A: Is there hard data on close votes?

bluefeetI spent a bit of time digging into this. I looked at the past 365 of questions posted on the site to get the numbers. Here is what I found: Over the past 365 days, there were 6,534 questions asked, of these: 3,313 have received at least one close vote or flag, 2,135 questions were closed, 1,5...

It is incredible the number of ways posts can get deleted and how ineffective the actual delete link is.

Well... It's super-effective for post authors

Should said "delete vote". ;-)

Hello
I have a question that bugged me for a while
Why do we prevent users from asking too broad questions anyway?
Sorry its "answering" not asking.
If a good answerer has an easy way to deal with a broad question why not let him?

12:44 AM
@PrittBalagopal because we also want to discourage people from asking overbroad questions and an answer is positive reinforcement
Much better we help them understand what a well scoped question is first

@JonEricson Which it is for post authors, too. It even consumes one of their delete votes if they have any.

Mathematics Educators is categorized as Science, while Computer Science Educators as Professional. Further confirming that anything with "science" in the name isn't.

@Guero nah, CSE is Professional Science, but SE discourages repeated thing, so the "Science" is omitted

@Shog9 I like the way you Rant! :D
(good song title ;))
Well, admit I expected a bit shorter response, but then again, I can rarely expect your (re)actions... which guess is a good thing, otherwise it would be too boring. ;)
From the little I read (don't have more than 5 minutes here and there during day, both at work and home (at work I have to, well, work, and at home have to be with wife/kids, watch over kids etc, so using those small gaps we have during those things) so only time I can really read things is during night) I understand your point of view and admire you for surviving so long in such a job. Kudos! :)

SO users that make their CV/Dev Story public are the product that can be sold, the rest are more like a by-product, industrial sludge of some sort.

Does Jon Skeet make his CV/Dev Story public?

user315433
Okay, some are more like equipment.

user202362
tools you mean

Q: Why do so many good programmers waste their time on Stack Overflow?

Josh PoorI get depressed when I see so many good programmers answering other's easily googlable answers, and writing code for them. I mean, why do you guys do that? How do good programmers have this much time? You must be having a job? Or not? Is it hard to get a job for programmers? Instead of answerin...

user315433
Not limited to programmers, of course.

user202362
Josh Poor - that name, rofl

3:45 PM
who do people share stuff on facebook?

user202362
you don't need to press things, because if you do, everything falls apart

user202362
trust me on this: a lot of 'valuable' things are built on piles of sand, on the other side, we have the lifespan of a mayfly, so as long as the sand pile doesn't collapse in our ephemeral lives, it should be fine

5:50 PM
So, we have @Walt @Disney now. Who is up for @Donald @Duck?
