why does each topic in the chat list take up an enormous amount of space now?

FEATURE REQUEST: make the message buttons bigger. Keep missing them / hitting the wrong ones...

YO' MESSAGE BUTTON SO FAT.. it makes a beeping noise when it backs up
ok the starred messages on the side now use the hacker news hotness algorithm
(p - 1) / (t + 2)^1.5

p = votes (points) from users
t = time since submission in hours
old implementation was making me want to cut myself

For the record, in this room, I'm starring the posts which are bugs/suggestions for the developers attention, and any posts which mention new functionality. This should actually make the starred list useful. [And I think you should all do the same :)]

Agreed, though that joke by Jeff was too funny not to star. :)

@GeorgeMarian, yeah, I find I'm wanting TWO types of star "useful", and "ROFL"
6

Yah, maybe a clapping icon?

Or this: rimshot

hehe...that needs to be oneboxed ;)

5:47 AM
@GeorgeMarian if you agree, star me ;)

Sure, why not.

Nah, I meant the one that starts "For the record" :) [having said that, it's up to you]

lol
I just assumed that as a matter of course when one of the devs mentioned that's what he did with one of my bug reports.

6:20 AM
What do you think about the low take-up of chat? I don't know if it's lack of interest, or whether it's the "everything's public" that puts people off... (chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/chats/message/58472)

@Benjol I dunno, where is it advertised?
If it's only on meta, than I think it's pretty decent.

@GeorgeMarian, meta, the blog. That's about all I guess. So only 'hardcore' users.

@Benjol Yah, it's pretty good then I think. I forget to check the blog and even meta.

@GeorgeMarian, re blogs, GoogleReader FTW :)

@Benjol Yah, I need to ge4t to organizing my feeds. I have a bunch of blogs saved on delicious. Now, I need to get them into GoogleReader and then remember to actually use it.
I installed Feedly, but I still don't use it often enough.

We need a faster way to switch between rooms.
Or tabs.

It used to be single-click to change to a room in the RHS window.

10:53 AM
yeah, and I'll be putting something like that back now

That'll save me a lot of clicks every day ;p

11:48 AM
@balpha, nice

@balpha Brilliant work. Nice implementation :)
Even better, right click new tab and it opens it for you if you want to split rooms. Way cool

12:02 PM
@Diago You could have done that previously, works with the other link as well

3 hours later…
3:00 PM
@balpha Never thought of right-clicking... Kept trying to ctrl+click, and that was blocked.
(but good work on the new link)

1 hour later…
4:08 PM
@Shog9 I always use the middle mouse button for "open in new tab", so I never noticed the Ctrl-Click issue. I'll fix that.

I do that when I have a mouse / trackball attached, but when I'm using my laptop Ctrl+Click is easier (doesn't require me to move both hands off the keyboard)

I be seeing errors on the ketchup page.

hey @george, there's a cat on your ketchup

@balpha That there be.
Also, the more rooms you're in the more annoying the ding is?

stupid just-in-time compiling of aspx pages :)

4:15 PM
ha

@GeorgeMarian yeah, that's on my radar; but it's non-trivial

Ok, as long as it's known and it's not me going crazy.

@GeorgeMarian You can always turn it down by clicking on the icon.

@Richard But how would I know when people are talking about me? ;)

@george I told the cat you don't like it. It's gone, but it looked very sad when it left.

4:25 PM
@GeorgeMarian you have to choose... and note the "*" in the title when someone has mentioned you (if room is not in focus)

@Richard Yah, but that requires that I pay attention. :)
@balpha If it's any consolation, I took a picture of the kittah for myself.

I just check from time to time across the tabs (as there are a few things that update from time to time).
Your own lack of attention I cannot comment on. :-)

Yah, I do that as well, but I prefer the sound feedback for things that I may need to reply to "quickly."
@Richard Even you did, doesn't mean I'd pay attention to it.

Does searching for content when said by a user not work?

why, what are you seeing?
(checking...)

Ahh, there is a dropdown because it goes by the number

Note that the user input box is has to resolve to the user-id (the auto-complete will help you do that). If it still had their name in, then no - it won't work.

Feature request: add a way to hide a particular message, just locally

@MarcGravell, I noticed that the recent page will return me @Ben as well as @Benjol (FWIW)
@MichaelMrozek, that'll be the guy humping his car? :)

7:35 PM
@Benjol Definitely possible

@Benjol if someone replies @Ben in a room you've been in, then just like on SO you are a valid target. Sorry.

@MarcGravell, no need to be sorry, just letting you know in case...
@MichaelMrozek, yeah, I came here to give my eyes a rest too :)

8:03 PM
hats off to the guys who created this chat, great job

on behalf of the team; thanks.
