one thing is very clear, now we gotta be very considerate of what people feel, and what it might mean to someone else, while posting a piece of plain text anywhere on SE network
I wonder if that was the source of what is mentioned in that blogpost as "hostile environment" towards minorities and women :/
...aaand just wow!
No system with downvoting, and close-as-duplicate (or "putting on hold") will ever truly be considered "welcoming". Nor should it be.
if you read this thread, he's got the solution right there
to the blogpost's concern of community being unwelcoming
hmm....finally something solid, which made me realize, that I was not wrong in thinking, that SE is going into wrong direction of changing the rules for newbies, in pursuit of a more welcoming place
Just FYI: I've gone back through the past few weeks of chat here on meta and removed a number of messages in this room and the Den. This is probably a good reminder that everyone is responsible for their own words, even if it doesn't seem like anyone's reading them.
As of yesterday, user1114 was a moderator on Stack Overflow. Today they are not. What happened?
(I am aware that nobody is obliged to answer this question, but this doesn't make it different from any other question, on meta or main. Someone might want to answer.)
@TheLittleNaruto well....I mostly stopped answering on SO, because of only answers I knew were to the low quality posts, and the better ones, I wasn't able to answer (this was like 4 years ago?). But, I think I might be able to find more reasons now
@DroidDev I can't answer android any more because 98% of it should be closed, and the remaining 2% either gets answered before I answer or is something I have no competence in xD
@PrincessLuna I don't like competing for upvotes. After all, its just my contribution to site (if I do it). Maybe I will start with bounty questions at some point in future
@PrincessLuna yeah, and I read that now chatrooms are also being closed

I don't think if I keep reading further, I can wait myself from blowing my head out
the basis of argument being made is, PEOPLE TWEETING ABOUT IT!!
....and all this talk about making it more inclusive for women and people of gender
I would really like to know how are you going to do that, and how are you going to ensure that it will be done without compromising the quality of institution and content
@TheLittleNaruto that doesn't help in the area of including more of women, and minority groups. That's more on the line of welcoming site
@PrincessLuna I am sorry if that's rude, but I can tell you from my personal experience. I grew up and am still living in the environment where reservation is supported by government as national policy (read "Reservation in India on wikipedia) and I can confirm from all of the government institutions' plight (who implement this reservation), that end product is not good.
SO provides equality of opportunity and that's what we should pursue
once you start pursuing equality of outcome, you are putting quality as tradeoff and we have history of full nation of second most populated land to prove that
@TheLittleNaruto that's a different topic. The question is more on the lines that welcoming site and offering inclusive environment for marginalised sections of society are two different things and shouldn't be approached in one blog post
