Sam
2:25 PM
@Unihedro Sure thing.

Sam! Sam! Welcome back!!

Sam
Thanks! :D
It's nice to be back :)
Did Pham behave himself while I was gone?

... Yeah, until just then, I guess it's never wise for me to overload bandwidth :)

Sam
Eh, 6 new issues :O
Yeah.
Ooo, I see you got Pham a hat!

I triggered the overflow black hole of the router, so my connection died; I restarted the whole thing, and now it's OK.

Sam
2:31 PM
lol

It's some DDoS protection I made for myself, glad to see it actually works.

Sam
Nice. Home-made-anti-cyber-warfare :D

Yesterday I started contributing to fge/throwing-lambdas, and the day before I started finishing project euler problems. Lots of fun! I was using javascript too, so I learned some JS along the way.
@Sam :D

Sam
It looks interesting.

It's an utility that builds upon lambda expressions added in Java 8.
It's going to be really helpful for JCE. ;)

Sam
2:33 PM
:D
lol, 16 pings while I was away.
goes to check...

:D
It's great to see you back again!
Oh, and, Inf owns the Tavern now, remarkable of note :P
She doesn't like it when we explicitly mention it though, so there's that.

Sam
Thanks. :)
And likewise ;)
@Unihedro O_O
Thanks for the heads-up.
Oh, btw.

Oh?

Sam
I had an idea about Pham while I was away.

:o

Sam
2:39 PM
(Quite a "big" idea)
What if... I made Pham into client-server based model.
For example.

Like folding@home?

Sam
Being able to add/remove /look-up terms, chat, etc. through the Pham.exe.
(Using websockets to connect it all up)

:O
And the server directly manages the connection and posts into the room, instead of having the task on the client?

Sam
Yeah, something like that.
That way, I can add some more features to the clients.
Such as.

BTW, I had an interesting conversation while you were away:

Sam
2:42 PM
Oh?
Reading out TP'd spam, displaying a notif for certain reports, having private chat rooms.

Yeah!

Sam
And...
I can make it a lot easier to add terms.

(self destructing pic, the origin will be taken down after 10 mins)

Sam
kk
(I've opened the pic in a new tab.)

Dead then, since you have it on your end cached. :)
No more hastebin ever now :P

Sam
2:46 PM
Blame caching ;)
@Unihedro Wow.

@Sam Yes, you're changing the world, I feel proud for you :)

Sam
! :D
I couldn't have done it without your regex knowledge. ;)

Sam
3:08 PM
So.

I just saw Nord's password and I facepalm'd - oh god, how would I ever thought that was easily memoriseable

Sam
What's happening with the unofficial chat docs?
XKCD incoming...

Oh! Fox convinced me to try using github pages, I made a simple stylesheet but now I'm still hesitating whether to use and maintain static pages, or to use Wikia.
So I haven't done anything related on it yet.

Sam
Kk.
Oh, and my mouse died. So now I'm just left with lappy's touch pad. :|

:o
mouses are too OP, all real coders uses a touchpad ;)

Sam
3:15 PM
lol :D

Really, I find a touchpad easier to use, since I don't work with GUIs a lot - I really only move little inches a few times per day, so my thumb does great at that :)
While typing, of course.
Like now. :P
enjoys sliding the thumb on the touch pad

Sam
I... must... order... new... mouse... asap.
brb
(Getting dinner)

Nice noms ;)

Sam
... and back.
Nothing amazing, just some kfc. ;)
Right, and now to review my new pics :D
(Ping me if ya need me)

:D

Sam
4:14 PM
And the first one...

:O

Sam
^ The power of a long(er) shutter @ 15 secs. (Took that on the night we arrived.)

It's amazing O-o
so beautiful

Sam
Thanks :)
You'll never guess what's causing the refection at the bottom.

Is it... A pond?

Sam
4:18 PM
Nope.
It's actually...

eagerly listens

Sam
The roof of a car.

oh, wow, I missed an entire discussion here

?! Kidding?

@Sam :O Cool!
@Unihedro Now he says it's a car, I can recognize one.

4:19 PM
Well... This is an incredible scene :D

Sam
I had put the camera down somewhere where I could capture the trees, sky, etc. So our car's roof was the only option left ;)

I'm fascinated!

Sam
(... since I was using such a long shutter speed, and I erm coughdonthaveatripodcough.)
@ProgramFOX Thanks!

@Sam That's an interesting idea!

Sam
Any thoughts/ideas?

4:23 PM
We would need a server, first.
Don't know if you have one.

Sam
Pham Server = The Guy's Machine Hosting Pham
I was kinda thinking of something similar to a peer-based system.

Oh, cool. Can you configure it some way to receive web sockets from all Pham runners?

Sam
Yep.

Realistically anyone could host the server with their computer, directly implying the use of home servers.
It would be great to have it run on remote cloud though, of course.

Sam
Agreed.

4:25 PM
True.

Sam
@Unihedro If you're interested, I've got a couple links you may want to check out: me and me.
My original idea was to just have the user (clients/server) login using their SE creds, but only allow owners to initialise the server.
But, it does mean I'll have to use chat as a peer discovery sever (of sorts).
As in, the server will need post in the HQ the normal "pham started" message + the IP of the host.
So clients can connect.
Unless anyone has a better idea...

@Sam Does it matter if your IP changes?

Sam
Well, no. Since IIRC, a dynamic IP only changes if the line is not in use.

My IP changes daily...

Sam
At night?

4:34 PM
Well I have a static IP, but is this really effective?

No, when I start up my router. It isn't on all day.

Sam
@Unihedro If we all had static IPs I wouldn't need to use a peer discovery system.
@ProgramFOX Right, so this should work then.
Wait. I have an idea. We could use Uni as our peer-dis server instead of chat.
Pic #2...

Nice!

Sam
Thanks!

@Sam That's great!

Sam
4:44 PM
Tanks!
I've actually got another pic of that same tree, but in a different light.

:D

Cool!

Sam
@Pro Quick Q, have you ever managed to sign into VS 2013 Com?

Brr... Cold :(

@Sam I just tried 5 minutes ago. Still busy with "getting things ready".

Sam
4:55 PM
@Unihedro Same over here (hovering around 0 atm.)
@ProgramFOX Same here :/

I'm just going to let it keep getting those things ready and see how long it takes.

Sam
I've left it doing that for 30 mins already.

:O
If it's not going to do an actual thing, I'll wait until the license has been expired; perhaps it goes faster then.
perhaps

Sam
This is evil. I've got 4 days left of my trial. And I have to sign-in to continue using it. Typical.
... and now I can't close the window. HALP!

clicks on Feedback thingy, and goes to write something about it

5:02 PM
Have you looked into AWS @Sam? It's free :p

Sam
Oh, it turns out my Photo.SE Q would've been a dupe. is thankful I searched before posting
AWS?

Amazon Web Services

Sam
Ah, nope. I've never thought of that.
@ProgramFOX Upticked.

Thanks!

Sam
5:09 PM
np

5:25 PM
DigitalOcean has an interesting discount code policy. Each account may only claim one discount code, no more.

Sam
5:45 PM
That's weird.
@Pro!
I've got it working.
Try signing in with via the sign in button (top right), rather than signing in via the notif.
scratches head, trying to remember creds
Woot! It actually worked! :D

:O
@Sam Thanks!
Then I'll update my bug report.

Sam
Np!
@Unihedro Hmm, I think I'll (for now) just use chat. So... server initialises (posts "pham started <encrypted IP>") -> clients check for the last start-up message -> decrypt IP -> check if alive -> connect if still running

6:02 PM
@Sam "check for the last start-up message" - polling?
Also, this sounds like a good thing to integrate into a chat client as a plugin :)

Sam
Nope, chat search (via CE.Net).
@Unihedro ;)

BTW, since I'm coding mine in Java, it's going to be natively easy to implement a plugin loader (!!)

Sam
Good for you!

:p

Sam
(I'll probably have to create my own framework, or something. I'll research later...)

Sam
6:41 PM
Finally. I've submitted a pic!

ohhh, nice!

Sam
Thx!

7:31 PM
Hallo
