Hmm, are questions like stackoverflow.com/questions/11528267/… off-topic? On one hand, they are asking for an off-site resource; on the other hand, there's only one canonical source...

user315433
One source, but 8 answers?

@zaq 4/8 answers point to the same source. And I did say one canonical source, not one source.

user315433
Okay, so the question is: are the non-canonical sources non-answers to be deleted, or are they part of the game (in which case the uniqueness of canonical source isn't the point)

What do you mean by "part of the game"?

user315433
2:37 AM
If they are acceptable answers.

Oh. I mean, they are answers to the question... or at least some are...

user315433
Okay, if answerers are free to supply links to various places on the internet, then this isn't really different from other off-site resource requests.

Well, yeah. I was thinking more along the lines of "is it canonical enough to not really be a tool rec?" I suppose not.

@bjb568 I don't know if I ever mentioned this, but we do AP Calc AB and BC over two years. From what I've heard, literally nobody else does it. Perhaps trying to cover for the fact we don't offer any courses beyond BC. (If we went to a community college and took multivariable, for example, the high school would have to pay for it)

ELL's Language Overflow room has about twice as many messages as the main room, ELL's Cabin. What does "main chatroom" mean in such situations?

The most extreme example is probably MathOverflow, where the main room has 3K messages while "Homotopy Theory" room has 85.5K.

H&I is increasing at a very constant rate. Related to the Triage changes or what?

user315433
Honestly... Don't worry about H&I, @Braiam. We're essentially assigning people bits of garbage and asking them to look for gold, after we've already sifted out the obvious gold... And meanwhile a bunch of people with metal detectors are picking through the pile systematically. A really good editor can have a big effect, but a really good editor can have a big effect anywhere; this is a last-chance for stuff nobody wants, not a guaranteed redemption. — Shog9 ♦ 2 days ago

8:26 PM
@John right... mostly. You won't lose a badge after you've earned it, but you also won't get that badge again the next time you would have earned it. For example, if you get your fifth Nice Answer, and then the answer's score drops below ten, and then you get another answer up to a score of ten, the system will look and see "five answers with score of ten, five Nice Answer badges awarded, everything matches up, no need to award a new one." — Pops ♦ Aug 15 at 21:25

user315433
I don't think this is how it works now.

user315433
My impression is that there would be a 6th badge in this scenario. After all, each Nice Answer badge is linked to a post, they are not issued just by count.

You're probably correct. That is also how I understand it works

user315433
For example, Jon Skeet has 6773 Nice Answer badges right now, but "merely" 6600 answers that qualify for this badge.

user315433
It's not easy to find the no-longer-qualifying answers for which he got the badge because SE do not Add Post Id to Badges table when applicable.

8:42 PM
@zaq But couldn't that just be due to deleted answers/questions?

user315433
That is a factor, but I think I experimented with downvote and found Nice Answer is still preserved.

user315433
9:08 PM
Okay, an experiment. I downvoted one of Jon's score=10 answers (found one that I didn't feel bad downvoting), we'll see what happens with badges.

I expect him to have 10 more ...

user315433
In compensation, upvoted one of his score=9 answers... waiting for the script to run.

user315433
Didn't take long, here is his 6774th badge: stackoverflow.com/help/badges/23/nice-answer?userid=22656

user315433
That's despite the fact that an answer listed on page 5 (to "Are really great programmers known to use unit testing?") currently has score 9, so doesn't qualify for the badge. It's still there and the new badge arrived.

Yeah, it works as we thought it would and this proves it

Well, plus one if you want to include Kindergarten.
God, I'm old.

user315433
Yes, I meant secondary + primary.

I still remember that car ride going to Kindergarten on the first day.
I'd wanted to go to Kindergarten a year earlier and I was disappointed to hear that I wouldn't be, unlike some of my preschoolmates which made the age cutoff. Still, in that car ride, I turned over all the nuggets of knowledge I'd received from Pre-K. let's see… cat is spelled see ayy tee, I thot, not having learned to sound out words. see ayy tee? … What if I don't know something somebody else in my class does know? I'll have to learn a lot this year
I was in the PM Kindergarten class, so I went to a building near the front of my Elementary school for some unstructured time before going to actual Kindergarten. I didn't know the people there. I didn't know what to do there. They'd already showed up, some of them as early as 7:30, what was an hour before.
In this little temporary building, in the first week I learned that Wednesday is spelled wehd nehs day, but I couldn't remember the individual words. I couldn't sound out words yet. When I read, I'd just look at the familiar shapes of words.
Over the next year of Kindergarten I'd learn to read and write better, I'd grow exasperated at how we had to keep writing the same 26 letters over and over again since some kids kept flipping them (by then I totally knew my chirality and could even tell which hand was which!), I'd learn to hate the really fat pencils that traded off ergonomics for ease of gripping by tiny, untrained hands, and I witnessed the separation of those who knew things and those who did not.

user315433
It sounds like you've been working on the personal statement for college applications... though they usually don't go that far back.

From pretty early in my Kindergarten experience, I was exposed to the concept of kids being "held back" or getting scores worse than mine on the horribly easy tests that we took. I still remember during the first week of Kindergarten when we were asked to write something about Kindergarten using the word itself that essentially nobody knew how to spell. They were expected to figure it out, which most of us did by looking on the wall where in big bright letters the word Kindergarten was stapled.
The teachers told us to not tell our peers of this discovery.
@zaq Meh, I'm just reminiscing since I said I'm old. :)

11:06 PM

'Cause I ain't quite normal, eh
This for example
Probably one of the most useful that I've written, but unfortunately it is getting people rate limited
I'm using all publicly available AJAX routes, so the rate limiting information should be available somewhere, if not publicly
I would just like to be able to talk to someone who knows that those limits are, so I can operate within them
