Is it appropriate to ask "why was question x deleted?" on meta?

Depends on why the question was deleted.

it only says "deleted for reasons of moderation"

Well, that's not very informative ;) I meant, if it was a crap question downvoted into oblivion, it's not appropriate to ask, because it's obvious. If it was a flame-fest: obvious, don't ask. If you're not aware of any pressing reason, go ahead and ask, it's perfectly appropriate, @KevinDuke

This question has a title containing three hyphens, a word and three more hyphens, with no spaces. It displays as three hyphens followed by the word followed by an em dash. However, when you hit "edit" and then "cancel," the em dash becomes three hyphens. I thought about submitting this as a bug, and then decided it wasn't one, but it is kind of weird.

stackoverflow.com/faq is a dev thing, meta.stackoverflow.com/tagged/faq can be edited by anyone, most Stack Exchange sites have a section of the FAQ that can be edited by moderators.

Then there are the tag wikis and /privileges pages, which aren't exactly FAQs but can be edited on Meta.SO and then propagated by devs.

Oh, and the chat FAQ. That's a dev thing.
