I think I probably should've used my last 1 or 2 delete votes before midnight UTC. Oh well.

@Jamal Done

user163250
@VotetoClose so confused.

user163250
By the way...

12:14 AM
DV it too.

user163250
Take your pick.

user163250
Too broad, opinion, recommendation.

@Cupcake An answer just went poof.

why on earth does this not have positive score? meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/266077/…

12:22 AM
Looks good to me. +1

user163250
@bjb568 complete f**king waste of time, that was. Waste of reviewer votes too.

user163250
@VotetoClose who are you asking?

you
it's deleted answer? i can't see those

user163250
12:24 AM
The whole question is bad.

user163250
I voted to delete before I realized that I should've just looked at the question first.

user163250
@VotetoClose wait, can you see the answer in the review?

user163250
Or does it still show up as deleted?

no, it doesn't show up in review either answer not found

user163250
Gimme a sec...

@Cupcake Found a robo.

oh i see, thanks

user163250
@bjb568 are you referring to me? Vote to Close? :P

user163250
@bjb568 that was the right call.

user163250
12:29 AM
She's the only person on that list who got it right.

user163250
It's a perfectly valid answer to a crappy question.

@bjb568 that's creepy how you clicked on mine and cupcake's links... (o)(o) - these are eyes of course

user163250
opinon-based or recommendation stackoverflow.com/questions/7642/…

@Cupcake No, it wasn't. Nobody looks at the question. Saying it looks ok means you're paying even less attention. Looking at review history, it is a robo.
@VotetoClose What are the (o)(o) supposed to represent? - O'RLY?

user163250
@bjb568 look, assuming that she is a robo (I haven't checked), she still took the right action on that answer.

user163250
12:32 AM
Anyone who just blindly flags without looking at the question is a robo.

user163250
Answers have context.

@Cupcake I don't see how it's the right answer to "looks ok"... ? It's not an answer.

Meh, "Recommend Deletion to recommend that this answer be deleted". If you want the question to be deleted, you want the answers to be deleted too.
@VotetoClose Agreed. Looks ok doesn't help the system.

user163250
@VotetoClose It was a recommendation question. How is a link not a valid answer to such a question?

It's not a valid answer to any question, it's NAA.

12:34 AM
@Cupcake well, s/he didn't ask for a link or resource specifically... s/he didn't say "Can you provide me a link to where I can learn about"

The only validity I see for that answer is that it points to Wikipedia, which isn't likely to die very soon. Other than that, it's a link-only answer.

NAAs are supposed to not need the question to validate whether they are NAA (i.e. mods don't judge technical accuracy (i.e. jQuery as an answer to a c++ question is not flaggable (i.e. a link only answer is never ok, whatever the question may be)))

user163250
I take it back.

user163250
No, wait, do I?

user163250
Oh, right, doesn't explicitly ask for a link.

user163250
12:37 AM
Never mind, I do take it back.

user163250
Yeah, it's link-only.

user163250
That's a sign that I need to go take a break now.

user163250
Later alligators!

I just figured out that e.g. isn't the first 2 letters of "egsampl", but "Exempli Gratia".

1:16 AM
I have a SO vs CrossValidated question if anyone's around who is fairly comfortable with that range
It was automigrated here by 5 closes from CV, and it's typical of something I see every so often
it is, sort of, a programming question (how do I do X in SAS)
but it's something that is really more of a 'how do I do X statistical thing'
while it's not firmly on the statistical side, it's really just asking how to use a statistical procedure, which is neither something likely to get much help on SO
nor really programming per se
and I was under the impression that "statistical computing" was on topic for Cross Validated
I flagged a similar question a while back to be denied migration, but was declined (with no note as to why), so curious if I'm just wrong

I dunno.

Joe
And, sadly, CV has very little activity on chat (never managed to find anyone on there the three times I've gone, including during the week)
Oh well, if anyone has an opinion @ me, thanks.

1:32 AM
at least 6 same answers like that today

Not spam. There's disclosure and the answers are a little bit helpful. Of course, they're still link-only.

@bjb568 no, they definitely should be cleaned up by a mod and probably a suspension too.

Of course they need cleaning, but they'd actually be fine as a comment.

@VotetoClose I've just NAAd those. Not necessarily spam, but still need to go.
This could also use NAA.

CV? It got closed and reopened before, tho there were no edits. stackoverflow.com/q/157463/2888561

> Can I just deploy my artifacts to my ftp host using mvn deploy, or should I manually deploy and/or setup some things before being able to deploy artifacts?
sounds fine to me....

Joe
I removed the request for tool, otherwise that question is fine (stackoverflow.com/questions/9176160/…)
I'm confused by the close/reopen on that one, @Braiam. Especially that the last CVer cast one of the reopen votes (bmargulies).
cast the first reopen vote in fact.

Joe
1:57 AM
Is it some sort of review thing?

@Braiam Should I use [thing] is POB. Also, "Do I need a tool like Apache Archiva?".

Joe
get bonus review queue whatnots by casting a reopen vote?

@bjb568 doesn't sounds like that to me: Can I foo, or should I bar before being able to deploy X?

Joe
Should I use [thing] is not necessarily opinion based; it might be bad wording, but often that is realistically answered with a direct answer, not an opinion.
"Should I use 'select' or 'update' to get rows from a table"
yes, 'should' isn't really a good word there, but it's a perfectly fine question
rather than CV, edit and fix

@Braiam Should I use [thing] or do it manually by bar-ing?
@Joe Most of the time it is.

Joe
2:00 AM
@bjb568 If those are two options and they want which one is nicer or something, sure
if only one of them will actually work
then it's a reasonable question
again, you can edit the question
and make it better

@bjb568 hey, give a prize to the man, at least he didn't said "what's the best way I can deploy X?"

Joe
CV should be used only if a question isn't obviously salvageable without input from the asker

@Joe Use tool, or do manually? Unless the tool is broken, both should work.
@Joe We... know.

Joe
Honestly it doesn't sound like it.
From the five CV requests up there, at least 2 are easily salvageable.

@bjb568 well, if the answer is: there shouldn't be any problem with either, I don't see what's the solely opinionated answers it could generate

Joe
2:02 AM
and that question is pretty reasonable, IMO
He is asking if he can just do X, or if he has to manually do Y
he's not asking if one is a nicer way to do it or somesuch
he's asking if it will work

Just make sure your edits aren't too radical. I dunno about the last one.
@Braiam The tool sucks! The people who made it didn't say thank you when I held open a door for them. Unless you're an idiot, you need to do it manually.
"or should I". Not "can I". Sounds like POB.

Joe
If "should" is the only reason it's a problem, edit it to Can. That's exactly the point.

But editing something that's POB into something that's not without changing the meaning of the post too much is hard. Just rewriting it to fix all the problems is creating a new post, and isn't a valid edit.

Joe
You're focused too much on legalities and details. Focus on the fact that there is a person on the other side, who wants to get an answer to a question.
Is there a reasonable way that, within the rules give or take, we can make their question okay for this site?
If so, do it.

That's how you get your edits rolled back.
Legalities are important.
But feel free to preach your way in a meta post, I think editing is good.

Q: Should we have a new close reason to replace the current "answer lock" on questions?

CupcakeMy understanding is that "answer locks" on questions are used (conservatively) to prevent new answers from being added to popular questions that are already comprehensively answered, as stated in When can a question become locked against new answers when there's a community wiki?. In that questi...

@Cupcake the problem is the title still reads "closed"

user163250
6:19 AM
@JanDvorak well, isn't it closed though?

true

user163250
Animuson suggested modifying the existing lock implementation for this case:

user163250
@Mysticial I think modifying the answer lock to only block answers would be far easier to implement. They already have a custom modification that changes how a question behaves for a historical lock. Aside from that, I don't see users not being able to vote/comment on the question as that bad of a side-effect to begin with. At least not bad enough to warrant a complete change in how be prohibit this behavior. Users are still perfectly capable of conducting all normal actions on all the answers. — animuson ♦ 14 mins ago

I don't like the idea of using a close reason for this simply because "closed" in itself means the question is not a good fit for our site. These questions are not necessarily bad questions, we just have no way of stopping shitty answers that people keep posting. — animuson ♦ 9 hours ago
this pretty much sums it up.

I noticed the questions "Why was my flag declined? >:( It was obviously a robo" and "Do I still need to provide examples if it is obvious from the review history that the user is a robo?" are the same question, tho only the latter gets upvotes.

The first one sounds like a rant

@bjb568 s/s\././

5:23 PM
@3ventic It is.

@bjb568 then why does it surprise you it didn't get upvoted?

It doesn't.
With mod tools, you're disconnected from what everybody else is seeing. Mods should be able to see just the row of "approves" that normal people see to ban based on that.
I feel like I have to do extra work to compensate for mods... Sigh...

a row of approves, by itself, is acceptable

How?

maybe those reviews just happened to come in unlikely streaks
Also, what Brad says. Reviews of deleted posts are not visible.

5:47 PM
That's only valid for LQRQ and (less so) CVQ.

most FPs are legitimately NAN, though

@JanDvorak 1 in a row: 50%. 2 in a row: 25%. 4 in a row: 6%. 8 in a row: .4%. 12 in a row: .025%.

@bjb568 times 5 queues, times multiple users
times many days

We're talking about edits. With other queues there are more actions and different %s.
3 of the ones I flagged are <3k rep.

rep doesn't prove anything

No, but they are new reviewers.

@Braiam I would tell you, but I don't want a 90 minute time-out from here

Oh. That.

So does it vary on when an answer is greyed out? Like my answer here has -7 score... it was like +7 score at one point, but that's besides the point ... why isn't it greyed out? I thought -3 or worse was greyed out?

1600 reviews today = ~2000 by the midnight = 100 users. With an independent 50% chance of accepting, accepting 19/20 reviews should happen once every three years. Accepting 18/20 should happen thrice a year. Accepting 17/20 should happen once a week or two. Accepting 16/20 should happen on a daily basis.

Shog9This is done. The new threshold is -8. You realize this just means y'all have to down-vote that much harder now, right?

@bjb568 thank you sir stripes

@JanDvorak :(

6:11 PM
@rene thanks. If my division is correct, that means 14% of accounts that have been created on SO have been removed/deleted. So that's like 1 in 7 users who eventually lose/delete their account. Seems kind of high. But I guess spammers. Does anyone know if spam was a bigger problem back in the day?

6:31 PM
@VotetoClose I would expect spam to be higher now due to the Google ranking...

@rene But there's better spam-prevention now. Most spam gets blocked before it even enters the system.

But it requires an account first, doesn't it?

Yeah, but if the account doesn't get around to actually posting the spam and just gets posts rejected, it won't get noticed so won't get deleted.

That is only answerable by someone with access to the db...but you might be correct.

Well, it seems to be what people are saying from meta.
