@JourneymanGeek Did you finish Fallout?

Yup
Loved it

@JourneymanGeek We three, my echo, my shadow and me. ;)
Though these flying power armors were kinda a stretch :p

12:37 AM
A little but they sort of helped with the plot/humour

@super-starball-ultra yeah, that was a neat trick, employed by many.

6:18 AM
Including me.

6:41 AM
@rene I wonder what is used for that detection. Origin header? Referer header?

@super-starball-ultra Hmm, I tried curl -vvvvv https://i.sstatic.net/pHlZ7zfg.png -o myimg.png that gives me the PNG without issues. It does send a UserAgent but nothing else. Maybe they have a job that marks whether an image is actually found in any post/user profile/comment/revision/chat etc. So I'l re-test in 6 to 8 hours.

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Okay, I've done the rename. a.) I have trouble to find a question to add the 'new' to. b.) the now mentions imgur in the tag info. Split that tag too? Or just rewrite the tag info to mention the new destination and a 'previously imgur' line?

@Tinkeringbell I've updated the tag info of image-uploader: meta.stackexchange.com/tags/image-uploader/info I think we're good, no need to split imo.

@rene Cool, thanks!

I initially also mentioned chat but off course chat (still) doesn't use the image uploader.

@Tinkeringbell When are the installers coming for your new solar panels?

@rene Hahaha nope XD
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I don't have a date yet, I'll probably give an excited yell when I do/it's close :P
Can take more than a month though, these people are busy

Are you going to own the panels or are you leasing them?

7:58 AM
Own.
Costs about 3k for 6 panels, which includes all the wiring and getting an extra thingy at the breaker panel.
And the time/people to install all of it, and the renting of scaffolding etc.

I hope you're getting some form of government incentive on that. Here, we get 30% of the overall cost of installation as a rebate when we do our taxes
That's a key reason why solar companies try to push people to lease their panels, because then they get to pocket the tax rebate.

There aren't really any incentives except that the excess energy I create during summer, I get to 'use' during winter. So, I make 300kWh in summer and only use 150, then I have 150kWh 'for free' in winter.
It's a complicated thing and something the government wants to get rid of, because it is no longer very fair (people without solar panels are paying more for electricity because energy companies have to 'give away' increasing amounts of electricity during winter, while that energy isn't free for the energy company to get)
But since my grid situation is weird anyways, I can use that for at least the next 9 years, regardless of what the government decides.

You mean energy companies make less profit and that is bad for the share holders, right?

(Oh, and there's stuff like 0% interest rate loans, but those require you to do 2 or more 'green' measures, and a few other things IIRC)
@rene I will be the first to agree that having share holders and energy companies is absolutely nuts (hah, nutsbedrijven :P)

LOL

8:06 AM
But I do kinda agree that the current situation isn't sustainable long term either :P I work for a grid operator and part of my job includes me seeing daily messages about how bad things are getting XD
I mean, we are all still being very Dutch with our solar panelling at the moment, preferably getting way more than needed just because it 'pays off'.
Batteries, same: The ones that have a battery system here are mostly the ones that really want to 'make some profit'.
No one here is thinking 'oh, I have enough money to do something good for the environment, I'll get panels and a battery so I can run airconditioning at night from power made during the day'.
That doesn't 'pay off', it doesn't 'earn its worth back', so no one does it.
(I'm one of those people btw, I'm also only getting panels and no battery :P)

Correct. We still fly to our holiday destination, right?

I don't. I always celebrate my holidays in Hintergarten or Tuinesia.

Yep, we in California tried a deregulated electricity system back in the early 2000s...a certain company named Enron abused it and caused an electricity shortage. Never went back to that model.
In my city, we're trying to get enough signatures to get a vote on the next election to force a sale of the current private electric company to a public nonprofit

That'd be awesome if it pays off.

We did succeed in moving generation to public nonprofits. Grid operations and billing are still the private company's responsibility, however.

8:14 AM
Well, having everything non-profit is how it should be, IMO.
Energy, grids, healthcare, housing... to an extent, I would even say food shouldn't be subjected to 'profits' and 'capitalism'.

I agree. This was the same company that the previous January doubled natural gas prices in a time of a very cold winter:
Jan 26, 2023 at 18:36, by Sonic the Anonymous Hedgehog
> The cost per unit of natural gas (known as a therm) has more than doubled increasing from $2.36 per therm in January 2022 to $5.11 per therm in January 2023. More than 90% of the increase in the overall gas rate is driven by the market price for gas – what SDG&E pays suppliers to buy the gas on behalf of our customers.
@Tinkeringbell Also telecommunications and the railways

8:34 AM
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog Not just railways, all public transport, also buses, trams, metro

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact I don't wanna merge with your butt
That's the first step towards that centipede man movie
Or whatever it was called

@M.A.R. Please, don't. A stupid coworker mentioned that piece of trash once, I newer saw it but I also don't need someone reminding me it exists.

@M.A.R. HumancentiPad ...

@SPArcheon It exists.
@Tinkeringbell I saw a scene on YT once, and the effects disappointed me. It looked like they’d gone for the cheap option of just bandaging over the stitches, instead of showing them. If I remember correctly, of course.
Yeah, just looked it up again. How disappointing.

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact oh, like how much Kenny pee in the Den?

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda A little bit more normal than that.

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact long time no flush?

@ShadowWizardLoveZelda Yes
I bought some whale meat from the grocery store yesterday.
Expensive, but not that bad of a price.

@AndreasmovedtoCodidact is that legal? I don't think my AH has that on sale here.

@rene Yes, of course.
From what I can read online, only a few countries hunt whales: Norway, Iceland, Faroe islands, Japan, Indonesia.

Is its taste comparable to anything we might know? Is it like tuna?

Oh, and indigenous people in Canada, USA and Greenland.
@rene I don't know. I put it in the freezer for later this week. It's been too long since I tried it, so I can't remember.

Fair enough. Keep us posted ;)

Sure will. :D

@Tinkeringbell Depends on your definition of worth it and how you'd take a video that's literally about a mad scientist sewing people's front and rear ends together, so noooo

@rene yes, it stinks like it
I also think I nuked that spammer before on SU
