@BrianNickel I'm finding some cool things I didn't know the app could do, and it's getting more user-friendly all the time. I appreciate how hard you're working. One issue continues to be an inability to have the app produce suggested questions while asking a new one.
That's on my list for this week. There were some major changes to the title search on the web that wasn't reflected in the API so we didn't have a good way to get similar questions.
Awesome! I think that will make a huge difference! I have a couple of other quick questions if you have a few minutes. Otherwise I can just leave them...
The list should auto populate even with one character. It just may take a while if your connection is slow. If you look in the top left corner of the screen by the wifi symbol when typing you should see a little network progress wheel spinning.
Let me validate on tablet.
Yep, both phone and tablet are doing tag searches on single characters.
I think if you're typing a couple characters in a short window it will cancel the previous search so if you type "ja" before the results for just "j" appear, you won't see them.
Hmmm, that's interesting. I'll play with it. Next-is there any way to access my review queues in the app? I have review privileges on GL but don't see a button anywhere.
@BrianNickel Ooops, I missed that meta question. I did find the one about the downvote button being too close to the accept button. Is that fix coming soon? I just did it the other day, but caught it in time!
Interesting-it seems to have been site-related. I changed to a different site and had no problem. Unfortunately I can't remember what site I was on, but I guess you'll see that in your reports.
Another biggie for me... Is there a way to reference a question inside the app? I can't find the url in order to link it. Am I missing something?
In the toolbar at then bottom of each question and answer (just above the user's name and rep) there's a "Share" button. You can use that to copy the URL.
Hey-the tag thingie worked! Thank you so much! One more then I'll leave you for now...
I do a lot of edits. I love the way you have the preview set up. I can't figure out how to "cancel." The choices are submit and back. Back leads to the question with a piece of paper icon which I've learned means there's an edit in progress, but I can't seem to just change my mind during the edit and choose cancel.
Oh, and speaking of edits-this is really picky... In the edit history (I know you're working on the order, thanks) the original question is marked "initial revision." That word revision makes it seem like something came before it. Can't that just be left off and the eye will be drawn to the right where it says "asked."
Alternatively, you could put "asked" or "answered" where it now says "initial revision."
@mhlester This doesn't mean we'll have no choice but to go to the app, right? With all due respect, I like to be able to choose, and find it incredibly frustrating when I "have" to use an app just because I have it.
I'm not sure what goes on on the web side. For older questions the first revision just has a blank string but now it's showing suggested tags. I'll have to look at what's new.
@mhlester That would make literally dozens of people so excited.
@BrianNickel Oh-I get it. These are just things we learn by asking, or playing! I must say, there are a lot of excellent hidden help messages that pop up as we go along.
Oh I get it. Instead of working on the app you have to switch to working on the web. Does that mean the functionality app-side is already implemented, and the issue is of how to expose the link on the web?
The app can deep link to a question. Right now that's what the Hot Question widget does and we also use it in Twitter.app.
Actually, whenever I need to check a specific question from a meta post, I just rewrite the URL to "se-zaphod://" and copy it into Mobile Safari in the simulator.
Cool. I'm watching your other discussion, which is more important at the moment, so no more questions for now! I'm really grateful to you, and excited by the changes. I'm using the app more often. Maybe some day we'll have the help center. Oh, and of course chat!
My son is a computer engineer, so I respect that you're working under the constraints of systems. If you ever need simple stuff, like proof-reading or entering text, I've been an editor for many years and would be happy to help. Maybe I could learn how you enter tips, and could help expand that section.
@mhlester Sounds excellent in that case-and I'm so excited to see you get a feature you've been waiting for! I'm sure it will help a lot of people! In case you're wondering, I did not downvote that question-just expressed my feelings in here!
The plan right now is to have a banner on question pages for opening in the app. I'm hoping in the future to have something smaller in the top bar similar to what Twitter has. Our goal is not to get everyone using mobile SE to switch to the app (mobile web in general is a bit different from the target audience of the app) but to make things easier for people who use the app but find a lot of SE content off the app.
Finding content off the app is definitely my use case. And half of that is email subscriptions (maybe those could be pushed to app too...). I'm thrilled to hear progress is being made thanks so much for the updates
