Mind if I take this idea to charcoal?

you can do whatever you want with it. Including nothing, if it doesn't sound interesting.
But, you asked, and that's been a thing on my list, so...

Seems like it wouldn't be the first time you've outsourced FRs? You said something about incorporating that script for Judaism's keyboard... Seems like you could do that with other things - though I suppose it takes the right project.

kinda, yeah

Kasra seemed to like that top bar userscript that allowed people to rearrange things.

@Shog9 Wait, it's possible to stop lying to yourself about that?

12:08 AM
not particularly pleasant, but... yes

I wish to subscribe to your newsletter
But yeah, urgh

it's printed on carbon paper and comes with a bag of mushrooms

What kind?
Also, are you sure you wouldn't prefer mimeograph paper?

Cylostat's where its at.
(I kinda miss the paper they used to use, had a nice heft to it)

I liked the purple mimeo ink.

@Catija hi :D

Is it still happy hour?

user310756
don't think so

user310756
I've never made it to one, they're too early in the morning for me :)

I am usually stuck in rush hour traffic during "happy hour"
Often I receive the reminder that its happy hour, attempt to wrap up my work for the weekend and use some version of //REMEMBER THIS CRUCIAL FACT ON MONDAY somewhere, and hastily try to make sure that my list of facts to remember is as small as possible.
Like the fact that iOS browsers don't seem to properly honor the delay for setTimeout...
That was the gem I found today.

6:20 AM
@YvetteColomb Trust me, you don't miss much. Half the time there's no one here.
:P

user202362
@YvetteColomb :D

user310756
@Catija they're usually on a Sat morning here?

AFAIK, Happy Hour was (also) supposed to be the time to spend downvotes on soon-to-be eligible roomba'd questions...

its friday night for me still (10:30pm)

user310756
yeh it's SAt 5.30pm here

@MarkC It's nothing. Chacha just decided to test out the event functionality one day, and he decided on Happy Hour because it's a tavern.

Happy hour and downvote all teh things don't exactly sound synonymous to me.

see in a positive light: less crap! ;p

@TravisJ I'm from the future, what do you want to know?

@YvetteColomb I don't know what 5 pm here converts over there.

6:35 AM
@Catija 1735 now - so what's your time?

6:36 AM
^ That should give you your local time for the event, I think?

@TravisJ No one. Cricket becomes the primary sport in the American Dominion.

user310756
yep 10 am on a SAt

user310756
I am usually asleep - Ironically I was listening to lectures today, but I finally unsubscrib ed for the event

@JourneymanGeek So you're saying we will be taken over by Canada?

ah, this.

@Catija maybe the spammers are trying to hit weekly quotas ;p

So... A while back (March) I flagged a bunch of comments on SO by someone who was repeatedly telling users "accept my answer"... They're still answering question on SO but they don't have any comments on their profile since April... seems odd?

6:58 AM
maybe the warning(s) worked?

Are you stalking them?

Would they have gotten a warning? The flags were pretty much automatically handled because of the keywords.

I think that is one of those "bigger fish in the sea" type of problems.

@TravisJ Nah. I followed something on Charcoal to SO and flagged it and then wanted to see what my flagging history on SO looked like.

I was mostly kidding

7:00 AM
That's sort of why they're automatically handled... no moderators need to be involved.
I can't usually tell when people are teasing me.

maybe he noticed his comments were being chomped?

Sorry, I blame the interwebs
I think the larger problem at Stack Overflow is users telling others not to answer.

@JourneymanGeek Oh, one of my flags was a custom flag... maybe they did mod message him.
@TravisJ I don't... I can't usually tell even in real life.

Well I tried to make a ridiculously looking expression to convey that it was mostly a joke but apparently you didn't see it.

@TravisJ If you look at my SO rep, I think you'll see that I don't really use SO... :P But "accept my answer" comments are easy to flag because they're a problem network-wide.

7:03 AM
lol yeah, I looked, which is why I noted that there are bigger fish in the sea above, as in, that isn't really as much of a problem, and then kinda went on to state the a larger problem is answerers being discouraged (since we have an answerer problem at SO right now)

@TravisJ Example?

If all you are interested in are easy flags, "what have you tried" site:stackoverflow.com -site:meta.stackoverflow.com -site:chat.stackoverflow.com is an easy google search

Is asking someone what effort they've put in already not acceptable?
I would think that would be valuable information?

I prefer "tanks in advantage"

tanks in advancing as well :D

7:08 AM
Oooh... How obscenely long is the suggested edit queue... maybe I could get 1101 rep by suggesting edits.
I didn't even think about that. I'm pretty much never going to earn rep any other way on SO.

there are 78 pending suggested edits on SO
(probably I should review them)

@Catija Well, the thing is, some users will just pepper everything with "what have you tried" which is kind of counter productive. If the comment contains more, such as explicitly what of what was tried would be relevant and make the question answerable then don't flag it. I think shog said it well, "If you don't have the time or inclination to engage in conversation with the author of a post, don't comment - just vote."

yes. you probably should.

I tried earning rep at Stack Overflow once, it went okay.

@TravisJ on the other hand, there's a lot of gimme the codez questions
you need to decide whether 1) just close it

7:10 AM
@JourneymanGeek Are those worth engaging with at all, though?

2) try to engage them

@JourneymanGeek OMG I know! lol However, sometimes you kinda end up giving it. It just depends on what is involved in the gimme section.

@Catija hence just dealing with it being the first option ;p
but thats sooooo hard

@TravisJ I've used like four questions in my grand "learn what this coding thing is"... all quite adequately answered.

sometimes they are ok, not too "meh". Also, assume they're not dupes.

7:15 AM
Whatever I do will be for another day. I'm guessing I'll be awoken in about 5-6 hours so I should probably get to sleeping.

Yes, that is definitely not enough sleep, you need 7 hours at minimum

I used to be able to sleep until 11 on weekends.

Catch-up sleep does not count.

Heh... yeah... "catch-up sleep". That's funny.

ooh, I got the final vote in that one! hah ha
boom

7:30 AM
@TravisJ and I hit it with a delete vote

The graphic design one? It got nuked when my spam flag was the 6th one I think.

oh the MSE one I just linked ;p

Nice, yeah, you got the final del vote there
questions are dropping like flies!

> 32℃ (feels like 38℃)
no wonder I sweat a bucket

7:37 AM
13 F in Santa Barbara? That seems... a bit cold?

I clicked ℃ for Andrew but apparently it doesn't show clearly enough

Oh, I think I can see that the F is blue?

Yeah, F is blue because it is a link (to swap), whereas C is black because it is plain text (current). I, ugh, I didn't design that sorry. I probably would have gone a different route there

blame Google :p

Nah... clearly it's all your fault ;)

7:40 AM
see?

lol

Well, the person who did design it probably uses the site... we just need to track down which user it is.

I would have probably given the selected option a little bit of 3d shadow
Here is a mockup of it

That's a "little"?

It was copy paste from something with a dark background, the extra shade shouldn't be as visible but I didn't feel like removing it :D

And you are making a living in Information Technology, right? The industry that hogs thousands of devices every second with bloatware, making millions of white collar workers feel miserable about their job on a daily basis and have the companies they work for pay immense fees to developers and consultants to find the bugs they put in the crap deliberately. And it is always promised to be solved with the next (paid) upgrade, if not within 6 to 8 weeks. What a scam that is.... — rene 45 mins ago

user202362
10:03 AM
I like @rene's optimism >_<

Kind of makes it seem like developers are intentionally creating bugs for personal profit... Was it satire? It doesn't really read as if it were.

Hello @rene Gm :)

some devs are actually doing that

@YvetteColomb it depends I think but it wasn't meant to be biting ...

We had a software that came with a 1 year support aggreement. At 11 months and 3 weeks, they pushed an update that completly broke our configuration, and the follow up hotfix was only available to premium subscribers of their support plan

10:05 AM
@Magisch - Some kind of implies a decent percent. I am willing to believe that you could find that happening, but not as widespread.

user202362
I bought yet another tent (7th or 8th) so I can live in the bush without any electronic devices </day_dreaming>

And as I'm making my money in the IT industry I think I'm entitled to ridicule it a bit as I'm part of that same system.

@rene - To note, you didn't really mention that IT was introducing the bugs...

lol Travis , Magisch yup some devs but mostly bugs already in code of 80% devs (@_@)

@TravisJ well, in my defense I'm a dev not a poet ...

10:08 AM
Well my code is freaking art, so I guess maybe I am defensive about someone suggesting it has intentional bugs.

:D rene

When I hear IT, I think of the people that make sure servers are properly configured to load balance, backup databases, host DNS, provide certs, etc.

@TravisJ oh, there are sure great artists out there but I can't help to end-up in a circus act now and then.

lol fair enough

@TravisJ Oh, how would I describe the whole lot?

10:11 AM
That was just my interpretation of the "IT" community.
Some of whom I literally could not do without.

user202362
It Girl was originally slang for a beautiful, stylish young woman who possessed sex appeal without flaunting her sexuality, when the phrase originated in British upper-class society around the turn of the 20th century. The expression reached global attention in 1927, with the popularity of the Paramount Studios film It, starring Clara Bow. == Early use == An early literary usage of ‘it’ in this sense may be traced to a 1904 short story by Rudyard Kipling: It isn’t beauty, so to speak, nor good talk necessarily. It’s just ‘It’. Elinor Glyn, the notorious British novelist who wrote the book titled...

I am an IT girl too, but different kind of IT

@YvetteColomb Oh, that one

and it's the best way to be close to wildlife

user202362
@TravisJ I know what glamping is :p

I don't mind being close to wildlife, so long as there is a nice tempurpedic mattress and some A/C to retire to :)
Our local zoo is having this trip to the Galapagos Islands in a year, looks pretty awesome. Definitely a lot of unique wildlife there.

user202362
now I am jealous

user202362
once I went hiking with a small group, we were surrounded by kangaroos at night

user202362
the other time, possum went inside my tent's outer layer and ransacked through my food - I was waken up by the sound

10:28 AM
One of my motion detectors showed a possum in our back yard a month ago. Looked small, 7 lbs. Apparently they like cat food.
Were the kangaroos mean? Is it bad to say that Kangaroo meat is some of the best meat you can get? That was definitely a highlight of my AUS visit.

user202362
@TravisJ where did you visit in Australia?

user202362

user202362

Sydney, Cairns, Port Douglas, Great Barrier Reef, crocodile encounter, tropical zoo

user202362
east coast in other words :p

10:39 AM
yeah
I was paid to go to Aus to work, but tragically the guy who owned the company I was working with - his father passed away while I was there - so I ended up just being a tourist the whole time.
Kangaroos seem pretty mellow, at the zoo I went to they were just hanging out near the path and you could feed them.
Except that one that got punched by that guy, hilarious but still kinda unfortunate.

user202362
once I went to stay on a farm with a few friends, there were more kangaroos than sheep on the farm & I got chased by a donkey (after feeding it a few biscuits)

Sounds eventful, not sure I would want to be chased by a donkey.

user202362
it was inside a fence

So there was a fence between you and the donkey?

user202362
Fed it across the fence, but as I started walking back, it followed me. I started running, it started running in the same direction too

user202362
10:46 AM
@TravisJ yes

Aww, you made a friend
Food is a great motivator, when I feed my cat he follows me around meowing and rubbing on my shin instead of eating.

There are some who just troll around, posting nonsense anywhere they go just for fun. This is one of them.

hi
Whats this room for
yo
anyone out there

It's the general chat room for Meta Stack Exchange in a sense. No real explicit purpose

thks
why is everyone so anti please and thank you on this website? I don't see what is wrong with having manners.

You're talking about the content of posts?

yeah

We're not against politeness or manners. We're just pro concise content. Anything that distracts from that gets removed. It's a policy that has developed over the years and which we tend to adhere to

7:10 PM
I don't get how saying thank you distracts people

It's the same reason that "signatures" aren't allowed in posts.
What does saying "Thank you in advance" add to a post?

It's unnecessary fluff. It's not part of the actual question or answer. We assume you're thankful and polite. So we leave it out, or edit it out when we see it

It adds manners and politeness and in my opinon shows I have a bit of decency

In general conversation, absolutely. But that's not the purpose of these sites
They are all about questions and answers.

@Bart I'm against politeness and manners. Speak for yourself, will you.

7:11 PM
As Bart says, by allowing it in some, it makes people who don't include it look rude. Instead, everyone is on an equal plane.

I am against you in general @rene. But hey, nothing I can do about that :p

that is true, I'm a given ...

oh @rene I thought you would show up here.

@rene is part of the furniture in this room

I do not show up here, I live here.

7:13 PM
He's one of the room owners even. Worst decision ever

Are you sure it wasn't just one of those system failovers where there were no room owners and the most active user got made one by default?

Nope ...

@JasonC had a weak moment ...

What were the staff thinking ;)
Oh, not even staff. Never mind then. I figured they must be blameless.

7:15 PM
@Catija I don't think staffers are RO here ... not that it changes anything ...

@rene Blues are rarely ROs.
It's unnecessary.

On the the Python Room Jon and Martijn still are RO, but that is from their history.

And we don't even get to be blue & italics, just blue

Yeah. :(
I WANT MORE TEXT DECORATION!!!
I should add that userscript that makes my name appear green.

<marquee> for everyone!

7:18 PM
@Bart what does that do?

^
Oooh, if you search "marquee html" on google, the result count scrolls :D

HA HA HA

hahaha, it also works for "blink html"
Someone had too much time on their hands

Blink is more likely to cause medical problems with people prone to epileptic problems?

7:21 PM
I'd guess the interval is too long to matter

True. But some of those old geocities/angelfire sites were pretty heavy on the strobing images/backgrounds.

Google has too much free time ;)
