from seeing source code)

from daily observation of HNQ, just like Glorfindel

11:03 AM
The team did mention there are "other factors" to HNQ algorithm, which aren't public.
(e.g. site weight)

I think site weight only applies to SO, SoftEng, and Workplace (re: penalized sites)
There are 2 questions actually: whether bounty increase hotness, and whether bountied questions are eligible for entering HNQ

Eligible is for certain, IMO, but not hotness.

the first one, my guess is a big no. A bountied question with 1 question, 1 answer, and no upvotes won't suddenly enter HNQ
the second one, is certainly yes. Existing HNQ sometimes got "reward existing answers" bounty and they're still there on the HNQ list
Glorfindel explained the edge case of non-HNQ bountied question after 2 days, in which the hotness score is usually already low

@andmyself ah, good point.
@Mari-LouA hey, doesn't this answer answers your question and save the need to reopen what you asked me to reopen or write a new question?

gone

11:14 AM
Kaboom goes to Mr. Findel ;)

11:32 AM
@ShadowWizard actually, on first appearance it seems it does. But if you think about it more carefully, it doesn't. Glorfindel doesn't know. There are no sources or references to support his open-ended answer.

@Mari-LouA maybe, but if someone will know for sure, the proper place to post it is in that same place.

12:02 PM
@ShadowWizard No, taking some footage for the SpaceIL contest.

@Mithrandir oh, nice!

12:22 PM
Protip: Taking cars through rivers is generally not recommended.

@Mithrandir I thought that was the noob info, not the protip? :P

@Tinkeringbell Apparently it's something my family still needs to learn. I've got it on video :D

@Mithrandir :D What went wrong?

Surprisingly little, actually. Just the car makes some funny noises now.

12:36 PM
See above what usually goes wrong when trying to cross a river with a car... ;)

...although that may have been the rest of the "road" that caused the damage, actually.

@Mithrandir hope you don't mean road 90??

No, other side of the country.

oh, good!

1:41 PM

Considering that you can't add a bounty for two days and the HNQ algorithm is heavily weighted towards questions with many answers posted shortly after the question is asked, I think that a bounty would have little impact on HNQ appearance unless the bounty caused many answers to be added to the question. Nothing in the algorithm takes a bounty into consideration, though.

@andmyself you... play it? lol
@Catija if you know that for sure (from the inside) then you can put some official seal of Glorfindel's answer. No?

@ShadowWizard lol, fortunately no. I only knew it from AVGN, where he has reviewed 2 bus games: CrazyBus and Desert Bus

oh lol

@SmokeDetector fp

@JourneymanGeek but I doubt they really notice things like bounty messages.
@forest well, politics gives tons of good stuff for them, they can't just ignore what's going on. :)

2 hours later…

2k

5:30 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ you know is has no effect... Right?

@ShadowWizard Well, I was advised to do so by the charcoal admins to show improvements for my SD decisions, to get my privileges re-enabled again. Hopefully they track that somehow :P

1 hour later…
6:34 PM
@ShadowWizard is back at 100k

7:25 PM
Does he get swag twice now?

I think they're smarter than that :P You could keep bountying rep away and collecting swag. But if they do... @ShadowWizard can I bribe you to go below and back to 100k once more and then send me that third swag packet? :P

@πάνταῥεῖ oh lol
@user1271772 correct
@Tinkeringbell if only there was any... ;-)

@rene I was told there's no swag for 100k at Meta SE at all.

What?! To Twitter!

7:29 PM
We should crowdfund something!
I think there's a truckload of chocolate they wanted to send me stuck somewhere, as no-one knows where I live :P I'll tell them to forward that :P

@Tinkeringbell I could paint a unicorn picture :3

I'll add a crochet unicorn then!

LOL
Best in form of something that enables @Shadow to pull hot things from their oven ;)

Best I can do is this

7:42 PM
gone

8:01 PM
@Tinkeringbell Looks pretty useful for me. Though the horn might be easily get a bit burned when you pull out something from the hot oven.
:)
@Tinkeringbell Do you have kids? If you have daughters, they really must adore you.

No kids ;) But boys like crocheted things too!

Like such stuff probably:

@Tinkeringbell Are they for your brothers?

But that's just stupid gender attitudes :3

@πάνταῥεῖ Actually, I made the oldest one a big pink flamingo and a hammerhead shark keychain. The youngest has had several crochet turtles and a pikachu by now ;)
I'm also tasked with potholders for the oldest now, as he's moving out soon ;)

8:31 PM
@Tinkeringbell Well, I am really amazed how creative crocheted potholders can be. You're way beyond what my mom and grandma ever did. Respect!

I have a stake in that post and I don't agree with that dupe

@rene I proposed a different target, though.

It is not an awesome question. Maybe it should be closed

Ah, I see, you answered it.
@rene Yeah, if no dupe had been proposed, I would have voted it "off-topic, doesn't appear to seek input and discussion..."
But I feel a dupe closure is overall more friendly than a normal closure. One time, I came across a question with two dupe votes and two off-topic votes, and since I could effectively choose the close reason myself I opted for dupe.

9:37 PM
@Tinkeringbell yes! To me! ;)

10:25 PM
Hi. I had a query - my "Activity" page (on my profile) shows "21 downvotes" cast ("all time"). But on the downvote tab in the "votes cast" page it shows "You have not cast any votes". Is it because the posts I downvoted were subsequently deleted?

10:38 PM
@Blue yup

user405243
Okay, thanks!

user405243
I thought users who have all the 25k+ privileges can view votes on deleted posts. Apparently that's not true for beta sites.

10:54 PM
@Blue what do you mean by view votes?
It's definitely not true for betas as the privileges on betas are all achieved by 7k, not 25k.
If you can see deleted posts, you can see the vote split, just like on undeleted posts. You can never see who cast a vote, though.

user405243
For graduated sites it is 25k; for beta sites it is 5k and not 7k (?) afaik i.e. the reputation needed to achieve all user privileges. By "view votes" I mean viewing which deleted posts I had cast upvote/downvote(s) on, on the "downvotes" tab in the "votes cast" page of my profile.

user405243
@Catija Ah. So that's never shown on the "downvotes" tab, right (Irrespective of the reputation) ?

user405243
Basically I wanted to see which posts I had downvoted which were also subsequently deleted. Guess that's not possible then

11:11 PM
@Blue I don't think that tab is a privilege, regardless of site type... I see deleted posts on mine but that could be because I have diamonds everywhere, not standard views.
I haven't quite figured out yet what is what and I never used that page previously. I don't really track my vote history.

user405243
I see. I suppose we'd have to wait for a high-rep non-mod to confirm whether they can see deleted posts on their "downvotes" tab :P.

user405243
Oh, and I like to keep a track of my voting history. It's fun to review which posts I had upvoted/downvoted say 6 months ago.

@Blue I think it's boring

user405243
@Devealte I'm probably a bit odd in that regard :)

If I go back to posts that I down-vote or up-vote then it's by accident

11:25 PM
you cant see deleted posts in the downvotes tab

Your not that odd
@Quill Unless your a mod

user405243
@Quill Thanks for the confirmation!

Let me try this trick
It involves HTML
Can I post HTML codes in chat?
Like, will it work?

probably best to try those in the sandbox chat

Ill try it in a private chat room

@andmyself Bus Driving Simulator
A really old one

@Blue As a 10k user, I can't. (cc @Catija)
@Blue You can only see close, reopen, delete, and undelete votes on deleted posts.
