Oh. also @Gerry your domain name has nothing to do whether its https or not too
its entirely at the server level (and I use the same certs for my web server, and other things)
(I've been playing with letsencrypt)
in fact you can host http and https on the same server with the same content, or get it to redirect http to https (which you need to do in production)

user315433
Well. It's a good thing that I'm not hosting anything, then.

afaik, the issue here is that the code wasn't running on our server, so moving it to https would've been problematic. We could've (and did, for a time) leave it as http, an island in the growing sea of https, but that's not a great long-term plan.

12:39 AM
heh. I have a bunch of stuff for personal use I really need on the wider internet, and firefox is kinda naggy when you type passwords into non https sites ;p

@JasonC There's something to be said about people who hang around on meta looking for things to answer. There's something oddly pointless about it...yet some fools do it ;p

@JourneymanGeek It's one of the best tools in my procrastination toolbox.

;p
Though at some point I need to work out the etiquette of duplicates here.
On one hand, my answers get a ton of votes, so I suppose they are useful. On the other, so much stuff's dupes, I wonder if I should check before I answer rather than FGITWing em

ShadowWizard usually comes to the rescue for dupes.

2:30 AM
@TimStone Why is data.stackexchange.com/meta.stackexchange/query/… in JSON format and not in an actual table? This has always bothered me greatly.

user202362
cat json

2:48 AM
@JourneymanGeek data.stackexchange.com/meta.stackexchange/query/662754 probably displays number of dupe votes cast by users.
At least, as much as possible, given that questions closed for conflicting reasons still attribute the majority reason to all the closevoters.

@JasonC its less "its closed" and more "should I answer?" ;p
I mean, no one seems to mind of course

Well, I just wanted data to support my "ShadowWizard to the rescue" claim, lol.

Oh whoa
Has "next tag badge" always been displayed in the rep pane on the profile page?

@ShadowWizard Yes. I repcapped. On Meta.SE. O_O

@Stijn transgender symbol
Why does the /reputation page show repcapped events in [brackets]?

@Stijn what @Mithrandir said, I noticed it while looking for an icon on Font Awesome, lol. fontawesome.io/icon/mars-stroke
Funny they use "mars" instead of "male" too... :D
There are several icons for transgenders actually. Not fair, ordinary male got only one icon. :P
@Mithrandir what @Journeyman said is probably true, just to make it easier to distinguish.

@ShadowWizard there's a redicloulus amount of variety in gender-identification

Q: What does it mean the braces "[ ]" in the reputation summary?

@JourneymanGeek that's true... and it's all pretty new I guess, i.e. 20 years ago there were males and females, and that's it.
(officially, of course. :))

@ShadowWizard most of them were probably too scared to come out

@TimStone Is it completely impractical to allow people to create functions in SEDE (just like I can create procedures now)? Is there some way that can work or would it just completely break everything? (I don't really know how databases work.)

See Can we have functions in SEDE?. The answer being no because SQL Server doesn't have temporary functions, but @rene has a workaround that might help for certain tasks
RE: the JSON output of PostHistory, I have no idea why it's that way other than that I assume it's stored that way in the source data too
(there's variation in the types of banner notices so I guess that approach was just easiest)

Q: Wrong way on a bike lane?

npsantiniIs it OK to ride the opposite way on a designated bike lane? I'm in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. The reason I ask is because most of the lanes near me are only on one side of the road. The picture below is an example of the type of lane. The law where I live allows me to ride on the road, bike l...

user315433
@JeremyBanks Bike speed being in between cars and pedestrians, some people are unsure from where to take the rules when extrapolating. Pedestrians are advised to walk opposite traffic direction when there are no sidewalks.

so they can jump away from oncoming traffic. On a bike this becomes already impossible.

Q: Why is 👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 treated so strangely in Swift strings?

Ben LeggieroI must start out by saying that I know how strange "👩‍👩‍👧‍👦" is (family with two women, one girl, and one boy). This is encoded as such: U+1F469 WOMAN, ‍U+200D ZWJ, U+1F469 WOMAN, U+200D ZWJ, U+1F467 GIRL, U+200D ZWJ, U+1F466 BOY So it's very interestingly-encoded; the perfect target for a ...

8:16 PM
@JasonC I'm not sure what you hope to achieve but running a function in a where clause will cause a full table scan. Don't expect records from PostHistory on SO in that case.

user315433
@Elephant A comment asserts that the question is interesting. I investigated: there are 195 interesting questions on SO.

user315433
I expected more... perhaps this is a kind of comments that Andy's bot picks up on.

8:53 PM
@rene Oh interesting. Well I found a better way to do what I wanted without a procedure/function at all. I wanted to parse image links out of a string, and I knew how to do it with a recursive cte for a scalar input, but I wanted to do it for every row in a query.
And I knew that I could do cross apply like with e.g. split_string so I was trying to make something that took a string input and returned a table.
But it turns out the entire thing can be built into the recursive query. I didn't realize it would behave properly with multiple rows as the initial condition.
So
Yay
(the root of this is i needed a split_string that took a string as a delimiter instead of a single char).

user315433
Are you trying to parse JSON in SQL?

No, even better, parsing html

@ShadowWizard I forget if you can ping close voters on a closed question, so...
@Sha slightly different -- that one wants the full wikis in the apps (which is also a good idea); this one asks for the wiki excerpts when asking/editing a question. — Shokhet 1 min ago

@Shokhet you can ping only the last, or the single user who closed in case of moderator or hammer wielder... :)

How do you tell if a post was made by a registered vs unregistered user in sede?

But yeah, got your ping there. Faster than here, as it takes 15 minutes until it becomes a notification. :)

Q: No notification for comment reply when using Dupe Hammer along with other close voters

Shadow WizardUser who cast a binding close vote on a question should be notified when someone comment-reply him/her, even without ever leaving a comment. ...@ShadowWizard, how does a non-CM/employee get a gold star in , anyway?
...you're not even a top 20 answerer for the tag :0
But you are the #5 all time asker.

@Shokhet By making a lot of demands, lol
And also politely telling people "your feature request sucks, do this instead".

@JasonC Not really. Unless I'm mistaken, don't tag badges only take # of answers into account?
@JasonC More likely.

It's an impressive badge

10:16 PM
...make that "a lot of people."
@JasonC Certainly.

I'm about half way to a silver discussion badge, that's all I got. Long way to go.

Nice.

I had the gold feature-request badge before I ever got hired. The gold bug badge was the only one I was missing.

Wow. (Does that mean that @ShadowWizard is a candidate for hiring?)

The gold stackoverflow badge on MSE has kind of a legendary quality to it. I don't think anybody will ever get one again. Or even silver ones.

10:21 PM

@Shokhet Yes that's how the SE hiring system works, so I hear. You don't actually have to apply. You don't even have to want to work there. Once you get a certain number of gold badges they send in the drones to grab you and ship you off to the... "re-education center" for programming and reconditioning.
Yeah

@JasonC I shall find a way! I'm over half way towards it.

@JasonC ...would be hard to get, anyway. Right now, most questions should be posted on MSO, right?
@JasonC Lol :)

@animuson Ha, I dunno, man. That's a bold mission.

I should answer more review questions. I already have the score required for gold, just not the # of answers... :P

10:25 PM
@Shokhet Lol, I'm picturing a group of old guys (possibly only their heads, in giant glass tubes, lots of fog) sitting around in a hidden room under the subway tunnels in manhattan watching the badges, speaking in slow, excessively reverbed voices. "We have a candidate." "Who are they?" "152859" "Excellent"
