@ShadowWizard And are also wizards.
But also, Catija was staff and on Cooking.SE
But not a wizard [citation needed]
08:05
Looking at how all the activity was at once, I suspect its a communitython
@VLAZ ah, true. Her hat few years ago was totally priceless! :D
@JourneymanGeek yup
That specific staff is marketing.
Honestly, I think staff whose job wasn't directly on the network engaging is a good thing. :D
@VLAZ has staff implies wizard :)
ah network profile still has the real full name. lol
08:31
@DavidPostill That makes sense, yes. I don't think they hand over staves to just anybody. I'm sorry I have spread misinformation.
anyone having access to Minecraft bedrock and modding tool wants to test if the coordinate system crashes at 2^32 or 2^64? A crazy one on Arqade apparently wants to know (and mind you, the game becomes utterly unplayable far before those coordinates)
09:06
@ShadowWizard stealing @your staff
casts a long shadow over the doggo

1 hour later…
10:17
@SPArcheon Not to be confused with the new all-girl Korean band, Ramenstein. :)
@PM2Ring I was hoping for something like Animetal's Devilman cover.
Or Momoiro X Kiss "YUMENO UKIYONI SAITEMINA"
They're obviously all technically good players. But there doesn't seems to be a lot of substance beneath the showy exterior. IMHO.
but since you had to start this, I will reply with extreme sugar daaaawwwww
here, have fun.
But hey, they admit they're "just" doing pop music.
also, @AndreasmovedtoCodidact this is for you too ^
10:36
@SPArcheon Cute. But I need to take a break after 2 songs, or I might pass out from the sugar overload. :)
I listen to a bit of Japanese stuff, mostly jazz, fusion, & funk. But not much with vocals, although some of the Japanese blues I listen to has vocals, in English.
Drummer Senri Kawaguchi was a child prodigy. Now she's all grown up, and she's simply amazing. And she seems like a nice person, without a huge ego.
11:11
@PM2Ring you may like this old song.
11:28
Senri, with her band, The Jazz Avengers, performing Maybe I Know. These women have a perfect balance between competition and cooperation. They have a great love of the music.
Let's just say that "Shima Uta" may not be just the happy folk song it looks on surface
@SPArcheon It's pretty average.
Here's a little taste of Maki Shizusawa, with Kimono de BLUES
More Maki
@PM2Ring this probably will help...
can you now see what this song is actually about?
11:52
@SPArcheon No, sorry, I can't. I guess it's about someone who is parted from their lover. Maybe the lover has died?
The Muses have a more rock sound. Juna the bass player is also in The Jazz Avengers. Here they cover a Jeff Beck song, Cause We've Ended As Lovers, which was actually written by Stevie Wonder.
"Shima Uta" (島唄, lit. "Island Song") is a 1992 song by the Japanese band The Boom. It was written by the lead singer, Kazufumi Miyazawa, based on his impressions from visiting Okinawa for a photo shoot. It is the band's best selling song, well known throughout Japan and Argentina, and one of the most widely known songs associated with Okinawa although the band members are all from Yamanashi Prefecture. The song uses a mix of modern pop and rock styles as well as min'yō. Okinawan musical instruments and Okinawan vocabulary have been incorporated into the song. The song itself was used in an ...
> In a 2003 interview for fRoots, Miyazawa explained that he got the idea for the song after speaking with Okinawan survivors of the US invasion of Okinawa during World War II.
12:09
@SPArcheon Ah. Thankyou.
it is one of those "If you understand the context, it is utterly depressing" songs
It is similar to Senbonzakura
even Lindsey Stirling made a cover of that song. I wonder if she realized the context back then.
Depressing songs have their place. But it's probably a good idea to warn people beforehand. Just in case they're feeling fragile...
@PM2Ring isn't " it is utterly depressing" warning enough?
@PM2Ring I'll agree on that, probably should have asked.
(@SPA did say it above, personally didn't listen.)
12:23
@ShadowWizard Let's say that I was too keen on differentiating between bittersweet sad and simply "depressing"
@PM2Ring I was tempted to reply with Louis Armstrong's St. James Infirmary, but I will instead choose something more cheerful
@SPArcheon ah, OK
Here's another sad song, but not quite as depressing. Watchhouse, Punch Brothers, Sarah Jarosz, with Wildfire
12:30
@SPArcheon Know it well. I've even played it in jams a few times. Hugh Laurie does a great version.
@PM2Ring I suppose I can some cool song with very bittersweet meaning on you, but after what you said you'll have to sign a paper that frees me from any responsibility :P
Elizabeth Fraser wrote the trip-hop classic Teardrop when she learned of the sudden death of her friend Jeff Buckley. Here's a bluegrass-flavoured version by The Punch Brothers, with Sarah Jarosz.
Ann Wilson covers Ribin Trower's prog-rock classic, Bridge of Sighs (no video).
Robin
12:59
did we say cheerful?
@JourneymanGeek I saw the thumbnail and I was tempted to drop the Kikkoman song on you but I resisted.
Then the song actually SAYS Kikkoman.
Oh this has Kikkoman in it
.... know that you are SO CLOSE to me dropping that thing here.
@SPArcheon Nothing is for me.
13:16
I may have stumbled on a very weird bug on the image upload
Their new album that came out 4 days ago still isn't on YT in full.
So you'll get Wintersun instead:
@JourneymanGeek Does this account?
Network of music.
13:42
I don't get it.
Life is all about music.
There's a site for music. Maybe there :D
flags as spam
@JourneymanGeek No need, that particular subsite is practically dead. :(
At least other ones are alive. :)
13:48
@JourneymanGeek If the music spam annoys you just move everything to the Den :P
It also serves as a spam illegal landfill.
lol
In the context of talking about the network :D
@JourneymanGeek (that was just part of the plan to fill the den with ponies too, play along)
Gets the glue vat
I wonder if I'll get nuclear-powered speakers playing my whole library for me when I'm dead in a coffin.
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact told you before, it is pretty clear how you will end up.
Like Frieza in Dragon Ball Super.
13:55
@SPArcheon No idea what you're talking about.
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact "Oi! Turn it down, I'm trying to be dead here!"
@JourneymanGeek Get out of my coffin!
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact this one
surrounded by cute things, butterflies, faeries and pink flowers.
For eternity.
There's nothing cute about that.

2 hours later…
16:21
@ShadowWizard what makes you say this, by the way? Was there anything said by a staff member that led you to that conclusion?
I ask because, to put it bluntly, it is not at all reflective of the actual reality xD
there is no concept of a "CM for staff" as you mentioned
the "staff" or "senior" or whatever behind "Community Manager" is in no way reflective of the "type" of CM
this is mostly a reflection of seniority
oh wait, got that wrong, my bad.
was about to say lol
forget what I said. You were talking about the STAFF part
yep, that has to be seniority.
That said, it surprises me that there even is a "staff CM"
why?
considering the job, I would have assumed it was "senior only"
as in something you don't want people who just started to work on
but yep, it probably depends on your specific definitions of Staff and Senior
it really changes a lot from company to company
16:28
so, essentially, you have 5 "levels" for CMs:
- Associate CM
- CM
- Senior CM
- Staff CM
- Principal CM
as I mentioned, these are reflective of seniority, as well as competency, etc.
essentially, the goal is that there is a career path that isn't "you're a great CM; how do you feel about managing a team?"
yep, some other companies would probably call the lower ones in the scale "counselor" and the ones above "cm"
or other names like seer and so on.
I was more thinking of a Counselor VS CM because of previous experiences in other fields of community management
that was the reasoning for the above.
BTW, since you are here, can I ask you something?
noticed a weird bug on chat. An image I posted has the correct <img> src attribute, but the <a> link is missing a letter. Does this look familiar? Want me to post it on Meta?
@SPArcheon haven't seen anything about this, no. Realistically? It is unlikely to be fixed, since... well, it's chat :\
@SPArcheon centimeter
@JNat to be fair, it happened once. I am more intrigued about WHY than having it fixed in the first place.
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact cutie mark.
@JNat So is Chat CM the next step on the ladder?
Wait, that would just be CM: Chat Manager.
16:56
@AndreasmovedtoCodidact no; needs more recursion
17:20
@JNat CM: CM Manager
17:54
CM Manager: CM Manager Manager
CM Manager Manager: CM Manager Manager Manager
CM Manager Manager Manager: CM Manager Manager Manager Manager....

2 hours later…
19:37
@JNat that's just how I see it. And fact that I see for long time already is that you are way more busy, hence less available "for us" than before. I'm glad for you, but just couldn't help thinking it was also done as a way to reduce interaction between staff and community when it became "too much", in their eyes.
If I'm wrong then I'm happy to be wrong in this case.
