@jadarnel27 And for those who work in companies who have a process so obnoxious to buy new software it is worth the headaches to work with GIMP.

Would the few, the proud, the 3k+ SO users please kill this post with fire? I'm afraid flagging it to the close vote queue will not have the desired effect, and it is so bad:

Q: About laptop register google publish account has been terminated

user2940501My laptop register a google publish account has been terminated. Now, i use my laptop to publish app on new account. Ask: my new account will terminate??

@jmac For future reference: "Very Low Quality"
explicitly designed for posts that make you say, "Ewwww"

I wanted to use a custom reason, but wasn't allowed as a flagger.
Thanks at any rate, will hit VLQ in the future
(retagging stuff is far far more annoying now that the direct 'edit tags' link is gone)
I can't edit this post because it contains localhost, but I just want to fix the tags. This is not nice.
If the tag disappeared, would anyone miss it?

@jmac hit 10K and you get it back

@Shog9 I'm under 3k after a year -- perhaps I should put off retagging until 2016 or so?
Some of the tags things get lumped on. Wow. , really?
? Yeah!
How aggressive should I be flagging? So many of these questions are absolute rubbish. I really don't think they merit mod-time though...

12:58 AM
@jmac If it's a poorly-asked programming question, flag for closure. If it's selling something, flag as spam. If it's just "someone found a textbox on the Internet" trash, VLQ.
VLQ questions can be closed by folks in the Low Quality queue, or deleted by mods.

Thanks. I will focus on VLQ/Spam stuff (I doubt I will find any spam though), flagging to close would be a waste of my precious flags since I will go through hundreds of posts.

@jmac you do know there's a limit to how many you can flag a day

@ColeJohnson Yeah, I'm doing editing on hundreds of posts. Most don't need to be flagged. So I'm saving the flags for the VLQ/spam stuff rather than flagging to close because they are limited.
I'm going through this list:

Q: Cleaning Up Google Tags

jmacCurrently there are 240 google-related tags with the word 'google' in them. There are additional tags which are hidden, like gwt or gsa which seem to relate to google but don't pop up on my (admittedly basic) search. Issue This is the tag wiki entry for google: Please do not use this tag. ...

@jmac Little hint: Sort by votes and look at the lowest score.

Cleaning up some of those tags. I can't sort. They are combinations of two tags that have to be edited in to one
(right now, for instance, I am working on + and trying to figure out if they can be retagged to or not)

1:09 AM
I'm going on a flagging spree

There are only a few questions in each (less than 20), so sorting doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme.

Questions closed last year that are VLQ

That's a flag-party if there ever was one

Q: jquery conflict with other jquery

RohitThese two jquery conflict with each other. christmaslights jquery-latest.min

That title

Awesome. It even uses the pro tag

1:10 AM
Wow. I just voted to delete that one.

This is a rabbit hole sort of thing
trying to make sure I found all the questions tagged + or I found all these other horribly tagged posts

@jmac I'm going through now

And that caused me to start retagging from the easy stuff, but I've already found a dozen meta tags.

But only flagging because I'm lazy

Q: Location of namespace file in C#

Prithvi DammalapatiWhen i was going through a C# code, I found the line "using FSI.AE.QueryEngine;" Where can i find the code for this QueryEngine, I mean the path

really?

wow.. 33k questions?!

1:14 AM
It's a shame that people answer those types ofquesgioms
Of quedtions*
-_-

@ColeJohnson You know you can edit right? ;]

33k questions is just an absurd amount of work though
I mean, the close queue is 100k and people whine, but that has a devoted queue and people working on it every day
something a third of the size is virtually impossible to tackle.

@GnomeSlice not on mobile you can't

Exactly. But not all 33k of those questions are necessarily bad.

@ColeJohnson Ah.

1:17 AM
The questions may be good, but doesn't make them related, does it?

doesn't have any questions

@JoshC nothing

1:21 AM
Check again- I had a typo.
only 49 questions
and it has a wiki..

Didn't know there was such a thing!

Does that mean adding bugs? xD

Q: Why is AES more secure than DES?

unj2I am beginning to learn crypto algorithms and I understand how the above mentioned algorithms work. Is it that the key length of AES is longer? Which steps of AES encryption makes it less vulnerable than DES?

@Shog9 "your account was a little bit broken. Then I broke it worse." - Exactly the kind of thing you want to hear from a StackExchange moderator :) — Simon André Forsberg 36 mins ago

@ColeJohnson How can you see that if you don't have 10k on the main site?

1:29 AM
@JoshC I flagged it for deletion. I remember it

I just accidentally created 2 new tags >.>

one of these days i'll have 10k and can see those deleted questions
going gets a little slower when 99% of the questions i can answer should be closed instead of answered :/

@JoshC That really makes me want to link to the clip from the Bizzarro episode of sealab where chicken-quinn starts saying, "I'm helping! I'm helping!"

@JoshC I must make an Anonymous question using before 3 AM UTC
@Dennis I raised that issue on meta, but people said I just lost interest

10k? Ha! Try getting to 3k!
has three active users, and I think I'm the only one who upvotes.
Got unsung hero in 3 months or so.

1:35 AM
I got 10k within being on here 3 months.. I really wanted to see those deleted questions.

@jmac I was talking about the main site, where I already have 3k
and speaking of unsung hero, i'm perpetually 2-3 zero score accepted answers away

@DennisMeng Not anymore! I just upvoted every single accepted answer of yours!

@JoshC lol
@ColeJohnson Yeah, I figured a question like that exists. If taking a long while to get to 10k means I help close out bad questions in the meantime, then that's fine.

@Dennis I've been at 3k for months. Never broke 4k
Heck, never broke 3.5k

1:39 AM
One of these days I should put together a spreadsheet of common questions that people keep posting as dupes

@ColeJohnson What tags do you answer in?

@JoshC mainly.

so you get skeeted?

@DennisMeng I meant the main site too -- I'm having issues getting to 3k so I can actually close questions. I'm at 2800 because my favorite tag now has 2 people who actually know about 20 times as much as I do, and I never get to answer questions anymore.

No
@Dennis The questions are just crap

1:41 AM
(being halfway around the world from the US doesn't help much either due to lack of questions when I'm on)

@jmac Ah, that's what you meant. Yeah, that's unfortunate

And I don't want to waste time answering a bad questions, get upvoted (and downvoted by people who downvote answers on bad questions [like me]), get rep, then lose it when the question is purged

@ColeJohnson Yeah, I answer in java, and it's not that great either. Half the questions are a lost cause, and a third of what's left is a dupe of the same two questions

@DennisMeng Not that much of a big deal. So long as I can participate in meta and get people to improve the site, I don't need to get my hands dirty so much. It'd be nice to be able to pitch in more though.

@Dennis some of the people in my AP Comp Sci class are idiots to say the least
I'm just there for the free credits :D
Hey @Dennis, here's Java

Q: I have been working on this code for three hours and yet it still doesn't work. (short code)

MaxI can not for the life of me manage to get this to work and it is making me lose all hope. Given two strings, A and B, create a bigger string made of the first char of A, the first char of B, the second char of A, the second char of B, and so on. Any leftover chars go at the end of the result. ...

1:45 AM
@jmac I feel ya
@ColeJohnson Oh man, I miss the days when I thought 3 hours was a long time for code

People talking about school make me feel old. Can I pretend you've been held back for 15 years @Cole?

Great title. I will click on that if I see it in Google.

@ColeJohnson Though speaking of AP Comp Sci, I remember the days when I took it
Most of my classmates called me crazy.

@jmac Sure. I'm only 17

@ColeJohnson No, see, the point is to make myself not feel old by saying that you should be 17, but were held back 15 years so are actually 32. Then I feel better. You still have the edit window! Make it right!

1:48 AM
@jmac If it makes you feel better, I have a cousin that's 35

Well, it's apt, but probably not for the reason that he/she intended.

Wait, 17, you were born in 1996. Are you familiar with a technology known as "VHS"?
I can't even do math.

1:59 AM
@jmac yes.

I'm 17 and I know what a VHS is.

Those were the days

@ColeJohnson Were you aware that there were items called 'floppy disks' which, in their heyday, were the prime storage medium rocking in at 1.44MB (HD/DD)

I remember spending like a whole day just going through our movie collection and rewinding everythig

Don't forget cassette tapes too

2:00 AM
I used them once I think
I wasn't into computers by the time they phased out
It wasn't until I was 8 it started
@JoshC books on tape in Kindergarden :)

I remember when my buddy down the street got a 386 zooming at 14 MHz compared to our old 286 with 8 MHz.

Speaking of retro, I have Doom on my TI NSpire CX :)
@JoshC wait. A dead GB battery, or a dead cartridge battery
The first one wasn't bad. The second was a nightmare

@ColeJohnson Cartridge battery.

@JoshC ouch

Then there were the games that tried to fix that by giving you a code instead. Then you forget them :(
@jmac request for synomize?

possibly something different.
There are so many potential synonyms in the google tags. People need to help (hint hint)

Q: Chat room for religious discussions

NezamIs it OK to have a religious discussion chatroom on stackexchange? Which of the stackexchange sites should I use to create such a room? I'd also like to be able to invite others to chat there somehow - will such a room support inviting users from other sites? The idea being I would like some us...

Guess not

That is a great idea - inviting people from SO to religion chatrooms
We could connect "best practice" and religious discussions
"Does God want me to use database indexes?"

It's the whole "invitation" angle that makes me suspicious

Yeah totally.
But the discussions one could have

Discussions? Somehow, I doubt there will be much discussing going on in such chat rooms.

2:22 PM
But I have so many questions. Is this line from 1 Corinthians 12: "There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord." an indication that datacenters running different Operating Systems are a sin?

What is God's opinion on Windoze?

Given the amount of times the name of our Lord is uttered while working with said operating system, surely He holds it in high regard.

"Why did God allow Windows Vista?"

The Lord surely appreciated the step up from ME @Duncan.

True dat.

When the reckoning comes, how much does bad code count against you?

It's the language of choice that will determine your fate. Note how it was a python that offered the forbidden fruit.

Good point

So programming Python on an Apple is blasphemy?

Correct. There is also no letter 'C' in Hebrew, so don't think about that either.

A guy contacted me on careers a while back. I didn't really see anything overly relevant to me in the job description, but went on to a phone interview, just to see what it was about. He kept going on about PHP, and I ended up asking - why me. Turns out I was in the top 10% of the tag, simply on account of it being on so many HTML/JS/CSS questions that were not, in fact, about PHP.

@Oded same for me. I am in the top 10% for ASP.NET even though I've never written a line of it in my entire life

@Pëkka - you can hide tags in careers now. That's what I ended up doing.

I keep getting asked to either write or review books on topics I have only participated in sideways on SO.

Yep - that's happened to me a couple of times now.

@Oded yeah, essentially

can mods split a question into a question & an answer to the question?

1k mod flags on SO. Yay

@Bart Link?

@JohannesKuhn No.

What is the best way to deal with such things then?

3:00 PM
Apart from the obvious edit the question and paste the answer as a new answer.

@Oded A sign you need more moderators? sharpens dagger...

@JohannesKuhn Comment to the OP asking them to put the answer in an answer. Alternatively (in particular if OP is not responsive), do that yourself (edit q and copy answer), with perhaps explaining what you have done and where the answer came from.

I think we could do a lot of stuff when high rep users would have more mod-like privileges.

@JohannesKuhn I tend to edit the question immediately to remove the answer. Then I leave a comment explaining what I've done.

@Duncan probably. The Community Team are probably thinking about getting an election starting sometime soonish.

@Oded in that particular case, the question is closed (so I would have to reopen it, add the answer and close it. Ohh, and I need 4 others for the votes)

@JohannesKuhn Ah, didn't realise it was closed..

Leave it be then. Close and on its way to deletion -> not worth bothering with.

A question with a score of +11 is not automatically deleted. And it shows that it might be useful.

Still, worth editing the answer out, @Joh

Removed answer from the question.; [made Community Wiki by being edited by more than 5 different editors]
I feel bad now.

It's not your fault that it took 5 editors to try and rescue the question, @Johannes.

ok, reviewed my 40 close queue tasks today.

Is there any likelihood my 10k tools feature request will get looked at? I was just handling some flags and was reminded how irritating it is.

Q: Collapse posts when flag has been handled in 10K tools

DuncanWhen I use the 10k tools to handle flags, I lose track of which posts I've handled because there is no visual change to the post once I've handle the flag. To give a visual example: I've handled the flag on one of these questions below. Can you guess which? Hint: you can't! Would it be possi...

It strikes me it wouldn't be a huge change to implement, since the collapsing functionality is used elsewhere on the site.
In fact, that functionality is used on that page, but only if a close flag is included. At which point, using the "Close question..." link will collapse the post after use.

My profile tells me that I cast 41 votes today. Ehm, yes. Of a maximum of 40, right?

Perhaps something was deleted and the numbers are still... settling?

Q: How does someone get to cast more than 40 votes in a day?

WardAnd by someone, I mean that evil feline WesleyDavid: That screenshot was taken just before 4pm PST, i.e. just before 0000 UTC. That shows KittehHead's votes for the month, which is the same as for the day since it's March 1st. Just to be sure it wasn't that SE had the time wrong, I tried...

So...yay, crap was deleted!
