Braw.
I don't think that's how you spell it, but whatever.

Bing.

hey. So I recently got myself to 10K and I'm enjoying the new tools.
:)
Right now, at my early morning flags review I see 4 duplicate answers flags. I didn't know you could flag duplicate answers.
But it seems like the flags are pretty genuine, the answers are an exact dupe of the same post the answerer wrote somewhere else. They have zero votes. There isn't really a close for answers so I'm wondering :

@gideon The system auto-flags multiple answers which are exact copies of each other.

ah I see.
So what is the typical norm? How should I handle this?

Well, you could potentially evaluate the two questions to determine if they are duplicates or not, as duplicate answers tend to indicate duplicate questions, and vote to close if appropriate. I'm not sure if 20k users can vote to delete them or not.

Hm. Good idea. One was invalid where the guy cross posted by mistake. Commented with an explanation and deleted the wrong one.
I'll check them out. Thanks for the suggestions @animuson :)

@gideon congrats on the 10k! Look forward to seeing some more interesting flags and reviews as a result! (the 10k tools are kinda cool for finding stuff!)

@AndrewBarber I've been stealing your method of looking through that new answers to old questions list. ;P

@animuson Excellent! I've been thinking of making a blog post for 10k folks to help them find juicy stuff to flag ;)

Hmmm, my 63rd platinum trophy also happens to be my 4500th trophy...

@AndrewBarber Hey that sounds like a pretty good idea.
@AndrewBarber Thanks!! I can't tell you how ecstatic I was. I never thought I would have made it to 10k. When I finally did last week I hosted free lunch for everyone at work!!

@mootinator Did you stop by because of the phrase "free lunch"?

That's why I went to BarCamp yesterday.

hahaha!

I came here today because I was trying to help a friend out with a SO question.
Not sure if I can, but whatever :P stackoverflow.com/questions/16741732/…

Minitech is taking full advantage of moderators not requiring any reputation for their privileges. :P

That's actually negative rep effectively since he had the 100 association bonus

@JeremyBanks Does that also extend to the downvote privilege?

3:06 PM
@DanielFischer I think it would - I got a notification on meta about the privileges I gained and they show on my page explicitly despite not having rep

And now the all-important question, can minitech still offer bounties, or does he need six upvotes before he can place the next?

3:35 PM
@DanielFischer I assume he needs 5 upvotes.

you can't do a 500 bounty without enough rep to back it

There is a Mountain Dew can on our laundry room floor (unopened) that is completely encased in spider webs...

@Flexo hello

@user4035 hi

@Flexo I flagged a question: stackoverflow.com/users/flag-summary/789186, my checking moderator said, that the flag is declined. But eventually, the question was closed by the other moderator by exactly the same reason, I flagged: stackoverflow.com/questions/16774419/…
can this flag be reverted to helpful?

@user4035 nothing short of persuading a developer to alter the database can change the outcome of a flag
@user4035 looking at it though I think the flag was declined because someone else had marked it as spam
I.e. your flag was good, but someone else had one that was way out of line on the same question
unfortunately there's nothing in the UI to handle them individually

@Flexo ok, thx

looking at the timestamps if I'd guess the mod who declined it hadn't even seen your flag when they started looking at the question

5:17 PM
Interesting, is it a sort of a bug in the system?
good flags are declined in some circumstances?

well it's more like a race condition - your flag probably arrived after the other mod started looking at the bad one so got caught up in the crossfire

thx again

I feel like such a dweeb; I never realized that Uphill Luge on Meta was Hans Passant!
