A: Why does a suggested edit (with only approvals) for empty tag [untagged] result in "This item is no longer reviewable." ... and a rejected edit?

ᔕᖺᘎᕊ2 . The untagged tag is used mostly for questions that have been migrated from other sites but the sites don't share the existing tags. People then come along and edit the question to add proper tags for that question. The untagged tag is then deleted every day (if there are no questions with it...

I appreciate this attempt to answer, but I believe it still needs some work to enhance its quality, like "I don't know for sure" should not be in it. Please take your time, I'm not in a rush. And for me there is no (more) need to explain what the real "purpose" of the untagged tag is (I think I get that meaning pretty good).

@Pierre.Vriens me, or any other user, can only assume what happened - I put the I don't know for sure in because I don't what it to sound like that's exactly what happened, when it may be different. Employees on the other hand might be able to get more data and give a more exact answer.

Hm, let me try to explain what I did ... I do not have the right to create tags, and as James pointed out I have not asked any questions, answered anything or commented. So that, IMHO, proofs that the tag WAS created. If not, how could I possibly have a ike to "suggest an edit" for it. I'd be interested to get some info where "I" can see anything related to the creation of that tag at 22:20:07. As per what I wrote above in this comment, I really don't see how I can have "created" it. thoughts?

@Pierre.Vriens I don't know if you're trying to sound arrogant... but you are seeming to be - we're all trying to help you understand what's happening. The only reason I said it seems you've created the tag is because if you go to your linked suggested edits, hover over the 'created x hours ago' on the Community and Pierre.Vriends posts - you'll see they are both the same time. In hindsight I probably should have checked your privileges to see whether you can create tags, I've removed the 'edit'.

If I do appear like "trying to sound arrogant", then sorry: that is not what I want or am trying to. Let me further digest your prior comment to see if I can do anything about that, OK?

4:51 PM
@Pierre.Vriens fine by me :) Sorry if I sounded rude!

About "they are both created the same time": be aware that I only "submitted" 1 single tag edit suggestion, which included both the excerpt" and the "tag wiki". Does that help already a bit? PS: THANK YOU all fro trying to help me understand, greatly appreciated! Hang on for an update about my privileges, ok?

@Pierre.Vriens By 'both' I meant the tag and the wiki (both included)

thx for the 'both" clarification. About my privileges: I have a rep of only 100 or so, While 300 is required for "create tags" (Add new tags to the site). So that is why I "assume" it was not me who created those tags (but I've learned to be prudential in interpreting the English terminology on SE ... such as "deleted" (a post) is actually "hidden for anybody witk less then 10K rep" ... Is there anything left now that I did not clarify/answer in this specifc answer? Any other thoughts/feedback about "this" answer? FYI: I'm now digesting the re-edited answer.

@Pierre.Vriens How did you suggest the edit? What did you click to bring the edit page up? You shouldn't have been able to even suggest a non-existent tag, I think... unless there was originally a question in the past 24 hours which was tagged with untagged, you proposed an edit, and then the tag got deleted (which is what I think happened)

"Good" question (we're coming close I think to understand each other ...). Before I answer it 2 things: (a) go check drupal.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/untagged ... and get surprised ... 82 hits there! Look at it and then read your 2nd parg in your answers again .... (b) should we move this conversation to "chat", as I see in a suggestion about this comment I write?

4:51 PM
a) wow - that's weird but drupal might be special ;p
b)yes
Regarding my 2nd paragraph - the tag is only deleted if there are 0 questions in it for 24 hours

Ok, "I made it" here in chat ... be aware: I'm a newbee to chat also, OK? Give me a few mins to figure out a few things ... You digest a bit those 82 hits in the drupal world (I started at 91 a few days ago ... think you were me, would you also get confused?)
I more or less understand where I am now here in chat (all previous comments are "copied" here I believe). Do we have to worry about deleting (do we have to cleanup anything 'temporary' like we do in real comments? I have problems with my eyes to SEE these timy chars here (be patient a bit pls to have me READ them)

we can clean the comments up if you want
done @Pierre.Vriens you can delete yours now :)

ok, thx, don't worry for now. Do you want another site with quite a few untagged tags (like 10 or so)? Anyway, your 2nd parg in your answer is the "clue" to me (I did not know that until now, and wonder if it makes sense to go look for variations of my issues ... which ALSO frustrated me a lot (my I say "frustrated" in this small chat corner?

some sites are different - most sites will have an empty untagged tag - dunno why drupal (or other sites) might not. But I think my explanation in my answer is probably the best I can come up with.

5:08 PM
yes your answer "no" starts to make sense to me, though the other answer ALSO of course. By the way: I need more time to "accept" either answer (I can only accept 1).
Know already that for the answer I cannot accept (because I can only accept 1), I will go find questions or answers of the author of that answer that I believe deserve upvoting (with a reputation that is equivalent, at least). I will not abuse the upvoting, I just will invest "my" time to see if there is anything that I like as a question or answer. correct me pls if that is not compliant to any rules on SE, ok?

fine by me :) take your time and once everything's clear, you can accept one :)
@Pierre.Vriens there is a fine line between what you are saying and serial upvoting - doing too many will cause an automatic reversal
please don't go looking for posts - if you come across one, +1 it, I know you don't have 'malicious intent' but it could be mistaken as that! It's fine - accept one and that's it - it's all cool :)

"serial upvoting" is indeed something I do not want to run into. But that's another topic for future discussion (if you want). Back to the question here. Give me a few mins to go lookup something ...
OK, I found what I was looking for .. try to follow me ... part 1: check askubuntu.com/posts/607234/revisions ... 2 accepted edits (wiki and excerpt) for the untagged tag ... and they are 2 days old ... hang on for my part 2 ...

@Pierre.Vriens that's fine though, because there are 2 questions with that tag already.
(although closed)

that's a wrong answer "I think" (may I say "here"?). Here is part 2 to proof 1 of my points (i have more ...): askubuntu.com/questions/tagged/untagged indeed has 2 questions .. .But they are both CLOSED and locked for edits. So unless somebody with enough privilege retags them, "my" approved tag edit is going to remain. That is confusing, at least to not-privileged users. Worth a NEW question (I can only ask 6 a day ...)?

5:23 PM
@Pierre.Vriens Yes - only a higher rep user (I think a mod) can remove those tags. If and when they do, after a day, the tag will disappear. What's confusing...?

What the confusing part will be: how is the "approved" edit "then" going to show up in "my" suggested edits history? Pretty sure something like "approved", with no more tag behind it. Get my point?

@Pierre.Vriens It will probably remove the link to the question and show what you are currently being showed - eg. 2 days ago approved <no link>
sorry - got to go right now - if you @reply my name I will receive it when I get back :)

thanks for your help/replies ... greatly appreciated. I'll try to find out how to "delete" some of my prior chat replies here (which I do not want to leave hanging around here).
If you think it's a good idea, and want to do so, pls go ahead and edit my question, or update your answer, OK? FYI: I still have another "case", which is a variation of this. Ie a suggested edit of the untagged tag that is hanging in the approval queue of Drupal Answers, for over 2 days now ...

5:44 PM
You don't need to delete any chat replies - the room will automatically be frozen after a few weeks.

5:58 PM
@ᔕᖺᘎᕊ : Not sure (yet) what frozen means (I will try to find out). but I do not want to leave that 1 parg with "Know already ... " hanging around here "for a few weeks". Can you still change this chat to something "private" (now it seems to be "public")?
As an alternative: is there any way I can EDIT that 1 parg (I can't find any way to do such thing, sorry)

@Pierre.Vriens There's no private chat in SE - the closest you can get to 'private' is a 'gallery' one - where people can only spectate and not chat unless they have permission. You can't delete old message or edit old message (5 mins).
But it's fine! As long as you don't do it, nothing will happen :)

6:31 PM
OK, I WILL NOT do it, promise! But I did learn a new lesson today: comments in chats are permanent after 5 mins, while comments in questions or answers can be deleted at any time. Oh well, earning from mistakes, right?
