A: 2019 Community Moderator Election Results

user1271772Why is nothing displayed on the election summary for 2019 (see below) even though Charlie was a candidate that became a mod? Furthermore, it says "2 candidates" but only one shows up here:

@user1271772 that does appear to be a bug, arguably. I would expect that Charlie's name would show in the results.
It seems wrong that it doesn't.

According to how things worked on the recent Fitness.SE election results page, and the algorithm deduced from that behavior, I would think that Charlie would be listed there, haha
But it was in the early days of pro tempore elections.

Yeah, I'd expect it was due to pro-tem elections being somewhat experimental at the time. I know they've done a bunch of work with the election tooling in general recently.

Yea true
2019 was not TOO new for pro-tem elections, a few had been done in 2018 already.
But the behavior we're seeing now might be the result of some of the new elections infrastructure that was recently added.
I'm just guessing.

It's precisely the way I explained yesterday, compare the results with the second banner: spanish.stackexchange.com/election spanish.stackexchange.com/election/1

Does it have a meaning?

Hardly a meaning.... :D

has existed pretty much forever... it exists pretty much as a fallback AFAIK

well perhaps I jumped the gun then... meta.stackexchange.com/questions/369006/…
I was used to see a simple text above the answers

Were you perhaps editing the post at the time?

nope, but might be because this a windows, and not the mac I'm used to

@Luuklag at the very least, it's using this JavaScript function: StackExchange.notify.show("message")

12:21 PM
@Mithical Could be that the PC came back from sleep / installing updates automagically (FFS stupid windows)

Rob
12:44 PM
@Luuklag Used to be below the top bar, so it's a question for the sticky top bar announcement.

@Rob nope, I'm pretty sure it was always there.

@Rob I've never seen it in Orange before though, if you wan't you can add it as a comment to my Q

It's some old version of live refresh.

@Rob No, it's always been above.
(When the old-style banner appears.)
For instance, on Area 51 when you're logged out you can see the same style banner.

Rob
That orange was another issue. It looks like they are adding their bugs together and revisiting them.

12:52 PM
@Rob nah
Not this time.
I dislike the change of top bar and yet another feature they take away without any warning, but it's not related to what @Luuklag reported.
As others said, it's some fallback due to connection blip.
@g3rv4 you are now a dev right? You can put an end to this never ending discussion with one look in the code. ;)
sips Mocha slowly

In an interesting turn of events, I join the chat sufficiently caffeinated this morning.

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 :) what's the discussion?

The monstrosity on my screenshot that is an orange bar in top

Q: Can we please remove the weird looking orange banner that appears when a new answer is posted while I view a question?

LuuklagI don't know when this came to be, or if this is the reason we can't have nice things like disabled stickyness on the topbar but it looks godawfull. What was wrong with the old pop-up above the answers?

@g3rv4 this:

I don't think it's a bug, just fallback when the ordinary AJAX fails.

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 if you drink it, it's probably a cure for everything including life

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Didn't you need to drink Bleach according to Trump?

I thought you were supposed to drink it to cure autism, and inject it to cure Covid.
Bleach really is an all-purpose cleaning supply ;)

@Luuklag Trump is down, so need to think of new, better, ideas! :D

2:25 PM
@Tinkeringbell It does kill viruses very efficiently, that is sure

@MadScientist also... quite a lot of biological cells

@MadScientist It kills clothes too. And then there's that one time at work I didn't realize someone had just put another cleaning thing in the toilet, and I went about cleaning them with bleach as usual... the resulting stench nearly killed people too XD

most organic chemicals don't react well to strong oxidizing agents

@Tinkeringbell ouch lol
I love playing a game "Blue to Yellow" when possible. #noNeedToExplain
:D

@Tinkeringbell depending on what you mixed that was either chlorine gas or chloramines, both are very nasty

2:31 PM
@MadScientist Yep. Every bottle clearly states 'Do not mix with other cleaning supplies'... but that requires you to know that someone just squirted a bunch of other cleaning supply into a toilet.

@Tinkeringbell stick a paper on the door, whoever clean will have to write down exact time and what they put in the toilets. Problem solved. ;)

Strong oxidising agents are also a favorite way of setting the solid waste bins on fire in the lab if you're not careful

@MadScientist Yeah, I think the bottle said chlorine gas.

(or if you mean toilets at work have only the janitor clean the toilets with those things)

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 I doubt it would've worked. Most co-workers at that job were mentally disabled to an extent, and would probably have just ignored the form or not known what to do with it.

2:35 PM
@Tinkeringbell can't help myself: (Is that why they hired you? ;) )

@Luuklag Most likely :P

@Tinkeringbell so my other option; don't let them use anything, except toilet brush. Leave the chemicals to a janitor.

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Ouch! I was a well respected cash-register worker, not a janitor! :P
We didn't have a janitor there.

aren't most of them coloured anyway? So you'd usually see that there is something already in there

@Tinkeringbell so hire one? ;)
@MadScientist yeah at my work place they use something blue-ish.

2:38 PM
@MadScientist The bleach I have is just uncoloured I think

@MadScientist Yes, most of them are... This one was yellow and didn't show up all that distinctly in a toilet so old that it too looks yellow.
That, combined with the fact that I prefer not to look at what customers have done to the toilet and just douse it in bleach.

XD Of course it is... I'm not entirely stupid :P

2:58 PM
@Tinkeringbell Napalm

Bit too drastic.

@SPArcheon I love the smell of Napalm in the toilet :P

@Tinkeringbell the drastic solution was alkaest

yes that one.
> which was supposed to be capable of dissolving any other substance,
Basically, the one that should already be used for spam posts.

@Ollie I even said they were super nitpicky! ;-) I debated putting it up at all, but I figured it was waaaaay too nitpicky for a dedicated question, so if I wanted the phrasing fixed it was either post an answer now or forever hold my nitpicky peace :-p
...and of course that promptly gets more upvotes than my answer pointing out help center phrasing that's objectively wrong 😂

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 orange-flavored cure. I see nothing wrong with that

@RyanM I'm sad that I'm the lone upvoter on that one.

@Spevacus No, someone else has upvoted it now :-)

Q: Review queue workflows - Final release

Lisa ParkAll good things must come to an end and so must the review queues project. This project would not have been successful without the community. Thank you all for the hours of reviewing, testing, and sharing your feedback along the way. With that said, this will be our final major release. In this p...

"final"
a better title would be wrapping up the "review queue workflows" project, surely it's not the final change to the review queues!

Rob
4:12 PM
> "What about issue X, Y, Z?

As mentioned earlier, this is our final major release. We will not be pursuing the proposed suggested tasks feature at this time. We didn't feel that it was going to significantly increase curation activities on the site and therefore didn't warrant the high development cost." .

final major release of what?
the review queue workflows project?

What was the proposed suggested tasks feature? I think I missed that one.

Number 2?
Lotta people leaving recently.

I am pleased to announce that Stack Overflow just added another team member in an officially paid capacity: Jarrod Dixon. Jarrod and I met on the job in 2002, and became fast friends. Here was the rare programmer who loved to code every bit as much as I did. It was our calling, and we…

Pure speculation, but it could be that a number of earlyish employees are suddenly much wealthier and more open to trying new things.

User number 3, valued associate number 2. Crazy.

@RyanM Always a good thing.

Indeed! Always unfortunate to lose experienced folks, but it could very well be that there wasn't anything wrong that caused their departure.
And it's good if the people that built SE are rewarded handsomely for that :-)

Either that, or some really bad news is about to be dropped in the near future. Fingers crossed it's the former :P

@Dudecoinheringaahing Announcement: Stack Overflow has been sold again to Amazon, Prime users get double rep and one free bounty per month.

@RyanM You forgot the free swag shipping!

That might confuse anyone who just drops by and looks at the starboard :P

At least it's not Mithical.

@Ollie Free two-day swag shipping

@RyanM :O !

@RyanM and 6-8 days for regular users?

Exactly ;-)

You'll jinx it.

@KevinB isn't it time for a different emoji?

@Dudecoinheringaahing did I intentionally write it so that it would show up in that way in the starboard? ....maaaaaaybe. But also so that if people actually click through, they'll see what it's a reply to :-)
dang it I just realized it should've been a link to a rickroll

@Ollie i mean, it's the only emoji that describes the event accurately

@Dudecoinheringaahing nice! Keep it up, keep it up.

@Tinkeringbell People stopped posting spam and lost souls :P

Rob
@RyanM I believe that these categories of Feedbacks fall into the "suggested tasks" category: meta.stackexchange.com/a/346913/282094 (very old suggestion from popular user: meta.stackexchange.com/q/236537/282094) and go as far as: meta.stackoverflow.com/q/406870/3648282 or meta.stackoverflow.com/a/402479/3648282 , even meta.stackoverflow.com/q/381733/3648282 etc.

@Dudecoinheringaahing Next objective: Earn it on as many sites as possible.

@Dudecoinheringaahing I saw plenty of lost souls today... Just that Glorfindel often beats me to deleting them, as I don't have the userscript on my work laptop.

4:58 PM
I'm gonna need about 223 more selfie answers for that badge...spread over at least three days.

@Tinkeringbell I mainly just watch meta.stackexchange.com/questions?tab=Active whenever I;m active, so I miss quite a lot tbh :P

@Tinkeringbell as do I, rene, PolyGeo, etc. Means you get to rest more!

@Mithical I've been meaning to sign up for Charcoal tbh

@Dudecoinheringaahing Join usssssss

@Ollie rest? Or work :P

5:00 PM
I've been trying to get Marshal on Law for aaaaages...trouble is, I got close-vote privileges after my first post, so I've flagged exactly one question as off-topic.

@Tinkeringbell rest.

@Spevacus I've looked into it, but found it kinda confusing

It has a rather high learning curve.

@Dudecoinheringaahing I might be able to answer questions. Head over to room 11540?

@Dudecoinheringaahing So did I. They helped me sort it out; we'll do the same.

5:01 PM
Folks in Charcoal are super friendly, though, and are more than happy to answer questions.

Yep. Just ask all the questions and they'll happily copy-paste answers from somewhere for you :P

Copy-paste the answers from somewhere, and toss in a free spam link, too!
...errr, wait, that's the spammers that do that.

@Tinkeringbell because there's next to no spam activity on MSE (relatively speaking).
Now SO is much more fun.

I only have 19 helpful flags on SO.
Most of them from SmokeDetector

@Tinkeringbell 276.

i'll likely get marshal on MSE before SO

@Tinkeringbell I have 759 helpful spam flags on SO :-)

5:09 PM
@Tinkeringbell have you been paying attention? What about all the Coinbase stuff?

674 Helpful spam flags on SO here

@Ollie I have not, like I said I let SmokeDetector do that stuff for me :P

They are... Quite insistent.

@RyanM Makyen has almost 10 times that: 7244.

Makyen is not of this plane.

5:10 PM
@Spevacus hypothetically, if you were a spammer, how would you go about annoying us?

flags from a bot don't count'

Or is that not meant to be said.

Rob
His flags are single user, automatically approved.

@Ollie That's helpful flags. I have 3737 of those :-)

@Ollie If I was intent on annoying Charcoal, we'd be in trouble. ;)
@RyanM brb running the network-wide flag count script

5:15 PM
@Ollie If I was a spammer my goal wouldn't be to annoy Charcoal. My goal would be to... Spam. But if my only goal was to annoy Charcoal, I'd create a bot that only reports non spammy reports to a chatroom and call it "Fireplace"

@Spevacus not a bad idea.

Rob
There were some annoying posts, but personally I found them inventive and creative - they demonstrated what needed fixing.

If I wanted to annoy Charcoal I'd constantly post innocuous questions about keto.

On a new account. Every time.

With usernames consisting of home row keysmashes.

Sorry I said anything now - we know that certain buggers monitor the chat transcripts...

I often wonder if you know what that word means ...

You could even say they've

bugged the chat
I'll see myself out :P

@Rob in the UK, a mild swearword.

Ah, there we go. The flag counter finished running.

Q: Stack Exchange Global Flag Summary

None of those are autoflags, either.

Still running.

5:26 PM
Do you not opt into autoflagging at all?

@RyanM Fine, fine. Deduct... 2500 of those as autoflags.

@Spevacus I don't. Partly because it means I always get to cast a manual flag when I'm around :-)

I have 769 helpful flags, 501 of which are here (65%), and 240 of which are on CGCC/CGCC Meta :P
None of them auto-flags, very impressive, I know :P

Here's mine:

@Spevacus nice! I might just clip you.

5:28 PM
Nice. That's a very high helpful percentage.

daaaang that accuracy

390-ish of those were cast for me, but I'd argue a large number of those I was actually present for.

That's impressive.

@Spevacus still not sure on the autoflagging. Is that FIRE?

@Ollie Nah just on Metasmoke's flagging page. Let me see if I can bully my way into yours...

5:31 PM
@Spevacus gitouttathere.

Huh, I can, but it's awkward. It shows the total number of my own autoflags (unless you happen to also have 393 total)
But I CAN see your most recent autoflags, which is cool.
(Also, thanks for the remarks about the helpful % guys! <3)

@Spevacus where does it say that?

Oh it's just for me, because I used a hacky method to show me your autoflag history. For anyone else it'd show their autoflag count.
I wonder if it's intentional that I can do what I just did... Maybe I should say something about that :P

@Spevacus show meeeee, I implore you ;)
I love hacks.

I'll explain over in Charcoal HQ, I've derailed conversation here enough already ;)

Rob
6:09 PM
@Ollie You can optionally choose to be more aggressive with your settings, at the risk of being rejected. Currently you fall well behind what you could voluntarily do, if you want more flags. & @Spe

6:28 PM
@Rob Ollie isn't actually a Core member, so he's less likely to have his profile used for autoflags, but yes, he could probably make his conditions more open (as could I, mine are somewhat tight)

Rob
I moved mine away from tight, to reduce my rejections; I used to have it set as close to the limit as possible.
Anyone can use Autoflags, one doesn't need to be Core,or have any extended privileges.

Yeah, but Core users do have a higher chance of having their name pulled out of the metaphorical hat when selecting users to flag on behalf of.

Rob
True, but he seems rather low; at one flag per many days.

Before I got Core, I was in the same boat. I was lucky to get one once every couple of weeks.
Admittedly, though, my conditions were wonky.

Rob
He probably has default settings, which IIRC are 100%.

6:36 PM
Something like that yeah

these questions are dupes I think but not sure which way to flag 'em

Rob
@Spevacus For example, @Oll has more permissions than these two unnamed users (with the least amount of permission), yet is only ~2-3x better off.

7:33 PM
I will not be updating any FAQs about the review system until all the kinks have ironed out.
