@Cupcake the people seem to be saying it's falling out of fasion
Is there any difference between the words prototypal and prototypical?

@bjb568 prototypal: Of the nature of, or constituting, a prototype; of or pertaining to a prototype; archetypal. prototypical: Of the nature of or serving as a prototype; prototypal.

@tchrist That was certainly useful
> ; prototypal.

My pleasure.

user163250
@bjb568 again, what people? Who?

user163250

I may take a few potshots at Java here and there, but at the end of the day, it's got one very significant advantage over C#...it's open source, and free.

user163250
Most of its eco-system is.

user163250
C#, I gotta pay for developer licenses to use the good stuff...

user163250
Visual Studio Dev edition, SQL Server...

user163250
They all cost $$$.

user163250
Sure, there are free Express editions, but they're often unsuitable for certain applications because of their limitations.

user163250
4:14 PM
For example, SQL Server Express can only use a database less than 10 GB.

user163250
Like, I can't even import the data dump for Stack Overflow into that (28 GB, not including Tags).

Sam
@Cupcake Huh? Last I heard, .NET's being (slowly) made open source on GH.

user163250
@Sam slowly, true, but its dev ecosystem still requires you to fork over $$$ to our Microsoft overlords.

@Cupcake Yeah I acquired a dev license just the other day

Sam
4:16 PM
@Cupcake Fair point.

At least I only have to pay once

user163250
Never had to pay a cent for Eclipse :P

Unlike Apple where you're basically forced to have a steady income if you want to have any sort of presence on the App Store
Yeah but look at all the top-quality Android apps out there

user163250
I've never done Android development before...do people use Eclipse for that? Or that Xcode thingie?

@Cupcake Eclipse or Android Studio (based on IntelliJ)
Xcode is for Apple stuff

user163250

user163250
Just guessing.

@Cupcake F♯ minor.

Wow, LOB software written in F♯? That's news

user163250
I'm kinda disappointed F# isn't more of a thing. I had fun doing functional programming with Haskell back in college.

Probably because most people/companies still see it as a gimmick

4:28 PM
All you have now is F♯ diminished.

user163250
I've heard that some financial quant wizards use F# for their voodoo mumbo jumbo.

[ SmokeDetector ] Bad keyword in answer: Gold annotations for diabetic patients in MIMIC-III by Sharukh Lokhandwala on opendata.stackexchange.com

@Mooseman, As a freshman here at Stack Exchange, can you comment on what you mean with nuking the revision, and why you want to do that on this answer?
@Mooseman, isn't it enough just to rollback the change to get the original image?

@holroy The issue is that the original image contains content the OP does not wish to be online.

@holroy Revision destruction is usually for PII clearing

"PII clearing"?

5:14 PM
personally identifiable information

And why is it not enough to just rollback the revision, and then let that offending revision be removed afterwards? Or is there some intrinsic in how to delete revision that requires the answer to be removed temporarily? (Just curious on the procedure. Has no problem accepting that the revision is not wanted

@holroy Rolling back simply generates a new revision, it does not erase any existing revisions
rev A -> rev B -> rollback to A generates new revision C with contents of A
Rev B survives and is visible in the revision history

That I get, but can't then 'PII' revision be removed afterwards? Or is it customary to delete to hide it before it is removed?

@holroy Hiding an answer prevents its history from being viewed by anyone except 10k rep users, moderators and employees (the latter of whom can then hard-delete the revision)
So pretty much customary

ok. If I were to find such an answer, what is the procedure? Should I contact the 'local site' moderator, flag it for moderator attention, or is there some other place to report it?

5:20 PM
Custom-flag it

@holroy You can flag it for moderator attention; we now have the ability to forward such requests directly to the staff
and will delete the post in the meantime if necessary

HeHe... that was my next question if moderators could forward that onward to the employees

Yeah, there's a decently efficient system for that kind of thing now.

Thanks for all the good information, guys! :-)

nothing to do with my unicorn mind-reading ability nope

5:23 PM
It has however taken some time for the revision to be deleted, but I guess the employees has quite a lot to deal with considering the high amount of traffic on the SE sites
@BoltClock'saUnicorn Good one...
