@ymb1 one-flag comment deletion due to "thanks" by anyone else, I believe.

Time to go buy toast.
Which reminds me, @Tink yesterday kids were fine, better than expected. :)

@MetaAndrewT. lol next time I'll not say thanks then! :D

Does chat suspension result in suspension on the main site as well?

;-)
@nobody nope, it's only one way. (main --> chat)

So basically there's two seperate chat suspension mechanisms - it follows parent site suspension (by month) or chat only suspension

11:02 AM
Someone might be terrible in chat, but still give good posts, or be helpful in other ways, like reviewing.
That said, I believe that in extreme cases, moderators can decide to suspend user on the main site based on chat activity. I even think it happened, by mistake, to @forest a while ago.
However it's not automatic, the mod need to manually suspend on the main site.

Yeah, I'm just surprised to see a user suspended on main site for something that appears to have happened in chat
Guess I should make a meta post asking why

@nobody oh, you have current case?
@nobody no.
You won't get response if you ask, anyway.

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Yeah (not me though)
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Why not?

@nobody because moderators are not allowed to talk about the reasons leading to user suspension.
Your only way is to contact the suspended user in some other means and ask them.

I think it was a CM though... I don't think its fair to suspend a helpful high rep user from the site for chat.

11:06 AM
In chat, it would usually be posting extreme NSFW stuff, or being really really nasty.
@nobody CM and mods are same when it comes to suspension, i.e. they follow the same rules.
I even tried to ask about suspended user once when it was odd they got suspended via email to a CM that I used to email before, and got expected reply that this can't be discussed.
So, better just shrug it off. :)

ookay

@nobody also, you can't know it's just because of chat, that user might have done something bad on the site itself, and you can't see it. Only if you contact that user directly you can know, assuming of course they'll tell the truth.

@nobody There's a reason I try to remind y'all to behave
I mean, there's a certain amount of flexibility but the user in question kinda dug himself pretty deep

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Extremely unlikely. I see most things that happen on site, and I know that user too, they don't do any sort of questionable stuff on site

11:12 AM
@JourneymanGeek oh you're in this too? plot thickening :D

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar \o/

@nobody you can't know that.

I know everything that happens here.

@JourneymanGeek no, I just did something you didn't see.

Other than the pesky need to sleep, and work

11:13 AM
whistles

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Or you think I don't know

@JourneymanGeek oh no
checking behind me
@nobody look, people can just "lose it" sometimes. It happens to the best.
So when it happens while they are in chat on on SE site, we tell them to cool down, take some time off, and come back when things calm down.
And it can be something totally different, no way to know. And if mistake, that user can contact SE staff (contact us form) and they'll handle it, nothing we should or can do.
I was chat banned once, when taking jokes too far, and I deserved it. Luckily no site suspension so far. :)

"I was chat banned once, then I took an arrow to the knee"

@JourneymanGeek bit higher

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar brews a cup of chamomile tea for @Spe

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar No such command 'soup'.

12:56 PM
@MetaAndrewT. I'm now curious, say I suggest an improvement or request clarification, and end the long comment w/ thanks, is that also one-flag deletable?

@ymb1 yeah, regex as no AI ;)
But... think upvote prevents the insta deletion.
Not sure. @Journeyman you happen to know? If there's a comment with a blocklisted word like "accept" or "thanks" and it also has upvote(s), will a single flag delete it?

not off the top of my head I'm afraid

getting sock ready

Hello! I'm ready.

1:01 PM
!!/brownie @ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar

@DavidPostill bot ignores message with ping ;)
Anyway, on second thought not sure why using sock for this, but here's the test comment:
This is a test to see if comment with thanks is insta removed when it has upvotes, but need upvotes to test it. Thanks! +1 and don't accept it. ;) — Shadow-of-the-Shadow's-Shadow 47 secs ago
Need upvote(s) on it, then someone else to flag.

!!/brownie ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar

@DavidPostill Brown!

Then @ymb1 will have a sure answer.
@DavidPostill better but only coffee and tea are served to others as well. ;)
Oh, and welcome, perhaps?
!!/welcome rene

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar Welcome to Tavern on the Meta @rene! I'm SmokeDetector, a bot that detects spam and offensive posts on the network, and posts alerts to chat. You can find more about me on the Charcoal website.

!!/lick

@DavidPostill licks ice cream cone

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar upvoted; now someone needs to flag ... but shouldn't we also test long comments with no upvotes?

@DavidPostill giving a lick to @DavidPostill
@ymb1 those would almost surely be nuked, don't think length has effect.

@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar I'll post a long reply tagging you and see if you can nuke it OK? for my sake :)

1:33 PM
left the comment

@ymb1 AFAIK, "substantive" comment of at least 40 (or 20?) chars is exempted from one-flag
@Shadow-of-the-Shadow's-Shadow 's comment at least fulfills that criteria. Just flagged but not deleted.

Phew! that saves me saying some expletives :D many thanks @MetaAndrewT. and @ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar for the testing and info
now is it 20 or 40? 😁

sorry, just to be sure, did you try to flag my comment that has no upvotes? right below shadow's, @MetaAndrewT.

@ymb1 just flagged now, not deleted automatically

1:38 PM
awesome, I'll try to search in MSE to find the substantive criteria -- I'll share my findings

have to dig the meta first.. either MSE or MSO. it's not listed yet on the MSE FAQ

I had another question that I can't find the answer to:
17 hours ago, by ymb1
quick question please, if a user commented, and as I replying they deleted the comment, do users get notified by @ if they commented and deleted?
happy to ask as a question too if it's not well-known here

@ymb1 if the last comment from the user has already been deleted from the post before your comment is posted, then I believe it shouldn't ping the user (the only way to avoid getting pinged on that post anymore)... unless the user is the OP or had done a moderation action single-handedly (e.g. edit/dupe-hammer)

@ymb1 afaik no, the check is done when submitting the comment, if there's no matching reply with that name no notification is created. But as we just saw, can be wrong. ;(
hmm Smokey bugged? There's no linked punctuation ^
ohh OP edited
Dunno then, spammer won't edit spam out.
Anyone else has MSE load terribly slow now? (20 seconds each page)
...and now total crash

2:04 PM
yes, MSO also, probably that thing, or A/B/C/D/E testing went wrong

That thing being DDoS?

well, maybe...

Back, for now...

2:21 PM
@MetaAndrewT. yeah might be

@MetaAndrewT. and @ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar: my thinking is deleted comments aren't really deleted, e.g. mods can still see them (right?), so maybe, just maybe, the notification would work

@ymb1 sure, comments are soft-deleted and mods can still see them, but for notification purpose, deleted comments are ignored.

@MetaAndrewT. makes sense; I'll leave a comment somewhere, let is simmer (5 min) then delete, and let you know for testing
testing testing and will delete for testing purposes chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/9201307#92013‌07ymb1 6 mins ago
@MetaAndrewT. above comment is now deleted, tag me please in a comment

@ymb1 I don't think you get a notification for this (silent wind blows...) — Meta Andrew T. 22 secs ago

@MetaAndrewT. yep nothing! thanks!

2:34 PM
no prob, for science!

Where did the share button go?

@for-the-love-of-soupless swallowed by uBlock?

Oh, that's probably it. Thanks
I thought I missed a recent change

3 hours later…
7:47 PM
@ShadowWizardSaysNoMoreWar It happened to me because I hotlinked an image from an IB that apparently really doesn't like hotlinking, so it replaced the image with a shock image, but I couldn't see that because it was cached on my end. Then I got suspended from chat and posted it on MSE asking what was so offensive about it lmfao

4 hours later…
11:28 PM
I've been going through all the old questions 3 at a time, now the only ones left are ones
