Where's @Bart with that smiting stick.
I gambled at a casino this weekend. I lost money.
Probably somewhere around $100. But it was a fun time all in all.

1:05 AM
maybe not... what is the best place for discussion issues about meta? Is it meta?

1:27 AM
@LaszloPapp I would think that meta is the place to discuss issues about meta.
Although when I'm in a joking mood:
Actually, this question should have been asked on meta.meta.stackexchange.com. — Louis 3 hours ago

2:00 AM
@Bart: "The OP requested to have the question deleted so we did " -> re Brad's delete. I think it is not good enough reasoning if the content is valid. What next? Bring up on meta or flag it again to reply?

2 hours later…
4:29 AM
@LaszloPapp I haven't heard Brad say, but IMO that question could be legitimately judged off-topic for SO. It's really not about programming, it's about installing stuff on Linux. I could easily see that Q on Unix & Linux.
@hichris123 sorry I missed you - what's up?

4:44 AM
@BenCollins: Eh?
I think you are talking about a different question.

one from yesterday, iirc

1 hour later…
6:02 AM
is it possible to make a line in code notation bold? I only get the double stars around without actually getting interpreted as bold.

@LaszloPapp not in chat
you can put bold around code

0
A: Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64: cv::CascadeClassifier::CascadeClassifier()

Laszlo PappYou will need to extend the LIBS variable in your project file as follows because the cv:CascadeClassifier can be found in that library: LIBS += -L/usr/local/Cellar/opencv/2.4.6.1/lib \ -lopencv_core \ -lopencv_imgproc \ -lopencv_features2d \ -lopencv_highgui \ -lopencv_objde...

I wanted to make the last line bold instead of comment.

not possible

ok, thanks.

Morning...

6:16 AM
hi rene.

This question is also on askubuntu meta.stackexchange.com/questions/231824/…
Can someone dv it over there?

is it possible to see some stats about answered/accepted rate?
dv as in downvote or delete vote?

downvote

done

I thought we agreed that delv was delete vote and dv was downvote?

6:18 AM
really?

@LaszloPapp Your own or from a user?
@LaszloPapp I recall seeing someone point that out in this room a couple of days ago

I am currently interested in my stats for the moment, but it could be interesting to see for any person, or even top10 like for scores, etc.

Mar 30 at 14:27, by Doorknob
@ShadowWizard delv = deletevote

ok, I think I was not online, but I can get used to it. :)
@rene: in addition, I would like to filter it for a certain tag for now
but there could be further filters, like for the last X days.

6:40 AM
Was I summoned? ;)

@ShadowWizard A reply to you was quoted

@JanDvorak yup I wasn't notified, but it still appears with reddish background :)

That is by-design, I guess :-)

@JanDvorak Agreed!
If @rene also agree then it's a really good start for a new day :D
Looks like rene is sleepy so here's something to wake you up!

sorry I'm only on my second coffee

6:51 AM
@rene me too. Finished already.
So, you agree about reddish background in quote being by design?

I do not agree, nor disagree.

or putting this into a statement:
!(agree) && !(!agree))

no icecream in that case

@ShadowWizard: no, I prefer functional style to imperative ;-)

7:40 AM
Why so quiet? Did I scare everyone away? :P

yep...

@LaszloPapp Give this a try...
@ShadowWizard Now I'm scared...
I'm off to the woods for a hike, cya

@rene: thanks.

@rene lucky you! Beware of the bears! :D

trivial edit, followed by an undownvote
on a post that didn't deserve an undownvote

9:10 AM
@JanDvorak it's not a BAD answer, just not a good one.
-4 is too harsh IMO, though I wouldn't undo my downvote just because of that
Anyway answer author deleted it all by himself

it is merely a style change, thus incorrect

Is Simmel Theory a phone operator?

thats a really odd off topic question

From a user who has been active for a while.

seems to have asked the same question on MSE too

12:10 PM
I highly doubt this can be challenged but is the wording all right? meta.askubuntu.com/a/9134/169736

Besides some language problems it seems fine @Braiam

thanks

12:38 PM
@Mat well, he asked on MSE first
@rene what are you doing here? Shouldn't you now be in the woods?! ;)

I'm off to the woods for a hike, cya

I returned safely
It was a high-tempo hike :-)

Oh, so quick! Glad you enjoyed
Some go to church, some go hiking. Go figure! :D

:)

Can anybody explain why the tag count for close votes seems rather high here
given the fact that we have around 7,447 questions in the queue?

12:51 PM
Do we see the full number of questions in the queue currently?
No more fuzzying going on?

yup

No more fuzzying afaik

now they are dequeued fast

Yes but I would expect that would be reflected in the SEDE query...
Huh? The data is updated early every Monday morning around 3:00 UTC. The last update was 7 hours ago.

OMG I got to get to work then!

12:54 PM
Same feeling here
I know timezones are hard to get right but I'm pretty sure 7 hours ago it was not Monday anywhere on this planet...
The 7 hours ago is also on the frontpage of data.se so this is a recent dump...
oh wait... a question can have multiple votes...
1/3 down, looks better now...

@ShadowWizard heh, nice trick there

@ShadowWizard That is good to know. So I'm not looking at a dump from 3 weeks ago...

@rene nope, it's really fresh.
wow suggested edit was active for over 16 minutes stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/4840360
Since the top bar number showing all review actions, looks like the suggested edits get much less attention

1:12 PM
@ShadowWizard what is shallow clone?
I saw that @rene ¬_¬

I just looked at the question and then did a Duh...

rene == Hommer D:

@Braiam it's common in git, I remember seeing it before and double checked in Google that it's valid
(think it means depth 1 clone)

yeah, but do we need a tag for that?

@Braiam dunno, I saw the tag already exists so it means it got some use
Not my place to decide to nuke such a tag
Anyway edit looked to improve the title and that was enough, considering it didn't mess anything else. :)

Thanks for your help :) but I still have a few question. I have designed a user interface first, whic is called myclass.ui. The push button inside that interface is called pushButton_1. The function example() that I want to run with for instance parameter 7 is in main.cpp. Could you please outline the steps that I should make to run that when clicked? Should I add code such as yours to a new cpp file or to a new header file? Is there a way so that when I enter Qt designer that I can just select the function example(int n) from the list of slots? — student441 32 secs ago
oh, thanks, but I still have a few questions... yeah, right, and student account ... :)

Q: Can we query SEDE for the actual number of questions per tag in the close vote queue?

reneI used the following query Close votes per tag in the glory days of the close vote queue. During the fuzzying I used the query to keep a sense of the actual number of questions with a close vote in the queue. Under the new regime I expected the outcome of my query to be close to the actual nu...

the master asks for help?

I suspect not all data is available...
I think i need the expiration of close votes as well but I'm not sure how to get those...
As I see it know that query shows the realnumber of close votes...

3:37 PM
BTW, to whoever downvoted is saying that the quality of the answers doesn't matter. You sir are the worst. — Braiam 2 mins ago
was I too harsh?

Yep

was it needed?

I'd say not

3:55 PM
I like to think that people is normally not aware of the implications of their decisions, so I need to remember them

who did you screw with this time @Laszlo? :P

no idea....
ei idea, says the Finn.
ok, I am off to rehearsal.... do not stop until 100-200 downvotes pls ;)

@LaszloPapp Only three :-( I've seen better ones from you

well, the last 38 one was dealt rather harsh :P

4:09 PM
@LaszloPapp in this I don't get how m_Image is initialized. Is that Qt magic?

What is strange about it @rene?

Mat
Hum, typo in the constructor initialization list, should be m_image

Yeah

I assume all members should be initialzed somewhere?

m_Image isn't a pointer.

4:12 PM
Ah...

4:25 PM
@rene still around?
(or anyone)

@hichris123 rejected yay!

@Bart Eeek!

that ^^^^
Who leaves a comment?
Mat did...

Mat
4:40 PM
WTF? PubCenter, but no beer involved?

Obviously... may be you should ask the OP where the beer is?

5:05 PM
I reached the 10K mark in the close vote queue. Who said gamification doesn't work?

can someone edit these user titles stackoverflow.com/users/3449638/tomdev?

You mean the titles of the questions right? @Braiam

uh, yeah

fixed
What do you expect instead? That we spoon-feed you? — rene 10 secs ago

@hichris123 I commented on your comment...
and cv those questions
Hmmm, Bart left a more balanced comment than I did...

@rene I don't think dequeuing would be reflected in the database, because right now you're using the PendingFlags table. The way that table works is 1) it stores all flags-to-close. Those never age, so they stay around for forever. Also, votes to close are stored in that table, and those do age away, but I'm not sure if they stay in that table forever or what. However, for both of those: ageing != dequeing. If something is dequeued, it doesn't mean all the votes are aged away. — hichris123 10 secs ago
@rene ^

6:35 PM
So that would mean I have to do the dequeing logic in my query....

I believe so.

Something that was easy has now become impossible...
What is this for kind of improvement? :-)

7:12 PM
anyone knows how to view when a close vote was casted (not the exact moment, but day)?

7:35 PM
(redacted)

Which post do you want to know that?

questions, not deleted. I know how to count them but not when

In SEDE?

yeah, I don't see another way

It depends on the state of the question. If it is still open you can query Votes which has a creationdate
If it is closed you can only find who voted in the PostHistory table but not when they voted
And then there is the new pendingflags table should replace what is in votes for new questions..i think...

@Bart and @rene, yeah @Mat is right. It is a misuse. Feel free to fix it.
@rene: you meant "QVBoxLayout *layout;" instead of the label line?

Yes

copy/paste issue, thanks.
feel free to fix it.

I rather not...I don't really grasp what is going on...

ok, I will fix it in a short while after the tea, then.
@rene: yes, only 3 downvotes are not for real men.... I can do better...
Your fix suggestion in the text and the actual fix seems to differ. is that on purpose? — rene 4 hours ago
@rene, you can remove that comment now, thanks again.

8:03 PM
I will

or you can leave it there, too, fine for me. It is fixed now.
@Bart, @rene, @Mat: fixed the typo here, thanks: stackoverflow.com/a/23165043/2682142

You changed it for another typo. :p
Yay, now it's fixed. :D

any typo, copy/paste issue or anything else in here? stackoverflow.com/a/23166387/2682142
this was the third downvoted.
the bolding code is pretty ugly and make it uncopy/pasteable to be fair.
too bad SO does not have such a feature :(
one is obliged to leave comments in the code which I personally dislike.

yeah

Ouch, yeah, I would change it for a comment @LaszloPapp.

8:08 PM
the problem with comment is that it will be ugly, too, since the OP had lots of comment in there already
so if anything, it should probably be a shouting comment.

Legitimate all caps :)

@rene, @Bart, please check
I am not sure if it is better with CAPS. To me, it is less appearing.
here is the link again for convenience: stackoverflow.com/questions/23160959/…

cough saveFile cough

I definitely think bold code would make a lot of sense to add.

8:12 PM
Ah, and you forgot another line above

@ɥʇǝS tango down

@Bart: I fixed all those, but first I wanted to demonstrate the difference on one line.
I do not think it makes it much better, but yeah.
why don't we have bold code feature? What can be the objection against that?

Hey, at least now I don't have to downvote you without a comment.

Is this // Ask the user where he/she wants to save the file true?
I don't see a QFileDialog in saveFile?

@LaszloPapp <code><b></b></code> :(

8:14 PM
nope, that should be deleted.

It has been proposed before @LaszloPapp. It gets tricky fast with markdown elements also being valid code.

actually <pre><code><b></b></code></pre>

@rene: added some comment that it was removed.
it is better than just silently removing it, because that does not make it look conscious... could be a mistake.
@Braiam: I tried the tool buttons, but they did not work.

Without any Qt knowledge it now looks fine to me...

btw, my plan is to get my posts downvoted with a puppet and ask for pity upvotes, and then remove the downvotes with the puppet.

8:16 PM
Well, that worked today...

Mat
Your receive code doesn't seem to match your send code - you're not dealing with the filename or your "d/f" tokens, @LaszloPapp

@LaszloPapp totally evil!

That's actually his middle name @Braiam

Mat
And that d/f token thing can't work, you need to send at least the filename length

@Mat: that is intentional, because I did not mean to write the whole project for the OP
in the save method, you already got the data and file name, so that method is fine, the parsing should happen in the caller.

Mat
8:20 PM
That's just not possible if you don't send the filename length (or use an object stream that does it for you)

right, size is necessary because the data can be binary.
so the size is necessary for the data (not for the filename though if it is \0 terminated).
arguably, one would send everything through as binary, including the file name, but it is an overkill for demonstrating the idea for the OP.
@Mat: check the update.

Mat
Workable. Passing the string length is easier to manage on the receiver though. You don't really need d/f anymore either.

yeah, if you hard code the order, you do not.
@Mat: Updated the text that it could be dropped in case of hard coding.
thanks.
@Bart: now you can remove your serial downvotes ;-P

8:37 PM
Unfortunately I have long since lost control over my sockpuppets. The bastards.

wait, what.... I got a comment upvote for a critic? Seriously?!?!
cannot cannot cannot and cannot believe.
people not jumping on me for critics!
Is there any reason why I am not getting notified about upvotes at times, provided I have not run out of the daily cap?

@LaszloPapp cw? meta?

SO, not cw.

8:52 PM
counteracted by five unread downvotes?

lol

the -## are more than the +##

Do the websockets still work? I'm not getting any response from SO when connecting with websocket.org/echo.html to wss://qa.sockets.stackexchange.com and sending 1-questions-newest

@JeroenVannevel SO doesn't have a websocket for -newest
Too much traffic

aha, I see
Works with some other commands, cheers
although: can I request the topbar/inbox from a user without doing anything else?
Oh wait, it probably only notifies you when something new happens
no?

@JeroenVannevel http://stackoverflow.com/topbar/inbox
http://stackoverflow.com/topbar/achievements

Sorry, I was referring to the websocket option (<userid>-inbox).

> can I request the topbar/inbox from a user without doing anything else
?

11:55 PM
@Doorknob Using that command (in my case 1864167-topbar) I am supposed to be able to get the 'topbar' (not sure what this entails) from the given user, right? Do you need to authenticate anything or is it only public data that's being shown?

Um. Not sure.
Hang on, let me find the MSE post
21
A: How do the Stack Exchange WebSockets work? What are all the options you can send to them?

ManishearthWebsocket-endpoints (You can play with these on http://www.websocket.org/echo.html if you don't want to do it in JS) (wss://qa.sockets.stackexchange.com) <userid>-topbar: User topbar. <userid>-inbox: User inbox/achievements <siteid>-<userid>-reputation: User's rep on a site <siteid>-home-...

... "User's topbar" not particularly helpful

Yeah, I'm basing myself on that post
I sent both 1864167-inbox and 1864167-topbar and twice I have received the response {"action":"hb","data":"hb"}
