It is a three-day weekend @Doorknob. :P That's why I'm working on my Android app...
@Undo Is the user gone?

Ah, okay...
Yay, 250 CV reviews!

The only two review queue's I haven't done 250 in are Late Answers and Reopen Votes...

Yeah, those two are low-volume

I just reviewed stuff that had comments by you @Undo. :P

@Undo Wha? Why...?

For whoever flagged that, flags are serious business. People can get banned.

Oh, probably b.c I asked similiar like 4 other times in the last 24 hours.. but it's not like I'm over doing it, I just figured there would be NEW PEOPLE in the chat.. but I guess not if someone flagged it

Anyway, I'm marking it invalid.

1:08 AM
I'm not sure how flags work in chat

@LowerClassOverflowian not very well.
@LowerClassOverflowian Yeah, you're fine.

@LowerClassOverflowian Even so... (to whomever flagged it), that's not how flags work... flags are for offensive stuff, not just repetition.

Wait what? I flagged that?

@Bart Since you're new? :P

It seems to be my flag

1:14 AM
Erm... cough

Doesn't that ask for a confirmation?

@Bart yes

Well, I did once vote to close my own question by accident

1:15 AM
@Bart Um... THE MODS!!! THEY'RE ATTACKING!

Hmm, you're sure it asks for a confirmation? I'm tempted to try and see, but don't want to flag something else. :D

@Bart Yeah, it does.

Anyway, mark as invalid please

I did

See, and people ask me why I don't run for mod

1:16 AM
Soo.... maybe change your passwords and reset your cookies?

Oh no, I'm pretty sure it was me
I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts, so stupid stuff like this has happened before. Mashing buttons too fast, being too impatient

I blame.... Shog on this.

I'll accept anything that diverts blame away from me. Though Shog might not be the best choice there. He has tools, and access, and the means to do things.

A: Regards to account deletion + Security

UndoYou can only self-delete your account if you have next to zero activity. If you have any posts on the site, you can't self-delete. So most of your points are invalid. And remember: log out of public computers when you're done.

But... the wheel of blame told me to blame him!

1:19 AM
^^ This scares the crap out of me.
> And to make everyone safe in this website, members should constantly remind users to install antivirus/antimalware software.
NOOOOOOO!

Are you hinting at me that I'm so stupid I would actually accidentally delete my account @Undo?

@Bart If you mash your keyboard hard enough to change your profile about me to 'please delete me' and then flag one of your posts with the right custom flag... you need to slow down.

@Undo Did animuson hammer that one?

@hichris123 Nope... Community did (?)

Um... why?

1:22 AM
I have no idea.

Check the account.

I doubt people spam flagged it.
@hichris123 It's gone.
I lost 30 rep on it ;(

@Undo Then that's why... deleted accounts take away their questions if they're new... or something...

No - when a mod destroys an account it nukes the posts too. Deletions just nuke the user.

1:24 AM
@Undo sigh So confusing.

@hichris123 Have you read the mod FAQ yet?

I think that if someone with over 1k rep asks for their account to be closed, that it should be "fake closed" for 30 days (keeping everything the same, but where if the user wants to access it just like it was before, they still can within those 30 days)... A recent example would be that H20K or whatever his name is that ran for mod but then asked to delete his acct

@LowerClassOverflowian They actually do that.
IIRC they keep the account for a week with a big button the user can press to come back.

@Undo ?

Anyway, I think they are indeed not real comments @LowerClassOverflowian. There was a Meta post on that, related to them lacking a link to the nomination and such in your activity history. That was some elections ago.

Thanks @Bart .. Yea this is my first election. Kind of a good coincidence that I chose my current nick like the day before I knew there was an election and before it started. I somehow got the pundit badge on meta.. but it's been tough on SO, so I was hoping they would count.

I think Tim Stone might be able to confirm (or deny) so don't take my word for it 100%. I unfortunately can't find the post I'm thinking of. Maybe it was just a comment somewhere.
And tough on SO? How so @Lower? You seem to be doing fine?

Well, I've left 665 comments, and only have 5 with a score of 5 or higher. And you need 10 with 5 or higher for the pundit badge.

Meh, it will come with time.

Q: Should users be given a chance to correct their old answers before flagging?

Benjamin GruenbaumShould users be given a chance to correct their old answers before flagging? I've been having a (too meta admittedly) with another user on this answer which is a 3 years old answer by Darin Dimitrov. We disagree on whether or not old link only answers should be flagged immediately or a grace pe...

@LaszloPapp ^

@BenjaminGruenbaum: I am not much interested in the arguing.

@LaszloPapp it's not an argument it's discussion.

It has already been discussed, and others flagged and downvoted it, so I followed others. What you are doing is demotivating, basically arguing over a tiny nuance. This is not productive in my opinion, and hence I will not be part of it. It is not a big deal either way, and just arguing about it needlessly is noise in my opinion. Surely, there are better things to do? But yes, go ahead and discuss it to dead if you wish, I will be helpful at cleanup in another many posts in the meantime.

9:46 AM
@LaszloPapp I can't make you be a part of anything. It's not about demotivating, it's about learning how to moderate this site better. If we don't flag old link only answers first thing but instead give authors a chance to improve first - the problem solves itself.
Also, I don't get what's 'demotivating' about it. Building a high quality Q&A site means discussing policy as a community every once in a while.
In case that wasn't obvious, I'm not 'blaming' you for anything and I do appreciate the hard work you've been doing in the flag queue. Just because we disagree doesn't mean I don't appreciate your effort..

I do not feel any appreciation in your act. You keep arguing about such nuances, IMHO. It makes people less welcome to do what they are doing, and really, what (big) problem are you trying to solve? A deleted post can be undeleted anytime, and as I wrote, even Jon Skeet's post got deleted in no time, it was discussed here, etc.

@LaszloPapp you don't have to 'feel appreciation' in my act, it's not an 'appreciative' act. The reason I'm discussing these is in order to better the site - not show apprecation. Reducing the work-load of mods is an important goal in my humble opinion.

Yet, you are increasing by discussing nuances for long which can be managed in one click or two.

Like you said, Jon Skeet is not special in that regard, he doesn't get to post link only answers and get away with it (we agree on that). what I believe is that people should be given a chance to correct old answers that were once considered acceptable.

This is not the first time today, and so far everyone I saw was disagreeing with you with the other posts you have made.

9:51 AM
@LaszloPapp site policy is not something that can be managed in one click or two. The queue is filled with way too many invalid flags.
@LaszloPapp yet I haven't had an invalid flag in months, so apparently someone is agreeing with me
Note I validated the vast majority of your flags, I only commented on ones I disagreed with.

They do get a chance. It is called undeletion. In fact, when rules change, they are supposed to maintain their post accordingly.

[ SmokeDetector ] All-caps title: PROBABILITIES PICK 3 LOTTERY on math.stackexchange.com

I wouldn't have any issue with delete voting that post, it's flagging it and bringing it to the queue that's bothering me.
I opened that thread so we can voice our (conflicting) opinions on this and get feedback - I would really appreciate it if you post your reasons for the other site on that meta post where everyone can read them.
@Manishearth lol @ detecting the word 'lottery'

no, your act is demotivating to me, and I will actually stop helping now with flagging.

@LaszloPapp I'm sorry you feel that way. I just want you to know that I do appreciate your help.

9:56 AM
Besides the needless argument, what does not make sense is even upvoting just because someone disagrees. That is just ... unprofessional.

I'm sorry you feel that way and you are welcome to post your arguments on the meta thread where the community can agree or disagree with them.

Upvoting a primitive answer technically, just to get your argument accepted more is way unprofessional, and it is amongst the reasons why H2CO3 deleted his account which is very sad for the site.
even if someone disagrees with deletion, this is way a poor answer to get downvoted by any party involved.

H2CO3 deleted his profile because he did not distinguish between appreciation of his work answering stuff and disagreement with his conduct in answers and being somewhat rude.
I liked that guy.

No, he did not.

@LaszloPapp I don't disagree with deletion, I disagree with flagging it - flagging fills up the queue.

10:01 AM
He deleted his account because of unprofessional acts of voting for no technical reasons. He did not wanna work with arguing and unreasonable "children".

@LaszloPapp oh, you mean being downvoted? Yeah, those people were a**holes.
Downvoting an answer because you like or don't like someone is a big no no imo.

No matter what, this very poor "answer" got an upvote after flagging, and it seems people give more upvotes for the meta discussion than my initial comment, whereas the former is clearly useful, right?
Anyway, I am off from this... I do not care much about it either way, and I will probably keep flagging these anyways (alongside many others), so nothing will change.

@LaszloPapp voting works differently on meta, it indicates agreement and disagreement and not usefulness/lack of. This is why I think you should voice your opinion on the meta post.

no one was talking about meta votes....

Well, I'm sad you feel like I'm not respecting your help and I hope you reconsider your stance in retrospect.

10:12 AM
maybe I should delete my account, too.

@LaszloPapp am I supposed to feel sorry for you now?

No, it is perfectly reasonable people having different opinions. Fwiw, the answer did get deleted in no time.
thanks to the flaggings. Happy? You were fine with deletion, so I guess all settled now?

Maybe I have been articulating poorly here, my primary concern is the fact that flagging these sort of questions bloats the queue. Deleting them is perfectly ok in my opinion.

How do you think such old primitive posts will get attention out of the thin air?

It's really about policy and not about that particular question and I really don't understand why you see this as a personal attack and not as discussion.
In this case? It was deleted because of meta attention.

10:22 AM
:D
How do you really know that?
Moreover, do you seriously want to get every such posts through meta, rather than flagging, and I mean... you talk about reducing the workload? The flag exists for a reason, and I really do not see the problem with "queuing up the flags". They do help to get attention for deleting poor posts, and here is the practical example.

No, I don't want to get every such post through meta. I just wanted a clear policy on how to act when I run into these questions in the future.

as the example shows: flag -> delete.
well, examples the last few days when you keep arguing about my actions. Not sure if you do this to others, too

I think it's comment -> wait 24 hours -> flag -> delete where it stops after the first stage in most cases.
@LaszloPapp I do :P
I'm quite an annoying person when I don't understand something.

wait 24 hours -> unreasonable to me, really.
we cannot book keep millions of posts like that.
we will leave LOTS of, and I mean LOTS of posts around that way.

star them, after 24 hours unstar them and flag imo. Again, I think you should make this argument in the meta post (deletion/undeletion, extra book keeping causing more posts, etc).

10:26 AM
the author can always request undeletion when the post is edited, and that is ensuring that it actually comes back, without leaving mess around.
I dislike meta. I do not think it is the right place for discussion. You will need to accept my opinion about it.

Only a mod can undelete a post deleted by a mod so this means two flags for something that could have been resolved by an edit by the author

except that these posts are usually deleted without moderator intevention since they are so poor that 20K+ or even 20K- get the consensus of purging them.

"Usually" , I wonder if we can get statistics on that, hmmm. I suck with SO's sql like queries.

I can show at least 5-10 such posts from the near past which were deleted by modulo approval of 20K+ users.

Data that shows the vast majority of flags in the NAA queue are handled by users deleting posts rather than mods deleting posts would definitely convince me.

10:31 AM
that is why the 20K+ users got that privilege, right?
to help out the moderators....
Like I said, many times even 20K- users can help with such poor posts easily if it is flagged VLQ.

Well, I got to go - but this was a nice discussion, I'll ping some random people and see if they can fetch the data.

perhaps you should have done that prior to going to meta?
now people will read this there: OMG, lpapp the CRUEL MONSTER, not giving any chance to a poor 500k user. :-)
At least, you could have made it clear it is about your thought of moderators deleting (and acting) more than 20K+ users, in which case the problem is not the flagging, but the system that 20K+ is too high if it does not achieve its intended goal.
The system, IMHO, should provide an option to get attention to 20K+ users without distracting moderators.

Strange. Works on meta (e.g. meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/221370/…)

@JeroenVannevel It sometimes only appears after refreshing the page
It's possible that someone already flagged/voted to close it and deleted their comment, which could in theory prevent another one from popping up for the same question
That seems far fetched though

Q: Auto generated close as dupe comment appears only after a full reload

Shadow WizardI just cast a close as dupe vote on a question here on Meta. In the past it used to push the auto generated comment live but now I can't see my comment after voting, only after I reload the page. Can we get the old behavior back please? :) Feel free to vote to close as dupe of some random quest...

It worked again for a short while after I posted it then stopped again. As of now it's not working, 100% of the times at least for me.

Two new Jeff Atwoods in the last few days: one and two. Both of course claiming they're innocent and that's just their real life name but hard to believe it's coincidence. More likely trolling. Too bad we can't prove that!

One day I'm going to change my name to Jeff Atwood just to troll you guys

@ShadowWizard those are actually the same person. Part of a huge string of now deleted accounts.
I guess he has been given the benefit of the doubt for now.

@ShadowWizard fun fact, most people who visit SO don't know who Jeff Atwood is.
Hey, can anyone help me with the data (who actually deletes most questions in the queue) for this: meta.stackoverflow.com/q/221361/210016 ?

@BenjaminGruenbaum that's very sad!
