12:00 AM
Anyone here ever worked with Mantis ?

I've worked with a fellow named Mantis, but that might not be what you're asking about

Yah, that I have. A rather old version, as we had some mods to it.

hum, I just installed it and change the config for the admin password
now every page for mantis just doesn't load up
and rest of the server is ok

Sorry, no idea off the top of my head. I worked with it, never admined it. :)
Are you sure you didn't typo and mess something up?

That's what I'm wondering, but all I changed was password & email for the admin account

12:05 AM
Something with the editor screwing things up? Lack of an empty line at the end?
just stabs in the dark

What's wierd is that in the php.ini, I have max_execution_time = 30, but it's still loading ...

As in, no timeout error? Maybe it's being overridden by Mantis.

no timeout, just the browser still loading
I got same result in Opera & Chrome

Did you check the error log?

any chance it's sending a huuuuuuge table down the pipe?

12:12 AM
:s I think I got my error message ... Apache Crashed ...

That may do it. One time Apache didn't start when I started up the VM. That was slightly aggravating.

It was started, I just got a Windows Error Message Box saying Apache HTTPD crashed, do you want to send error report ?
seems to be good after a restart

I have to figure out why the boot text is garbled in my VM. Kinda makes displaying the boot text an exercise in frustration.

12:41 AM
Oh, great. I just found yet another SE site to join.

that site scares me

why ?

Heh. Why's that? Uber-nerdy?

it's the architecture astronaut part of writing

Ironically, I just bought a grammar book and my 3rd copy of Elements of Style, to offset my D&D book purchases.

12:43 AM
instead of asking "is this writing good, does it communicate ", they focus on arcane technicalities and trivialities -- it's ultimately a distraction from what MATTERS

Jeff, they're technically correct. The best kind of correct!

@shog9 Love the reference. Very nice!
For some reason "White and Nerdy" comes to mind.
Eh? Can't follow a site in private beta in order to get an email when it goes public?

I think you can, you just have to go to the tabs definition. NVM

@holyvier Yeah, that's what I thought. There is no follow button for User Interface.

Apparently you can't, but since the launch date is known, I don't think it's 100% needed

12:49 AM
@holyvier It is when you have so many interests that you can't keep track of 'em all. :D

I know I find it hard to follow Meta / SO / ProWebmaster

@jeff, good call on this one btw (the chat)

That said, this reminds me of reply to question about how people keep up following many people on twitter: "Like carrying water with a sieve. Run fast and don't worry about what falls through."
@holyvier I've been using Morning Coffee for Firefox to do that.

Is it a iGoogle like plugin ?

Nah, it's pretty simple. It lets you assign websites to days and opens them up in tabs.

12:53 AM
I see

Have you tried Feedly? It uses Google Reader as a datasource for feeds and presents them in a magazine like interface.

I mainly use Chrome at work and at home
My Firefox at home is just too bundle it's take so long to open >.<

@holyvier Too many addons? That's my typical problem.
I have Chrome installed, but I rarely seem to use it.

I am clearing stars on "if real time chat replaced the comments feature" because that's just never going to happen, and I violently disagree with it

throws tomato at Jeff
:p

12:58 AM
Real time comments would just flood questions. Way too much nose clouding the signal (@jeff)

real time is a very, very different medium -- don't cross the streams, man

People would forget the content of the original question too easily

the cheezburger network is kind of the evil spock opposite of us. all no-learning lulz, all the time. :P

@jeff, you are way too quick at finding those images
Also, I'm glad that you added an image upload feature
Makes asking a question and including the necessary info much easier

@waffles did all the work on that

1:03 AM
What happenned with the question with the announcement of the feature ?

we're not rolling that out to SO until next week, because we want to see how it works on the lower volume sites first

He was a great addition to the team (@jeff), so were all of the new hires
@Jeff, how long are images hosted there?
Will they expire?
That is my only concern

that'll be covered in the blog post later this week

@jeff, haha
ok, I'll wait with bated breath
The latest blog post is good

robert wrote that, I just edited

1:06 AM
He is a good writer then. I'm still not sure how I feel about those two proposals co-existing
But, I think time will tell
I think it would be cool to hear from the new hires. Blog posts, or podcast.

disappear

@Casebash Huh?

@jjnguy What?

@Casebash Well, you said "disappear", and I wasn't sure what you meant...so I said, "what?
Well, I have to take off (disappear) as well. Night everyone! (Morning to some of yall)

can't.. stop.. editing.. blog.. post
omg, I've fallen prey to the english.stackexchange.com trap!

1:21 AM
@jeffatwood Typos?

though in my defense, converting that "site creation days" image to a HTML table is just better usability

@jeffatwood LOL

@jjnguy That wasn't me

Ugh... Facebook is sucking more than usual today.

6:11 PM
unpossible!

1 hour later…
7:13 PM
@jeffatwood I remember Jon making a LINQ joke about that. Only Jon could do that...

7:41 PM
I can't believe craigslist can't handle a quote mark in the title. I sent them a link to SO so they could get help.

metafilter once sent me my password in plain text
actually, that happens about once every month, some site will send me my password in plain text.. a real boner

> a real boner
security is hard

this is like programming 101 stuff

8:02 PM
There is a website (still) out there I created many years ago. I won't tell which, but I'm pretty sure it's totally easy to SQL inject (haven't looked at the code for a while). Also it's one single, unindented PHP script powering the whole site. Admin auth is done via IP address.
But even back then, one thing I did was not store plain-text passwords. Okay, they're MD5'd, unsalted -- but at least not plain-text.

Man alive! There are men...alive in here.
Make that, were...

2 hours later…
11:20 PM
weirdo...

@chacha102 Your point? ;)
Next you're gonna call me a geek or maybe a nerd? :D
A few friends and I started playing D&D the other day. I was talking about how I had bought a 2nd d6 since my weapon did 2d6 damage. To which he replied "Nerd!" heh
