afraid of ping

Oded isn't afraid. You may just notice at some point you are no longer able to chat, and your accounts have gone missing ... that's all

@SagarV oh lol it's using Gravatar.... stopped using it ages ago so it still show old picture. It was 6 years ago or so, yes my eldest daughter. :)

@SagarV huh?

Uhu?

@Sag I believe we can ping @Oded if we need to report something urgent, or just want to ask him how he's doing.... but keep it low, and don't bomb him with questions that others can answer. ;)

@ShadowWizard I can on chat.se as well.
not on chat.mse

huh, weird.

Nopes, SO mods are chat mods on chat.se as well.
But, if the room is linked with a particular site, then many of mod-only actions are not possible.
I can edit my old messages, but I can't make the room private, etc. I can freeze/unfreeze/delete, etc.

@ShadowWizard let's talk about changing the subject
Or changing the subject change

@ShadowWizard needz moar cockroaches

10:14 AM
@M.A.R. any suggestion what to do with the Shekels when the cup fills up? :D

@ShadowWizard um, empty the cup?

buy moar repz to get another cup

Mr Google is telling me Shekel is a way of measuring weight. @Sha what's a shekel?
@Inc. gee, what's wrong with you? Not everything is rep.
There's also badges

But do you get cup from badges?

@Inc. sure
One steward badge is 3 cups at least
Depends on the bargain

10:19 AM
Ha

@Inc. more than that

But no SO cups :(

@Inc. Chem has cups
Hahaha buuuuuurn

🔥

@M.A.R. in ancient times (biblical) it was a unit of weight. The modern Shekel is the Israeli currency (NiSh - New Israeli Shekel, which replaced the Shekel after a period of inflation).
In that cup - a collection of 1 Shekel coins.

@M.A.R. buh..... no other cup. :(

@ShadowWizard t-shirt sellers in Jerusalem and other tourist traps in Israel... and English sites that have a lot to do with Israel/Hebrew (though usually only on some graphics, trying to be cute).

No. We each have one and wear it during work hours.

That made me cringe a little while doing this Pluralsight survey.

@Telkitty no one == #1
@Bart meant that #1 quits Stack Overflow and he's right, @Jeff indeed quit.

@ShadowWizard That, and calling Stack Overflow a message board.

Let's hope #2 won't leave...

That dark orange is sort of close to brown, so I could potentially let that slide.

@jadarnel27 well, better than forum..... :D

@jadarnel27 I keep confusing this place with Craigslist

@ShadowWizard Is it?

@jadarnel27 yup, "forum" has social scent to it. "Message board" sounds more dry and official. ;)

Does it look like.... message board though?

12:47 PM
@Bart LOL. That reminds of this xkcd.

Dunno how message board should look like, but yeah, it can be one.
Anyway what's this "Pluralsight" you all talk about?

I've always thought of a message board and a forum being the same thing.

You work there? @jad
finger ready to flag as spam
@jadarnel27 might be, but wording is important! :D

@ShadowWizard Haha no. It's an online training resource. My employer provides a subscription as an employment benefit.

GameFAQs' Message Board looks like forum though (or alternatively, BBS aka Bulletin Board System)

12:50 PM
Oh BTW @jad did you spread the good news here already? Or only in @JSONBog's room? ;)

So I use Pluralsight quite a bit to learn about technology that I'm interested, or things that I'll need for an upcoming project, or to study for MS exams, etc.
@ShadowWizard I have not, no.

@jadarnel27 huh, nice.... what you train at in there?

Good news, mostly people that don't know me: jadarnel28 approaches. He / she shall arrive in December.

@jadarnel27 nice.... and of course he's active user on SO... lol
So you ticked that option and got a bonus? ;)

@JourneymanGeek true. I tried using it for its original purpose at first but found it's just too big. So I found its real purpose. :D

My pre-installed Windows game obsession in college was Space Cadet pinball on XP.

After we lost touch I also stopped playing, lol.
@jadarnel27 heh, think I played it too a bit.

but the best games were before that, on the DOS... Xonix... Digger.... Alleycat.

@ShadowWizard lol
I am wasting time on Coundition zero Counter Strike only
sometimes on GTA SA (Copland)

@ShadowWizard I loved DOS games too. Command Keen was my favorite, I think. Or maybe one of the older King's Quest games.

@ShadowWizard Minesweeper had a cheat code that would allow you to know where mines were placed, so you could set all the flags before even starting the game...

3:55 PM
How is that even possible?

@Jackson1442 it once was over 120K: socvr.azurewebsites.net

@Jackson1442 so... the number of items going into the queue is larger than the number of items going out of it.
So the queue grows.

@rene also known as "the good old days".

user315433
I think SO outgrew Close queue model long ago (which would be even more obvious without SOCVR patch). I'll stick to LQRQ and Edits for the foreseeable future; these are two queues that look like something gets done there.

user315433
Stuff does leave the queue by way of aging out, which I think may happen more often than exiting by review completion.

4:22 PM
Yeah, glance at Alex. Not me.

user315433
What's the % of review tasks that are completed (as opposed to aged)?

I wasn't really complaining about the queue, by the way. I was just being pithy. Or maybe trying to be funny. Probably a little of both.
@Bart I know you better, so I'm comfortable glaring at you menacingly. Alex just gets a glance.
Of course, I'd have to look up to glare at you. Which probably causes it to lose the menacing effect.

@ShadowWizard No, it's called the devs are pitching in to help out with the backlog of items in the queue from the community team.
you and your conspiracy theories

@Alex I'm not sure if invalidated includes aging but data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/698981 it looks like a third or so?

user315433
4:34 PM
@rene I was looking at the same thing, I guess the majority of invalidated close review should be aged ones. I don't see any other state that would apply to aged reviews.

@bluefeet so next sprint all the other devs will help with the backlog of the mobile apps?

@bluefeet no backlog on the devs own list?
@rene exactly

@rene Nope, not saying that at all. Since we didn't have a PM for quite a while, a lot of requests from the community team got pushed, so they are trying to clear the backlog of items.

@Alex yeah, but I recall that shog9 did have the breakdown on invalidated tasks.

@Derpy @Sag is a halved cat, so not fair play.
@bluefeet @Brian is the fastest dev I've ever seen, but still...
@jadarnel27 played only King Quest III fully... I think. CGA or EGA screen. Awesome. :D

4:39 PM
@bluefeet No worries, I'm well aware of how hard it sometimes is to juggle resources to match the ever growing backlog. Specially in mixed products settings. I understand what happens. Say Hi to the team from me. Cheers.

@Derpy nah, never used cheats for Minesweeper. Think the only old game I used cheats for was Doom.

user315433
37.59% of SO close flag/votes age away (bluefeet posted network stats on WorldBuilding Meta).

These days I consider searching for how to do things as cheating (e.g. how to solve a puzzle in a FF game) so I cheat a lot. :/

user315433
However, this includes perfectly normal and desirable aging of votes/flags after the post was reviewed and deemed ok. I didn't see any stats on review tasks that were aged unfinished.

@Alex the number of unfinished ones would be interesting to know.

user315433
4:43 PM
Meta Question, maybe? Looks like SEDE can't tell us why a review task got "invalidated" - was it because the question got OP-deleted, or closed directly from the site, or the task aged. (Then again, it's possible CMs are in about the same position regarding the data.)

user315433
I guess the number of invalidated close review regarding the posts that stayed open and non-deleted would be a good indicator.

@Alex That sounds as a good number to have. You write a question or do we poke a CM first to see if the request is viable?

4:59 PM
@ShadowWizard A true classic!

user315433
5:17 PM
@rene I think this is something we can find. With this query I got 222279 invalidated close reviews where question stays open, since 2017-01-01. Compared to total close reviews (276812, second query result), this is 80%.

user315433
80% sounds like a lot. Any bugs in the query?

user315433
It does overcount a bit by including the tasks that resulted in question closure that was later overturned by reopening; but those are small in number.

user315433
If starting with 2016-01-01, I get 584790/726631, still 80%.

user315433
My take-away is that most close votes are sporadic and fall on questions that don't really, absolutely, have to be closed for the love of all that is good. Let 'em age.

@Alex query looks fine and re-opens are indeed low in comparison.

Tried the same query on Math, since 2016-01-01: got 1575/36153, under 5%. That looks like reopens.

AU is another site with close review clogged. It has 6111/20760 = 29%

What's the "model" site with perfectly functioning close review queue?

user315433
My guess: Unix. It has 70/4923 = 1.4%. Or TeX, 44/4917 is under 1%

Got a monthly chart now, but grouping by CreationDate seems wrong for this purpose.

Yes, grouping by deletiondate is more informative.

The peak prior to that must be the massive burn attempt, I guess some tasks were deleted and recreated to fuzzy the queue?

For comparison, Math only had aged review at times, during peak homework months like April 2017.
