A: How to cite preprints from arXiv?

Martin SleziakI don't see any reason for treating preprints on arxiv in references differently, so you should do the same thing as what you would do for a preprint found on the author's webpage. Personally, I would simply put NOTE = {preprint, \url{http://arxiv.org/abs/****}} in the bibtex entry. (You also nee...

Just to note, since the SpringerLink site has moved from springerlink.com to link.springer.com, the linked Google Scholar search result currently returns zero results. — The Amplitwist yesterday
And by going to that question, I have noticed another link which wasn't working. math.stackexchange.com/posts/149558/revisions

A: How to cite preprints from arXiv?

Willie WongWhatever you do, make sure that some semblance of the arXiv citation string appears in your citation. By that I mean either the full url (random example from a tab I have open) https://arxiv.org/abs/1205.2525 or the suggested arXiv citation format in BibTeX which would print something like arXi...

I replaced http://arxiv.org/hypertex/bibstyles/ with https://arxiv.org/help/hypertex/bibstyles.
Search returns 12 results for arxiv.org/hypertex - all of them on TeX - LaTeX.

Search returns 12 posts with arxiv.org/hypertex - they are quite likely dead links. Should all of them be edited and replaced by https://arxiv.org/help/hypertex/bibstyles/? Or is it better just to leave a comment - and thus avoid bumping?

@MartinSleziak fix I'd say. not a lot of point leaving broken links, and it's only 12 not 1200 so "bump" effect will soon pass.

Thanks for the response. I made a few suggested edits. (And I'll have a look at other posts later - when I have a bit more time. After all, there is a limit on number of suggested edits, too.)

@MartinSleziak You could also leave comments. I do that on sites where I don't have the rep to edit directly. Often people will fix it.

A: Natbib not printing arXiv eprint no

DG'You can use natbib with the style provided by arXive.org, in this case hunsrtnat.bst: \documentclass{scrbook} \usepackage{filecontents} \begin{filecontents}{\jobname.bib} @article{Flacke:2016szy, author = "Flacke, Thomas and Frugiuele, Claudia and Fuchs, Elina and Gupta, Rick S. ...

It seems that the link at the beginning of the post no longer works, the new link is: arxiv.org/help/hypertex/bibstylesMartin 32 mins ago
@Martin - Thanks, I updated the link — DG' 4 mins ago

Should http://tinyurl.com/363fx3o be changed to https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/22/West,_Benjamin_-_Cicero_Discovering_the_Tomb_of_Archimedes_1797.jpg in the following answer?

A: Why is the volume of a sphere $\frac{4}{3}\pi r^3$?

Marko AmnellI wanted to post this as a comment to the answer by Justin L. but it is my first posting here so I couldn't. Archimedes was so proud of his proof that the volume of a sphere is two-thirds of the volume of a cylinder of the same height and diameter that he asked that a sculpture illustrating this ...

More generally, what is the policy on URL shorteners?
I think it is a clear improvement to replace URL shorteners with the actual link. On Meta Stack Exchange, there is this related post:

Q: No URL Shorteners?

L84Are URL shorteners banned on SO? I have had several of my questions edited and the URL shortener removed. (I am using TinyURL.com.) Are there reasons for this or is it solely so a person can edit the question? I am using the URL shorteners because the site is in development and I do not want any...

A: No URL Shorteners?

Shog9They're not banned. We just hate them. We really, really hate them. Persistent use of short URLs in your posts is a good way to get the attention of editors and moderators. Editing to replace them with canonical URLs is both acceptable and encouraged.
