hi?

Hey... probably not a good idea to ask but I can't resist... you probably know what I want to ask about? ;)

Yes, and pretty much its all on chat.

Just a quick question... was he suspended by you? I didn't see any button pushed this time.
Huh? Where on chat?
You mean pinging @Cat??

Well, the circumstances
ya
SO, what's not on chat?

Does it really deserve a month suspension on the main site??

8:09 AM
He's been warned so many times :/

I agree for chat ban, but man.... suspension for a month is really too much.

True, but chat bans have been ineffective

So he can be chat banned for a year. He's still very productive on the main site.
IMO it's too harsh...

true, but I don't want to have to suspend him at all

Any chance to reconsider, if it's your doing at all?

8:10 AM
So, here's my take on it
Sonic's clearly passionate
but that passion - if its risking burning out other people, crosses the line into obsession.

Passionate is wrong word. He suffers from sort of autism, causing him to be... fixated (?) on things.

If meta's feeding it - and a lot of the issue is with him trying to... make sense of meta, the time out might help

He can't change his core behavior, that's what I learned about him.

@ShadowWizard if he dosen't people leave.

@JourneymanGeek you mean those he pings? Well, if it really bothers them they can ignore, and like I said, worst case... chat ban for year, then another year, etc.

8:12 AM
So, when I suspend people, I consider it a personal failure in many cases.
@ShadowWizard people are too nice, and he ignores it a lot of the time.
and quite frankly, if he put 10% of the fixation he had with SE's mechanics to SE's culture, he'd probably be mod or CM material.
I'd love to find a compromise where we don't have multiple people feeling unhappy with someone's behaviour, and most attempts to fix it result in attempts to guilt trip us over his issues rather than even an attempt to change.
I've got someone with a similar condition on root access
he's a pain but he makes a clear attempt to adapt to us

Still... I feel we can get a lot from Sonic as a user on MSE and we should not link that to his chat activity, that's what chat bans are for.
If he starts abusing comments to ping then you're totally right, but until then...

eh. I guess the question is "What do I need to do to make him realise he needs to change?"

Also, didn't @Sonic and @Cat meet IRL at some point? This probably made him think they're friends and he felt like he can ping her any time.

Actually she has asked him not to a few times.

hmm... any point to invite her to this room? Or will I just waste my (and hers) time?

8:22 AM
I'd rather not, for reasons not public
I think there's a critical point I need to make here
basically we're in the odd situation where we community mods need to watch out for people who work here, the same way they would for us on the main sites.
this sometimes means, well, decisions like this
Assuming it was me, inviting her kinda defeats the purpose of making the decision. If it wasn't... well, its a very small subset of people who can make the decision, all of whom we can trust? ;p

Oh well, guess we'll leave it at that. I just hate to lose good people, and Sonic is good, as annoying as he can get sometimes.

Thank you.
