@Martin On MathOverflow, I found some posts that linked to springerlink.com that no longer work. Searching on MO Meta, I found this post where you had already observed this:

Q: What to do with links to arXiv front end?

Martin SleziakThere are quite a few posts which link to some paper at http://front.math.ucdavis.edu/ rather than directly at https://arxiv.org/ The front for arXiv at UC Davis seems to be down for some time. (I have noticed this on March 28.) You can find some such posts using search for url:"*front.math.ucda...

But that post was mainly about fixing arXiv links. Do you happen to know of any way to fix the springerlink ones?
The ID part in the link (the starred part in springerlink.com/content/*) is not really human readable. I've tried searching on the WayBack Machine, but none of the links I tried happened to be saved (perhaps none are). I tried changing the links to link.springer.com/article/* but that doesn't work either.
If the post author has given some hint as to the author/year/title of the linked paper, then it should be possible to search and replace the link I suppose... Unfortunately, it seems to be common to find the link behind just the words "here" or "this" :(
The final resort in such cases is to ping the author and let them know of the broken link, I guess.

Well, I found some posts that had the author/title and/or had a snapshot preserved on the WayBack Machine, so I've suggested some edits for now... With over 500 links to fix, this will be a long term project...
