Hey look, sites are in read-only mode, but the chat still works.

When did the read-only mode start?

@b_jonas last couple of minutes

Ah.

@b_jonas chat is working with magic
Though bots are down, at least those using sockets

3:11 PM
Then that's why not everyone is complaining about the outage on chat yet.

!!/alive

@ShadowWizard Of course

huh?
@SmokeDetector why?

@ShadowWizard Why would bots be down?

@ShadowWizard That's not a report.

3:12 PM
@b_jonas using sockets, and thought sockets server is down too

@ShadowWizard Um, what kind of sockets?

Oh, all back now.
But I'm pretty sure @Smokey was dead while SE was down.

Grat, that was fast.

!!/status

@ShadowWizard Running since 13:05:28 UTC (127 minutes)

3:13 PM
Maybe nicael was on a rampage and they needed to stop all of SE to catch him?

hmm... interesting. @Pro how come @FOX crashed and Smokey didn't?
42
Q: Sockets used by Stack Overflow

Bhushan FirakeWhat kind of sockets does Stack Overflow use for the realtime reputation updates? Is it something like Netty-Jetty, Solr or SignalR? Are they using web sockets implemented in C#?

Same server also serves sockets used for chat

@ShadowWizard Those kinds of sockets. Ok.

44
A: How do the Stack Exchange WebSockets work? What are all the options you can send to them?

ManishearthWebsocket-endpoints (You can play with these on http://www.websocket.org/echo.html if you don't want to do it in JS) (wss://qa.sockets.stackexchange.com) <userid>-topbar: User topbar. <userid>-inbox: User inbox/achievements <siteid>-<userid>-reputation: User's rep on a site <siteid>-home-...

@b_jonas ^
Anyway, when SE was read only, I thought the sockets server was down too, not sure now.

@Jason OK now for a real challenge... something that will require every drop of skill you have... do something with @rene's avatar.... :-D

3:52 PM
Oh boy

@ShadowWizard Smokey doesn't report if it restarts, so maybe it did?

@ProgramFOX but I did !!/status and it said it's up for over 120 minutes.

@ShadowWizard @Derpy's avatar is looking pretty good.

@JasonC you won't dare...

@ShadowWizard sigh let me check the error logs

3:56 PM

@ShadowWizard Running since 13:05:28 UTC (170 minutes)

Wait until I get back to my computer. We shall see.

@JasonC sounds like you want to force @Derpy to ignore you? lol

Connection error with wordassociations.net, @ShadowWizard. Really, Smokey and FOX 9000 are such different bots that it doesn't make sense to compare crashes.

Ignoring me would be a mistake. I have so many important things to say.

3:57 PM
@ProgramFOX it makes sense when SE is down, so the likely cause is sockets problems

True. That's a rare case though :P

So it was just a pure coincidence the WAG site was down while SE was down? @Pro

@ShadowWizard And I was just going to say something along the lines of "I friendly suggest you avoid any attempt on my avatar"...

Lol

@ShadowWizard Unless you want a conspiracy theory, yes. ;P

3:59 PM
@Derpy which would cause our dear @Jason to go ahead and do it... but you know it, right? ;)
Best way to have your kids do something is saying "Hey, don't dare doing it!". :D

I should just make a ... doorknobbing app.

@ProgramFOX or some global DNS issue...
@JasonC hmm.... Doorknobyffing.

Similarly, the best way to get rid of old appliances is to put them on the side of the road with a "FOR SALE: $25 OBO" sign taped to it and wait.

@ShadowWizard shrug Everything is restored anyway.

@ProgramFOX until next crash. :)
!!/rev

Meh, crashes don't matter because the bots restart :P

Oh anything I put out on the sidewalk here is gone within minutes. I wouldn't even have a chance to make the sign.

@JasonC not in my place. Dogs poop can stay for long weeks on our sidewalks.

Dog poop does stay for weeks here too, I guess. It's not as useful as an old air conditioner.

@JasonC you'll be surprised..... :P

4:03 PM
Lol. Would I really be surprised?

/cc @Jason ^
@Sally why aren't you changing name on GitHub as well?

But can it power a time travelling delorean?

@JasonC try and let us know... ;)

I wonder why they don't highlight the fact that it probably works great with people poo too.

@JasonC maybe because most people won't poo on sidewalks?

4:06 PM
I don't follow that logic lol.

Me neither, so we're even. :D

I poop every day. Might as well charge my laptop off it.

How did it start? looking upwards

I wonder if I can get pants that do the conversion on the spot. Good way to charge my phone on the train.

@JasonC careful not to cause a power surge, in case your poop is too potent.

4:07 PM
Awkwardly efficient

@ShadowWizard I wouldn't recommend that, because changing your username on GitHub might have some side effects.

@ProgramFOX how come? What effects? It's just a display name...

@ShadowWizard Your username is not just your display name.
^ side effects

@ProgramFOX well, I meant to ask Sally why not change the display name only... unless GH doesn't support such a thing?

oh, you mean the "real name" thingy

4:19 PM
dunno, whatever it's called there. Not using GH myself. :)
Though Sally isn't @Sally's real name, most likely, so...
