Just realized MetaSmoke has an announcement. Interesting about 4chan vs Mi Yodeya, but the thread on 4chan only attracted 3 replies since June 13 and has been closed.
wondering if there's really a troll-attack there

Spending your free time in the [c] and [c++] tag is like taking vacation in Syria. You have to participate in the jihad and shall pick a side. Taking a break on the breezy [c#] coast is not a bad idea, it has a lot less religion. — Hans Passant 9 hours ago

Hi
I have a suggestion, but I'm afraid of downvotes

Well all we can do is set smokey on you here, so what is your suggestion
boo

@PrittBalagopal you can try search it on MSE/MSO first, or well... just share your idea here

@Elephant thanks for the suggestion, and sorry for late reply, had to visit the market to get vegetables.
I was thinking
since voting is different on meta
shouldn't that be made clear on the hover message over the downvote button
if you hover over the downvote button, you'll see "This question does not show research effort; its unclear or not useful"
On meta shouldnt it be changed to "This question does not show research effort; its unclear or not useful or if you disagree"
?

Q: Change upvote/downvote tooltip on meta sites

TshepangSince voting on meta sites mean something different on the main sites, can you change the tooltip as well: This question is useful and clear --> I agree This question is unclear or not useful --> I disagree This answer is useful --> I agree This answer is not useful --> I disagree ...or somet...

the request is there already ;)
but declined

Bummer
Why in the world was it declined?
Now they pound newcomers into visiting the FAQ so they can learn that voting is different on meta.

Because Jeff (the owner of Stack Exchange, but already left) said so.
Well, ideally, users should have read [tour] and some of help centers before they participate in a site.

Ideally

Blender graduated two years ago today. One of their most viewed post-graduation questions is Group objects in blender [duplicate]. It was marked as a duplicate within a few hours after creation... but still gets views, 30K by now. Unusual.

speaking of duplicate...
nvm... I was going to ask Jason about his More Share Links (Markdown / HTML / BBCode) since it uses the post title (including [duplicate] or [closed]) for the markdown.
Not sure whether to remove it or not, but in the end, it's trivial for the user to just delete the status before posting

@Guero ... first thing I thought was "Probably Ctrl+G" ... and that's the answer. People don't try things, do they?

Well, on Chrome: Ctrl+T to open a new tab, but who would think Ctrl+W to close a tab?
Probably "T" for "Tab", and "W" for "Whoosh!" ?

Me.

gulp

It's the W of Close of course. The W is silent. Everybody knows that.

Featured feature requests are rare.

Yes
It is too bad there is not enough data yet for the other sites with the topbar. It must be a real pain then that Shog didn't wait for that.
I expect this change to go live on monday, if it really is a problem.

don't forget to play a sound too

Good point

@Elephant the magic happens with ctrl+shift+t

6:42 PM
@Shog9 - If review traffic dropped due to users not knowing where to find it, does that mean that review quality increased as the users who were using it knew what they were doing?

Not that I've seen

I saw 4 downvotes, probably from UI designers :)

heh, I think this post has a typo

Q: Validating a assword using JavaScript

Ahmed HassanI'm trying to make a password validation in JS to accept 8-15 digits with at least 1 lower case with this function below, however, it always returns True! function validatepassword(){ var pass= document.getElementById("pass1").value; var tester= /^(?=.*[\d])(?=.*[0-9])(?=.*[a-z])[\w]]{8,15}$/; i...

Wow, someone edited the code to make it indent, but didn't fix the title =/

uh...Is "assword" a typo or intended? — Jonathan Dumaine Jan 27 '14 at 22:59

user315433
It is intended: It matches Password and password. — michas Jan 28 '14 at 0:00

lol

Hence, 601 matches for assword: stackoverflow.com/search?q=assword

Did I missed the hour of happiness?

@HenryWHHackv2.0 nope, not yet
you're early

It looks like we will be talking about asswords and other obscenities so it should be good...

I hope I get a chance to meet RC ♦.

Oh right thank you.

imgur is at capacity again ...

How can it be at capacity?

Maybe they are at the free-plan with their hosting provider?

I've never encountered them being at capacity.
Perhaps, if that really is the case, it is the result of them starting to support gifv.
I was able to upload a picture

ah ha, I was able to reproduce that
Hm.
I wonder if they are being DDoS'd

I'm not sure if I need to be happy if you can repro

Last time it's AWS problem, but after that... no news from them

I was kind of hoping it was something you did :P
Serving 250 bytes should not cause the system to run out of resources. That means they are running out of connection threads imo

Well, last time I checked when I got 503, their status page was all green with "no incidents reported today"

8:51 PM
Yeah, most companies have a cool page like that setup and then forget they actually have to write logic to make it functional ... 99% of those kind of pages went from initial concept direct to production.

heh, status page is static html that says everything is working fine... if it doesn't load then the status is "broken".

What could be a good option is alerting on spikes on your status page visits. When that happens probably something is broken on main.

If I'm using the Apple Watch, can you make it save in sync with my heartbeat? — Catija 5 mins ago

Yes, that is possible.
setTimeout(function(){save();},1000);

Ugh, that reminds me how inferior the draft feature on SE Android app.

next question?
:P
j/k obviously, heart rate reaches like 180 at extremes which would be more like 333 ms.

When your heart rate is 180, probably you shouldn't write a question... but maybe Health can help.

@TravisJ writes bug report: draft saving missed a beat

9:27 PM
draft stopped working... uh oh.

#rimshot
(should have been Interval instead of Timeout above... oops, damn you Friday! I can't stay mad at you Friday!)

setInterval drifts

Just like your heartbeat ;)
There is really no way to prevent the OS from stealing processing from background tabs.

"stealing"?

Re-purposing

I mean, generally-speaking, an interactive system should be giving a big ol' priority bump to whatever is currently being interacted with

Agree

(also... This tends to fall into @JasonC's favorite category of "things that have a ton of unexpected complexity because assholes abused the heck out of it when they didn't")
Remember when browsing the web would randomly lock up your browser & drain your battery 'cause some background tab was running a stupid animation at 100% CPU?

Just like people who want to run a timeout that is only 1ms... you would think they would consider how harsh that would be on the computer.
speaking of unexpected complexity... here is a link to trumps financial disclosure that just got released: oge.app.box.com/s/kz4qvbdsbcfrzq16msuo4zmth6rerh1c

Income amount 100,001 - 1,000,000 I think I would notice if I earned 100K or a lot more...

Maybe they just lost track of everything once beer became something that didn't need to be included in the budget.

I'll take that as an answer

@TravisJ I don't know. I expect that would be extremely complex.

Perhaps it was worded poorly, I meant that the release was unexpected, and with it came a lot of complexity.
I read through the whole thing, nothing really stood out to me as that off. He just has hotels in a lot of cities, and branding to support them. That was like 90% of it. The other 10% was essentially what looked like a custom mutual fund approach of diversification in the stock market.
