Dumb question. What is the point of downvotes on questions? If it's a good question, it should be upvoted. If it's a bad question, it should be closed. What is the added benefit of having downvotes on questions exactly? Am I totally missing a piece of the puzzle?

This is the best question I've ever seen on SO: stackoverflow.com/questions/19300933/windows-data-recovery/…

@Qantas94Heavy That truly is a gem. Is there a "Rubbernecking" historical lock option?

Unfortunately not, though we might store this along with the unicorns.

What is the appropiate close reason for this one?

Q: Company seeking my personal projects during non-work at home?

tester2001Ok, so I'm building "Web 2.0/3.0" sites to make extra money. I currently run my own personal project sites with some advanced technology in the backend (AI stuff, recommendation system) that I've developed over the years. It's a subscription site for me to make money on the side. Now, my company...

Off topic, other, "This question appears to be about legal issues." etc.

The old appear to be all off-topic.

Next time leave the pre-filled text intact @JohannesKuhn. Because that will appear as a comment below the question. :)

I know.
Edited the comment btw.

Q: Home Office Programming requirements?

Other factors to consider, for a home with a family and the normal distractions. Assume this is web application development, but op...

@Bart agreed

That's just, like, your opinion @Duncan.

I love the smell of close votes in the morning.

I thought one spam flag was enough to hide an answer?

That was changed to a helpful spam flag.

From you as the flagger? Nope

Oh, ok. That makes more sense.
This effort to remove URL shorteners (which I'm strangely addicted to) is turning up some real gems as people try and game the system.

Thoughts on what to do with answers like this one? A URL shortener has been used to avoid the jsfiddle/no-code restrictions. So I can't actually edit out the link without adding some code to the answer. But I'm not an expert in this area, so I'm slightly loathe to just cut the link out entirely.

A: Javascript not working with Bootstrap 3

David TaiaroaHere's a working jsFiddle with almost your exact HTML, the only differences are that I'm linking to CDN versions of jQuery, Bootstrap 3 CSS and Bootstrap 3 JS As others have suggested, double check all the CSS and JS files are actually loading and there isn't a path issue Check all your Bootstr...

Not the first time I've encountered that user avoiding the jsfiddle rules in this manner, I might add!

Without the jsFiddle link, the answer is IMHO much less worth

Sorry - I meant I would replace the link with the code contained at the link.
Seems like jsfiddle also allows one to specify frameworks to use, etc, so a direct copy/paste of the HTML would lose some data.
I think the answer is quite reasonable, really. The link adds context but is not the sole content of the answer. The goal here is just to remove the use of is.gd.

Right. Convert is.gd to the actuall jsfiddle link, add the HTML.
The libs that he had added are already mentioned in his post.

Looking closer, the HTML is exactly the same as the OP's question, however.
I guess what this actually needs is a modified version of the <script src="..."></script> that the OP has in the question.

12:55 PM
Duplicating the code wouldn't be useful. The jsfiddle link is useful.

I guess this is one of those cases where the rules don't fit well.

Brown?

Brown.

BROWN

ブラウン!

What can brown do for you? Aside from sit, waiting to be flushed.
@Duncan I feel you there; bringing in the relevant code would be best, but it's hard to do that if you can't figure out exactly what is relevant .
@Duncan I added a comment asking the OP to bring in a relevant code snippet.

@AndrewBarber There's brown sauce:

2:30 PM
I have morbid curiosity now...

Brownsauce must be even better than awesomesauce.

@AndrewBarber It is an actual thing, here in England. Very popular.
Not too far off from Ketchup in flavor

Yeah, well; Nutella is a thing here. And I don't know what to think about it, except it boggles my mind that kids like it.

Thanks @AndrewBarber.
HP sauce is quite nice. It has it's own unique flavour, but somewhere between ketchup and BBQ sauce. I personally prefer ketchup, but some people swear by brown sauce.

@Duncan Hmmm... you make it sound almost good.

2:50 PM
Brown sauce is awesomeness.

@Andrew You don't like Nutella?!
They had Nutella-filled empanadas covered in sugar where I was in Mexico last week. It was amazing.

3:09 PM
I love how Nutella advertises itself as an almost healthy, hazelnut-based spread. As though that somehow tricks the parents out there that it isn't chocolatey crap.
Sometimes I read SO and just think - that is what the site is about. Case in point:

Q: Calculating ECDSA signature in Java as per an RFC test vector

PinkyNoBrainI am writing a test harness in java for a program relating to the ikev2 protocol. As part of this i need to be able to calculate an ECDSA signature (specifically using the NIST P-256 curve). RFC 4754 Describes the the use of ECDSA in IKEv2 and helpfully provides a set of test vectors (Including...

Great question, complete with almost an SSCCE. Excellent answer.

Meh, it's Java. Voted to close.

But it's a Java question, so it will be slow to close.
Better hope others don't take... exception to that! baddum-tish
I'm here all week.

@Duncan Yeah, I don't feel like the Nutella ads are fooling many people.
Just like those ads implying high fructose corn syrup is good for you, because it's made from corn.

4:04 PM
@jadarnel I just think the description of it doesn't sound appetizing.

4:22 PM
Yeah, I could see that. It's good, though. You should try it.

@Duncan: he updated the answer to include the code. :)

@AndrewBarber Yay, URL shortener removed as a result.

Ahh, cool; since he didn't need it anymore with the code there. I hadn't even noticed that.

@Duncan I fear it does trick some parents.
They (Ferrero) know no decency when it comes to advertising.
In Germany, when you watch their ads, you'd think "the best of a pint of whole Milk" is Nutella's main ingredient.

9:15 PM
Haha, that's true. I was just looking at the ingredients Saturday. I think the top 3 included sugar and cocoa.

Those are the best parts of milk.

I swear I just heard the radio traffic report say "Nutella flowing inbound through the tunnel".

@michaelb958 we have gathered here because we have to talk to you. This is an intervention.

Put down the lighter and spoonful of Nutella, and come chat with us.
IV confections is nothing to play around with.
You're hurting yourself. And your family. And, more importantly, there's no Nutella left for my toast.

And don't try to deny it. We have evidence

Hi all, I got the following review task: stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/3333818 where user jep wanted to change MIME Version to the correct MIME-Version. However, both in the markdown view and the rendered output view this edit is virtually un-noticable and hence this edit was rejected. I only found the difference by visiting the original thread.
Because I felt user jep earned his rep-points for catching and editing this, I then clicked the 'improve' button so I could flag the 'this edit was helpful' (and remove the noise user jeb had to add to get his valid edit accepted in the first place). However I noticed that jeb didn't get the points for editing the answer.
More importantly, I wonder if something could be done so that the reviewers might better see the change. In the markdown and rendered output, changed/deleted parts in the previous version are both red and have text-effect strike-through. Thus, replacing a space with - is hardly recognizable. Maybe change strike-through with line-over ??

@GitaarLAB There are a lot of people who take issue to code edits in any form. Even if it is helpful (and just correcting a little mistake). I made the following to try to explain how I think it should work, but I still see questions popping up all the time on the other side of it too. Just seeing the change won't make people approve (unfortunately):

Q: When should I make edits to code?

jmacThe about page says: Improve posts by editing or commenting Our goal is to have the best answers to every question, so if you see questions or answers that can be improved, you can edit them. Use edits to fix mistakes, improve formatting, or clarify the meaning of a post. The edit...

11:50 PM
Thanks for your response. I'm reading your faq right now. If the people that try to validate the edit (in the code especially) can't see the change in the first placy, they (as I almost did to) will reject the edit as being to minimal. In fact, the only reason I instigated the edit so thoroughly was the description (I recognized that feeling from when my rep was lower and one has to add noise to fix 1 crucial character in the code).
Thus I figured, there is already color. so a red white-space on the left side and a red minus-character on the red side would have been clear to see. Then I thought of say color blind people and the added visual indication of the strike-through and then I reasoned.. that I've never seen a over-line in code....
