Q: Should I explain my mistake definition as an answer?

OokerSee this question: Why shouldn't I quote famous scientists in my SOP? I asked this question because I was confused between SOP and applicant essay. After getting help but not really get what I wanted, I research more and find what my problem was not really lie like what I ask, but because I had ...

Did you phrase the answer as an answer? If not, then they had every right to delete it. The question should have been edited, and you should be doing that rather than worrying about future visitors.

What do you mean by saying "phrase the answer as an answer? Does it mean my answer is not a good answer? As I have said above, I think it is.
@rene I have also considered that and decide to ask it here, since what I ask is about general function of SE, not specify to academia.
@Servy see my edit

Tim
If you answered the question then fine. If not, it's not. Edit your question next time.

@Tim If it's ok to not worry about the future visitors, then I think edit my question is fine. Make it an answer and I'll accept yours.

Tim
Your question should apply to your situation, not the situation you think others will find themselves in. They can ask their question, rather than use yours.

@Tim Isn't the purpose of SE for the future visitors?

Tim
The purpose of SE is for your question to be answered. If that helps someone else, even better. But you shouldn't not add important details about your situation because you want it to apply to others.

@Tim I understand. I'll edit that question instead of answer it then. But maybe consider to change the button to "Answer The Question" rather "Answer Your Question"?

Tim
No, it's to remind you that it's your question... Why does it need to change?

@Tim cause it makes me want to answer my question. I already know that's my question. It even popups a reminding box if I click on it.

Tim
It is inviting you. To answer it. Not add more details.
In fact, it specifically says in that popup: "Edit your question if you need to add more details."

I know. And I also know that my point is not very strong. What I want to tell is in some occasions like this one, it is a little unclear cause it tell me to answer my question.
Ah, I see that you mean adding clarification is adding detail. I agree that, but it is also the answer I'm looking for.
