1:11 AM
Evening.

1:41 AM
@TimStone Nice!

@jadarnel27 Yo.

WORD

Hey, we're all here.
Well, revision:
Hey, some people are here.

@Moshe Hallo

1:59 AM
Hey, my app's season started last night and I already got two support emails.
waves unenthusiastic flag

2:19 AM
@Lix I just realised that I forgot to uninstall my autoreply script and rever to balpha's original one :/

2:32 AM
@Moshe Off to a good start then =P
@mootinator UP

Everybody say...?

Is anyone who is an editor on meta available to test out a potential bug/issue with me?
I'll need two people.

I'll bite assuming anyone else is around.

cool, now we'll just need a second

2:47 AM
Does it have to be specifically Meta Stack Overflow?
I mean, can't I just help since I'm a mod on Database Administrators?

We could probably do it on SO though I'm hoping it won't attract any negative attention

@jcolebrand Can't you edit on MSO either way? :P

I can edit on meta!

Oh, I thought I read "mod"
/facepalm

hah
I'll set up a room so we can discuss what needs to happen
... once I figure out how
@jadarnel27: you're welcome to come too if you'd like

2:52 AM
@JeffMercado neat!

3:06 AM
@jadarnel27 Oh yeah.
One request was for a feature that's already three-quarters implemented in the latest live version.
The other was asking for english language text, which I apparently promised somewhere?
looks confused
Well, in any case, was fun, fielding two emails.
I should tell that other guy that the update with his feature request has been delayed by Apple's review team - again.
Hrm...

Sounds like a blast.
I don't mind fielding e-mails like that as long as they make a reasonable amount of sense.

Me neither. Almost done with this new app - been working on it since 10/31/10
Over 300 some odd days, methinks.
Longer.

It's when I get feature requests from the higher-ups, and despite me making it very clear that the feature is a terrible idea, I still have to implement it.

Yup.
I think I know why this isn't working...
Woot! Just got a positive response from another almost client whom I haven't spoken to in two years.
We might have something going here... :-)

3:25 AM
Yayy

Aaand Dave Delong's code works!
I don't believe this proposal didn't exist before.

I wonder how the ISO settled on Thursday as the defining day of a week.
Oh, an obvious thing.

3:50 AM
it being days[ [days-in-week / 2] rounded up]?

4:34 AM
@jcolebrand Using a week starting on Monday, the year having four of the days in it.

3 hours later…
Lix
7:41 AM
Good morning all

@Lix Good afternoon
:P

Lix
@man - Indeed :P
its not really morning here either :P but you know... social conventions and what-not...

Oh cool lots of SE Inc ppl online
@Lix Ooh look area51 proposal. area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/39766/…
Though it may have overlap, not sure

Lix
Oh cool...
not sure how much i'll be able to contribute to that :P but interesting...

You may want to ask a few example questions to help it

Lix
7:51 AM
I'm thinking about some :P

I usually do that to proposals that I'm not interested in joining--but I do know a bit about
Unfortunately, I don't know enough about Israel to ask some good questions
:/

Lix
well once the public beta is open you can learn ;)

@Lix Yep I love roaming the sites

Lix
@mos - whats up man? Posted some sample questions on your Israel proposal - Are those the kinds of questions you were looking for?

+1 to the questions I could understand :P
I dunno what Aliya is

Lix
8:05 AM
yay! first upvote on area51 :P
hehe
making aliya is the process of immigrating to israel.

@Lix Aah...
+1 for that--seems on topic for a country-site\

Lix
wow... this dude really doesn't get it...

status-WHACK
Aah

Lix
8:14 AM
hehe :P yea - has to be on its own line...

It can have @replies with it, though
status-LIKE_SO

Lix
but not manual replies... i guess...

@Lix [status-can-has]
status-nope
Dammit people ask some easy physics questions!!!

Lix
Oh noes! What next??
@man - Almost bit your head off! ;) hehehe JK
Well.. at least my flag weight is going up today...

8:33 AM
@Lix I thought that doesn't exist.. What is flag weight?

Lix
Ah - well it still exists - but it was removed from the user profile a little while back.

@Lix Kk.. What does it do? Make mods like you?

Lix
Flag weight is a representation of how many of the flags you raised were helpful...
I'm no mod :P

Umm, wut?

@DanielFischer Again!?

Looks like it

Can we just flag it as spam?

I'm not here long today, how many times did (s)he already try?

@DanielFischer At least three other questions, which have since been deleted

9:19 AM
So has this now.
I wonder how long the account will last.
What gives people the idea that whether their phone has a gorilla glass display is appropriate for meta?

@DanielFischer Hahahaha
We need Yahoo Answers enthusiast to steer him to the right site

Would that be programmers?
(No, it never is!)

... and here comes another one

and another one ...
What is it today? That frequency is unusual.

9:34 AM
It's META day!
:/

Lix
10:18 AM
soooo...yes... we are defiantly being trolled today...

@Manishearth apple.stackexchange.com/faq - Ask Different is for consumers, not developers

@YiJiangsProble_ Then?
SO only?

Thanks, changed
@YiJiangsProble_ Ironically, I was talking about users not knowing the scopes of other sites here.
Self-proved it :P

Q: How can I redirect all pages to IE tab in the Chrome and invalidating other browsers?

user183095Look.... I have programming my website in one year, now i intend to start it! The problem is that the performance is better in IE tab of Chrome. I´d like to check: if navigator is = IEtab in Chrome? else I´d like to automatically redirect to IEtab, How can i do it in Javascript/ or PHP? Thanks

Asked 41:29, closed 43:23
Slightly less than 2 minutes - hehehe

Lix
and deleted shortly after :P

12:18 PM
Hi @balpha ! Is there any news / progress on reviewing the Mathematica.SE syntax highlighter?

it looks good for the most part; there are a few details I'd like to talk to tim stone and halirutan about, but I'm afraid I won't have the time for that until after our company meating next week
but it's probably a good idea to post that as an answer

Alright, thanks for the feedback!
@balpha If there's anything we can help with, please ask!

@balpha Mmmhmm, meatings. I bet @Jin loves those :P

Lix
mmm... meat....

I shall not fix that typo now, because I'm a nice person and don't want to make @YiJiangsProble look stupid...

12:24 PM
Is today a holiday over there?

easter monday

Holidays, hah... sighs

Gives new meaning to the word typosquatters :P

that's a holiday where I am; not sure what "over there" means for you

Lix
Tim read my mind :/

12:25 PM
Of course :-) I was just wondering if that's a public holiday in the US. It's a holiday in my place, but we don't always get it (the majority of the country is Greek Orthodox meaning they have it on a different date). Here in Malta it's a not a holiday.

Lix
@mos - I really want to answer this - It is exactly what I did.

1:12 PM
Of course, I get "Out of votes - you may only vote 40 times a day." for the first vote I composed a custom reason today :(

Lix
@dan - you should be able to see how many close votes you have left before sending one.

@Lix suggested edits, no such luck there

Lix
Ah - voting to approve suggested edits?

approve or reject, in this case reject

Lix
I guess its true what they say... there seems to be a limit on everything here :P

1:17 PM
Yup. Though the daily answer limit seems generous enough.

Lix
lol - I'd hope so :P

Odd, is anyone else seeing an error?

Lix
@yij - I see that page with no errors...

Huh, it's working now. Weird...
It only seems to happen with the newest sort order

Lix
1:32 PM
Oh yea - now I see it...

Oops! An error occurred while fetching questions for this filter.

Detailed information about this error has automatically been recorded, and developers have been notified.

Lix
A team of highly trained devs has been dispatched to deal with this situation...

sort=active
hot and noanswers work

@YiJiangsProble_ The query is probably too expensive, would be my guess.
They did mention having performance issues with the filters a bit ago.

Weird. Why would new be worse than any of the other sort orders?

1:37 PM
I get an error for active as well.
hot and noanswers filter the result set, where active and new have to sort the entire thing.
So it seems like there's enough questions across all 45 of those sites that pulling out the design questions and then sorting all of them is costly enough to exceed the production timeout period.
Of course, this is complete speculation on my part, I could be entirely wrong. :P

@Lix - So leave a comment.

Anyway, I intended to leave for work about half an hour ago, so I should do that now...

@Lix wait, you're in Israel, right?

Lix
@mos - I'm not to familiar with area51 proposals...
Posting an answer as a comment?
@mos - yes

I plan to be in the holy land over the summer. Birthright trip.
My first time. Maybe we can meet up after the trip. I hope to be able to extend my ticket.

Lix
1:42 PM
Ah! sweet man! You gonna sweeeeeeeeat here though :P
Sure thing man - very possible...

@lix you can just leave a comment for now. That's how I've answered A51 questions.
Shoot me an email please? Mosheberman at me dot com

Lix
done
haha - "Thank you for confirming your email address: +50 reputation" that was easy!
@mos - coolbeans... Do you have any idea where you'll be after the trip? In what part of israel?

No idea yet. Have family in בית שמש
I only know that I got on and that the trip leaves NY on June 21, 2012

Lix
Ah - I lived on a kibutz for a year right next to beit shemesh :)

Where are you located?
I also have friends in netanya and prolly elsewhere. Heh, I have new York geography skills.

Lix
1:52 PM
I'm in TLV - but Israel is really really small - getting around is not really an issue. Beit shemesh also has a train station now - so you'll be set :)

Oh, yea, what's the deal with that train? It's new, right?
Is there a website I can look it up on?

Lix
Yes - relatively new.
There you can check out all the trains to and from any station...
Don;t forget there is no public transport on Shabat though :P

That's fine, I'm not traveling then anyway. I'll be in shul.
:-)
Also, that site seems to hate safari mobile.

Lix
I wouldn't be surprised - all those kinds of sites here are really really crap :P

They should hire some Israeli, like... I dunno... Any dev who participates in StackOverflow?
Hehe

Lix
2:02 PM
hehe - riiiiight :P

Or as part of army service.
Unless that's how they ended up like that in the first place. Eh, @lix?
Dd you write that site during your service?

Lix
Haha... not at all :P
hehe - building offline connections FTW :P
I managed to troll Mr.Dr.Who the other day when he gave you his email...

2:20 PM
I am terrible at writing titles. To anything. Just FYI.

Lix
@jad - no... that was not random what-so-ever.... :P

@Lix I forgot you guys can't read my mind.

Lix
not on Mondays at least :P

I just wrote a interesting* query in the Data Explorer. But the title, "Largest number of positively scored answers in a day by a single user" seems really... unwieldy.
*for some definitions of "interesting.
I can haz a better title?

SELECT 22656 AS UserId?

Lix
@man - you squeezed it out of me :P hehe...

Wow, Nick Craver is in the top 100 several times.
That is, assuming I did the SQL right. I started out with a bunch where the Posts.OwnerUserId was blank, but I just filtered those out, figuring they were deleted users. Or possibly community wiki answers. Or anonymous users. I don't know how all that nonsense works.

Lix
@jad - Maybe those were on the days that Jon couldn't decipher the captcha :P

@Lix Yes, I imagine he has to update is algorithms occasionally to continue to appear human.

Lix
hehe

2:56 PM
@lix you trolled Neal?

Lix
@mos - hehe, yea - he had no idea who it was...

3:15 PM
@jadarnel27 Why did you convert the date?

@TimStone To get it to group by day. Since CreationDate is a DateTime, when I didn't convert it was grouping down to the second. I tried doing CAST(CreationDate AS DATE), but that did not work, which is why I just converted to a string. Am I crazy?
It is Monday, so I might be crazy.

@lix that's not very nice...
@jadarnel if your name is Rebecca Black, it might be Friday

@jadarnel27 Converting to varchar has the potential to be pretty wasteful. Casting to DATE should work, unless Data Explorer is only running on SQL Server 2005 (which it might be, I can't remember right now). Otherwise you can do DATEADD(dd, 0, DATEDIFF(dd, 0, CreationDate))

@TimStone Oops. I just changed it to CAST to DATEand it did work. I'm not sure how I missed that. RAWR.

Hmm, should probably handle DATE differently than DATETIME.
(also, the bug you can see in that result set has already been fixed, if you noticed it :P)

3:30 PM
Thanks for the workaround with DATEADD though =) Also, out of curiosity, what is it about the conversion to varchar wasteful? Is it because grouping on arbitrary varchars is more costly than grouping on Date?
@TimStone Perhaps I'm not pedantic enough to see the bug. Is it that DATEs are being displayed with a 00:00:00 timestamp?

Well, you have to convert to string, which is otherwise unnecessary.
No, that's a feature request per
3 mins ago, by Tim Stone
Hmm, should probably handle DATE differently than DATETIME.
The bug is that 9s in the date aren't 0-padded.

Oh, indeed. I see that now.
How did you leave out just the 9's? =P

@jadarnel27 Off-by-one
That or I forgot a =, not sure.

@TimStone Haha, nice. The diff + the check-in comment are amusing.

Yes, unfortunately my commit comments are not witty like balpha's :P

3:41 PM
hi

Lix
@ney - heya

sometimes there are such boring days...
i have to do a lot, but cant motivate myself :)

Lix
Hehe - dunno if comming here will help motivate you much :P

:)

4:13 PM
@Lix, you here?

@#$@$%

Lix
Well if you are asking if I got your ping then the answer is yes... :P But i'm just in the middle of something right now...

See #2 - My app in the App Store Israel. Paid, iPhone, Lifestyle category. Top grossing.

Lix
:) No iphone....

Not trying to sell it to ya. Just bragging about it. :P
If it could hit #1... that would be impressive.

Lix
4:15 PM
hehe - take your iBragging somewhere else ;)
jokes - well done - thats awesome for getting to #2...

Who moves a git repo without preserving history? grumble
Oh sorry guy, the branch you've been working on for 2 weeks is useless now.

Thanks. It's only the lifestyle category though. Wait - #121 overall!
Sweet.

Sounds like something I'd do out of inexperience.

concurs

@mootinator Trolls

4:25 PM
@TimStone D:

Ultimate Omer 2 is #121 overall in the App Store Israel. Wow. Okay, done trolling. I'm just kinda happy now.

I can't seem to find any way of extracting a useful indication of what I actually changed.

@mootinator - Diff engines? But that won't show you much meaningful anything.

@Moshe Exactly. Too much noise from all the merging.

Can you ask the perp what's going on?
Maybe that person remembers something?

4:28 PM
Hi all, I noticed that I have a separate Meta stack overflow account, but in programmers it seems to be that same account (with the same reputation and so). Moreover in this site it shows a Meta stackoverflow account but only a programmers account. Why?

I know what's going on. They didn't merge my branch before moving, forgot to tell me they were doing anything, didn't preserve history. Because they thought it would be nicer if the repo was sitting somewhere else.
I'm just slightly agitated that I'm going to lose half a day over it.

@Martin Meta Stack Overflow is special, until such a time when it becomes Meta Stack Exchange.
@mootinator Yeah, I can imagine so. :/

@Tim So all meta sites will be merged? that sounds wired since many pages like cooking and photographing are up, and have nothing to do with computers.

No

Q: The future of meta.stackoverflow and meta.stackexchange

Jeff AtwoodHistorically this site, meta.stackoverflow, has been the place to ask questions about not just Stack Overflow, but the functioning of the entire Stack Exchange (2.0) network, including Area 51 and stackexchange.com and careers. (Yes, there was a meta.stackexchange, but that dealt with the old le...

4:33 PM
Each site has its own meta which uses the same account as the parent site, except Stack Overflow (currently). Eventually there will be a separate Meta Stack Exchange site that will replace Meta Stack Overflow as the network-wide meta site, and then Meta Stack Overflow will be like all of the other meta sites you are used to.
@PopularDemand The title font changed >_>

@TimStone Come again?

My brain tells me that something about the titles in oneboxes is different than before.
I think it's that the font changed...but I'm not positive.

Thanks people, have a good day!

Hey

4:56 PM
Every time you type @Tim you summon a moderator.

Tim power!

O great @Tim, I offer unto you the gift of my finest (Red) Bull, that I might have a bountiful harvest (of answers) in the coming year!

@TimStone Hang on, let me get your messages while you were away

I was away? It's a miracle!
It's also lunch time...

Well, looks like you answered them all.. except for that weirdo from Iceland talking about gluing a horn on a donkey

5:02 PM
goes out

Seriously, I get "How could you .. " , "Why did you .. " and other things in the global inbox and I instantly think Oh CRAP, I pissed off a user.

Now I find out how good my memory is.

A lot of people share a common first name .. use tab? :)

@TimPost Oh, I never really thought about that. I didn't realize it notified you both when just @ Tim was used. I figured it would just notify the nearest Tim (chronologically in the transcript).
In fact, I thought I read somewhere that that is the way it works.

It might actually be a bug. Not that I hate getting notified or anything
Since I (try) to frequent this room, @Tim notifies both of us.

@jadarnel27 I'm fairly certain you haven't read that anywhere, since it was never true

@balpha Right, I was talking about the post I just linked. I had mis-remembered it =)
"a first name match (to be precise, a word boundary match) will cause a notification if you've been in the room in the past two days." - This makes much more sense to me now.

I'm out to grill a rather unhealthy, but satisfying sandwich. Sorry about the noise, I just saw a weird inbox item with a meta icon and thought 'oh no, what have I done now?!' :)

Whoa, wait, hey, we can't have both Tims out on lunch break at the same time.

"Sorry about the noise" - I thought this room was all noise?

5:23 PM
only between noon and 12

Perhaps between noon on Dec. 8, 2008 and 12 PM on Apr 24, 2324.

I like you guys. You're a lot of fun.

I need to go work on-site where this room is blocked.

5:54 PM
@PopularDemand I think it's dinner for him, so no worries.
I'm also back, or something.

6:10 PM
Hmm, why does #user-info-container have float: left, I wonder?

I love when people try to create their own definition of how someone should answer them when asking a question...

Q: what the differences between them?

Didar J. JamalI have 2 Q 1- what is the difference between Semi-Restric and Restric search . 2- what is the difference between traditional and simple search . PLEASE SHORT ANSWER !.thanks

Reminds me of polling questions where the OP will say "please one answer per post" or something to that effect.
(And I think I remember a Meta question some months ago where the OP said "downvote if you agree" or something like that.)

Heh :P shakes head

Uh oh, @TimStone is shaking his head. :o

@animuson I win!

gives @David a limited edition giant stuffed unicorn

6:18 PM
@animuson Clarification request... Is it a giant unicorn which is stuffed, or a unicorn which is stuffed with giants?
Either way, it's cool. I just want to be explicit.

The former. The latter would be "giant-stuffed."

@PopularDemand I would expect so as well, but it's still worth asking :)

It's stuffed with magical powder. So don't rip it, or you might turn into a toad.

huhu

Howis everyone?

@Chacha102 good, you?
I am getting back into C++ slowly...

I'm sorry :P

I have.

Is it good?

Yes, I've enjoyed it thoroughly so far.
