@TheAmplitwist Yes, the links to springerlink.com are problematic. I do not know about any way to find out a working link from the old link alonw.
Looking at per-site-metas, I do not see many posts where such links are mentioned: one on MO meta, none on Mathematics Meta.
There are a few posts elsewhere, but in none of them this seems to be the main topic.
If you look in the MO editors' lounge, you can see that such links have been mentioned a few times .
