The fix should preserve tab -> shift+tab being a no-op – that is, shift+tab on the profile link should go to search help if nothing else changes. (I don't know how to make the web browser do such a thing.) — wizzwizz4 37 secs ago

Might it be indentation resulting from the fact that it's the beginning of a paragraph? If so the \noindent command can be used at the beginning of any paragraph where that is to be avoided. And before the \begin{document} line, you can put in \setlength{\parindent}{0mm} and also things like \setlength{\parskip}{12pt}, etc. — Michael Hardy 57 secs ago

There's little delay but I think we have an active enough group of people who close/flag that stuff here taken care of before the mods see it. I don't remember if a regular close/delete invalidates a spam flag tho — Journeyman Geek 17 secs ago

@Rosie only one of those things fits squarely into my understanding of what onboarding is: "guiding them through site norms". in the employee sense of the word, onboarding is not hiring, and hiring is not part of the onboarding process. onboarding is what a good company does after hiring someone. all I get from the blog is the vibe that SE thinks hiring is onboarding. It is not. — starball 50 secs ago

That is not spam. Here is the screenshot. It would be spam if the OP works for Facebook and try to promote it, but I highly doubt the OP is affiliated in any way with Facebook. It's just random noise, we get that sometimes here, and it should be just closed as off topic and deleted. — Shadow Wizard Love Zelda 41 secs ago

I think that people take losing so badly because elections are so very infrequent. On my home site there hasn't been one for nearly four years. On others it's more like 7-10 years. If you don't win, the chances that you'll still be active when the next one rolls around are really quite low, and that disheartens people. — Richard 29 secs ago

@Slate - These guys haven't had a competitive election for 9 years(!) That's practically an ice age in Internet time. I would imagine that their users simply don't think there will ever be an election. — Richard 14 secs ago

Very well said, especially concerning the onboarding. If the bars get any lower, I feel there will just be more moderation to do, meaning the workload of users who already voluntarily put time and effort into a community they (still) believe in will just increase, with little quality in return. Onboarding should make it easier to gain traction for those who join SE based on the merit of the platform, not because it was easy to sign up (to put it bluntly). — Joachim 36 secs ago

Management blocks even a rather minor April's Fools event. So I really can't see any way how they would ever allow a new community event of bigger scale. It just won't happen, and I'm not sure what's the point of this "question". I'd vote to close it as "does not appear to seek input and discussion" but it's meaningless. — Shadow Wizard Love Zelda 25 secs ago

@starball the post is long enough as is, and I think comments = requests for clarification, detail and evidence of research is a fair summary without entering into minutia. Thank you for the link by the way. — Mari-Lou A Слава Україні 17 secs ago
