@heather Cool. Makes sense. Thanks for sharing your views on this -- and if you have further thoughts (or if you choose a policy), I'd be interested to hear them. Thank you for listening to my long essay!

So, I've just read this and I also agree that we need to sit down and figure out a policy - we have a considerable overlap with physics, so what we currently have (as long as it's cross-linked, we won't close it) has pretty much been naturally hashed out over the past while between us and physics
What is worth mentioning is that there are two types of questions that get cross-posted and this is where things get more complicated - there are questions where the answers on different sites are going to be virtually the same, then there are other questions where mathematicians, computer scientists, physicists and engineers may all have vastly different answers/ways of answering.
The former is a standard cross-post that, yeah, should probably just get closed on whichever site it's not answered on
The latter though, is a different beast altogether and I would argue that, although the question could be exactly the same, the 'best answer criteria' are (more or less) different on the different sites (um, sort of), so in this case, while they should be linked for context etc. I don't think they should be closed
The problem to my mind is then differentiating between the two and agreeing on this differentiation process over a bunch of relevant sites

but i think you would also phrase your question differently for different perspectives @Mithrandir24601.
