Tavern on the Meta

MY GOD, IT'S FULL OF STARS AND BACKLOG! General friendly chit-...
Aug 15 11:53
The EE mods are actually pretty active but there's no "close vote review" or similar chat there.
Aug 15 10:56
@ShadowWizard Ok thanks, I'll just flag such the next time.
Aug 15 09:24
(The whole Q&A is arguably off-topic on the site but anyway...)
Aug 15 09:23
Should we flag this as spam even though the answer as such isn't really spam? electronics.stackexchange.com/a/722439/6102 The account is an obvious spam account.

So moderation is about 50+ people doing some monumental effort into getting rid of some tag, while at the same time someone is creating the tag elsewhere, passing under the radar until it has been added to thousands of posts. Never ending busy-work.
May 22 08:52
Just be glad you aren't moderating SO and have to carry out "tag burninations" of thousands of tags... like every week.
May 22 08:34
@ResistanceIsFutile Yeah I don't understand why everyone dragged GDPR into this, there's no personal information shared (I hope). Plus... if you don't want someone else to get access to thing x, then maybe not post thing x on the Internet.
May 22 08:32
I for one hope that the new doomsday AI is trained on SO. It means that the AI's plan for obtaining the nuclear launch codes will be to poke the POTUS online and ask them "gimme teh codez plz".
May 22 08:28
I mean this "partnership with OpenAI" post alone is like dropping nuclear waste on the mods...
May 22 08:26
@Tinkeringbell Wasn't that the deal with the moderator agreement from last summer? That at least the mod teams should be given a head's up of the latest misguided changes?
May 22 08:25
But lately it seems the incompetence is also pouring out from everywhere within the company, not just from upper management. I really do get the impression that they fired the wrong people with those layoffs. Likely they picked those with highest salaries (those who actually were competent).
May 22 08:25
I mean... all US companies always come across as incompetent to those living in other countries, because it's such a strict top-down hierarchy and manager decisions are always rolled out even though everyone in the organization can tell the idea is stupid. This was historically how SO worked as well.
May 22 08:20
Zero communication from staff, they just put a lid on the feedback post. I'm done trying to communicate with this company. Although I'm astonished by the sheer incompetence in every single thing they do these days. It's as if it isn't actually a commercial company and therefore nothing they do matters.
May 22 08:12
Maybe locking a post requires two mods twisting two keys at the same time while chanting the secret password? :)
May 22 08:09
@JourneymanGeek And yeah wth is up with that edit history? Charlotte made some 10 locks unlocks at the same time?
May 22 08:07
@ResistanceIsFutile Yeah. I literally saw tags still after closing my eyes. I'm using a pretty high resolution monitor so tags stand out like beacons.
May 22 08:06
The only thing that has happened with the first post was that I added an admittedly late answer to it and that a few people left comments suggesting that the changes were poor.
May 22 08:04
Similarly, all posts below All tag labels suddenly appear in bold font seems almost ridiculously unison in agreement that this was a bad change. Seriously, this is the first time ever that I see 100% consensus about anything on any meta.
May 22 08:02
Anyone know why staff locked this post? Seeking feedback on tag colors update I posted an answer yesterday requesting to undo the tag changes, didn't really advertise it or anything. Today I come back and my answer sits at +31 without a single down vote in disagreement, which is extreme consensus as meta goes. So... is this about censorship of uncomfortable truths or what?
Jan 18 15:22
In general: how do deal with self-answered Q&A that is a product recommendation (possibly spam in disguise)? Example from Electrical Engineering where they link to a product on Amazon: How do I charge my UE Hyperbom speaker via USB-C? The post is off-topic there but I wonder if I should also report it as spam.
Dec 4, 2023 15:42
Maybe he went on strike after getting demoted from a pretty unicorn to a mundane fire alarm. I would.
Dec 4, 2023 15:09
Uh well nevermind, the spam I was to report has been deleted...
Dec 4, 2023 15:06
I never remember: is reporting spam etc done in the same way here as in SOCVR chat? As in using tags etc.
Sep 28, 2023 14:26
Should stuff like this get flagged as spam or for mod attention? meta.stackexchange.com/a/393386/170024
Jun 15, 2023 14:16
I guess the servers are on strike too. Oh well, maybe I should go outside and enjoy the nice weather...
Jun 15, 2023 14:12
Well it also says error 500. Which is one more than 499. I think... internal server error? Ddos or beavers in the server room etc.
Jun 15, 2023 14:10
@Mithical Hmm yeah not until in 1 hour I guess? Assuming they use EST
Jun 15, 2023 14:09
stackstatus.net actually claims it might be due to planned maintenance
Jun 15, 2023 14:06
Umm yeah. Some sort of ddos crap again?
Jun 15, 2023 14:05
I had a lag spike too
Jun 15, 2023 14:02
@JourneymanGeek Yeah that could be the name of a Japanese IoT toilet. Or an anime with 55 seasons.
Jun 15, 2023 14:00
Sorry if I derailed the important dogs with pants discussion btw.
Jun 15, 2023 13:58
As for IoT toilets, I bet the Japanese have that. Probably a toilet which can walk on two legs as well. They like to focus their R&D on important stuff like robots and more robots.
Jun 15, 2023 13:56
@ShadowWizardStrikesBack More like the local axe craftsman drawing their mammoth hunt drawing with people wielding axes instead of spears.
Jun 15, 2023 13:52
Moderation Q&A was much easier for cavemen too. You'd have the public wall where you could draw all your mammoth-related questions and moderators would be the folks with clubs.
Jun 15, 2023 13:50
@SPArcheon Yeah well, I could like some pics of plastic surgery humans and they don't look too different from that poor fish.
Jun 15, 2023 13:49
@ShadowWizardStrikesBack And well yeah, google "IoT toilet". Because why not.
Jun 15, 2023 13:47
@ShadowWizardStrikesBack Yeah if unlucky you got run over by a woolly rhino while crossing the street.
Jun 15, 2023 13:45
Maybe there was an original caveman from which various humans were corrupted too. Cavemen didn't have Twitter or ChatGPT or had their toilets connected to the Internet... They lived happily until they died of old age at 32.
Jun 2, 2023 13:25
I'd link a gif, but I'm not sure if fun is allowed in this chat.
Jun 2, 2023 13:19
@ShadowTheSpringWizard It is just as normal cows but they are excellent at skiing.
Jun 2, 2023 12:59
@ShadowTheSpringWizard Never accept all offered cookies.
Jun 2, 2023 12:56
@Andreasdetestscensorship Umm.... cooking.codidact.com ?
Jun 2, 2023 12:52
Come to Codidact, we have cookies (cookie pop-ups?).
Jun 2, 2023 12:38
@ShadowTheSpringWizard The fire in the sky.
Jun 2, 2023 12:37
@ShadowTheSpringWizard There's this little piece called Smoke on the Water, as spotted by SmokeDetector.
Jun 2, 2023 12:36
@ShadowTheSpringWizard Not into rock music much are you? :)
Jun 2, 2023 08:53
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Smoke rising from casino, a fire in the sky, potentially caused by a flare gun at Lake Geneva, Montreux.
Jun 2, 2023 08:47
Poor smokey... people used to respect him more back in the days when he was just a harmless unicorn.
