@Sam How'd you pick out bad tags?

Sam
Hmm, me thinks I should remove "cheap".
@Andy I had to manually go through MSO and MSU.
@Andy Why'd you ask?
Bad Tag Used: [block] Override formend block for one form, by 69punk, on stackoverflow.com.

@Andy find tags with "don't use this tag" desc manually?
@Andy PR this file github.com/ArcticWinter/Phamhilator/blob/master/Phamhilator/… and include the explanation, we add tags to monitor that way

@Sam Just wondering. I saw you had them in a file and was wondering if you'd added those manually or gone through an API call or something to get them

@Andy Oh right; yeah, I didn't write a function to get the tags, as it would probably be notoriously inaccurate.

maybe we can make a user-propose bad tag system and users voting on proposed bad tags like tag synonyms on SO :)

Sam
2:26 PM
@Unihedron I was actually going to add a "add/remove tag" command.

oh.

Sam
I think voting for tags will be a bit too much.
Remember, not everyone will be given access to these commands.
Especially with the recent bot abuse happening.

I agree!

Sam
So the current access list: you, me, fox & jan.
Can you think of anyone else?

Here are some tags to look at adding (if you haven't already): meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/271356/…

@Andy Do you think all of those (chess | styles | ids | provider | providers | data | readonly | positioning | option | fuzzy | adf | http-status-code-500 | xmlns | api | stackoverflow.com) should be monitored?

If they say don't use, I don't see why not

@Unihedron May I make a suggestion on this file? Alphabetize it

@Unihedron How about the ¦ char?

4:15 PM
@Sam it's the OR operator. a|b
wait, is ¦ |?

yes
do you mean you want the command to look like this? add term |spam rules!|
Then take everything between the pipes?

Sam
I can't the term supports regex.

Or, are you expecting someone to pass in a regex, in which case pipe delimiters become much harder

What are you trying to achieve? You can escape characters..

Sam
@Andy Basically. This Is why I'm trying to think of a delimiter that isn't used by regex.

4:19 PM
@Sam Anything could be though

Sam
@Unihedron I'm trying to allow the user to submit a regex as a new term.

You could take everything after add term as the term

@Sam I've went through this with regex chat users a lot. There are a lot of explosive regexes. If you don't do a check filter properly, I can make your bot run a 6-char regex with 60 years.

@Unihedron Ooooh. fires up bot on work computer that I want to die

Regardless, usually a regex is notated like this, based on the regex literal from JS and PCRE:
/pattern/modifiers
in PHP they can also look like:
~pattern~modifiers

Sam
4:21 PM
@Andy That was my original plan, but I was just being lazy (using delimiters are less work).
@Uni But using Andy's idea should be fine though, right?

@Andy try this regex: (.+)*☺
@Sam Yeah.
Just be careful about giving regex support.

Sam
Ok.

@Unihedron My regex fu isn't the best. What exactly is this doing?

@Andy match the entire line, backtracks one step, tries to find a smiley face, doesn't (since your string doesn't have one); so it releases a char from .+, doesn't expand with *, release, backtrack, captures, matches with *, but still doesn't find smiley face,
Entire thing done quadruple times,
Entire thing done octuple times,
Entire thing done 16 times, 32 times, 64 times....... all the way until your string has finally backtracked half, then things become hectic and exponentially takes longer to match fail

heh. I believe I just found an awesome test to give the new guy.
buwahahahaha
ahem
sorry about that.

4:29 PM
:)
Here (.+)*, the double quantifiers are known as "explosive".
