How do you know? Did you do the clone testing?
WHAT'S STROOPWAFFELS' MOST FAVORITE COLOR? HUH HUH HUH?
WHAT DID STROOPWAFEL DO FIVE YEARS AGO THAT CAUSED A LOT OF EMBARRASMENT?

Rob
@DavidPostill + List: According to the Room Configuration, here: github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/blob/master/rooms.yml#L373 - That Help link will enable you to decrypt the second link.

Also the single F looks so wrong.

@M.A.R. Not to a Dutch speaker :)

Well Dutch is wrong (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

@M.A.R. Gedraag je!
Dutch is never wrong.

8:09 PM
No YOU drag the mumble mumble

@M.A.R. DavidPostill slaat M.A.R een beetje rond met een grote forel

@DavidPostill bless you

Jij ook gezondheid, @M.A.R. !

Rob

Is je pronounced like the first syllable of Germany or like "Yeah"?
@Tinkeringbell I understood that one

Rob
8:11 PM
Speaks for itself

@M.A.R. Neither :P

Runs out and shouts Eureka
@Tinkeringbell Like "year"?

More like 'duh' but with j in front?

@DavidPostill I read it as "DavidPostill slit M.A.R and beetle round meet and great funeral". Well at least you make the funeral great. ;)

@Tinkeringbell Aha

8:13 PM
Plus, not fair that most people here knows Dutch and I don't... Boo hoo... :P

@DavidPostill hey, I can totally involve animal rights crap on you you know
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Let's talk, you in Hebrew, me in Persian

@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's a translation of "DavidPostill slaps M.A.R around a bit with a large trout", you will have to ask @Tinkeringbell if google translate got it right as my Dutch is fairly basic :)
BTW does this room have a bot?

@Bart you can take them all! hiding tracking device in each

@DavidPostill Yes, @Mith

Rob
A few

8:14 PM
@M.A.R. LOL

@M.A.R. עשינו עסק

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Won't he just . . . defecate the devices?
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Bless you

@DavidPostill only Smokey, for fun bots go to my Den. ;)

@M.A.R. Oy! That's not public information!

خوب دیگه خسته نباشید. فکر کنم باید برم بخوابم

8:16 PM
@M.A.R. that's the goal.

my Farsi is rusty

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Aha you're tracking the toilets

or, rather, nonexistent

My Rusty is farsi.

Rust crumbles and scatters
من فارسی ام خوب نیست

8:17 PM
@M.A.R. smart boy! :D

My dad used to be able to swear in Hindi

Rob
He used that to ...

@M.A.R. Amazing I can still identify some letters, learned Arabic during school, but can't decipher any meaning.

@M.A.R. which languages do you speak again

Ich sprechen kein Niederlandisch
Nur ein Wenig Deutsch
@Mithical depends on my settings
Whoops
Well, it's not like you can hack me or anything. I was built by the amazing code shared in SO questions . . .

8:20 PM
Now who's the bot

E.g. this half circle with dot in the middle is the "N", right? @M.A.R

Aye. ن

م is m
M looks cool in every language

Only in the end, no?

8:20 PM
Yep
من = I

Huh, that I didn't remember

ام = mine, with the quirk that it lingers on word endings
@ShadowWizardWearingMask That's Persian "I"
Arabic "I" is انا
/ænæ/
Take Anna and squish like you mean it

Ana! Right!
vivid memories from 9th grade return
image of the teacher is imprinted on the memory, hiding all other things

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Noemi?

I had teacher named Ichlas... Young... Somehow I got 100 on all tests, no idea how.
@Mithical nah, it's אני in Arabic.

8:26 PM
Because it was the 9th grade, duh
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Well, vowels are slightly shorter

Nah, had 70 in some fields, e.g. History.

Tsk tsk tsk
There was a fancy word for languages with varying vowel lengths
Arabic has varying vowel lengths.

With a teacher who looked 70 and was likely half that age... Smoked her lungs out...

And then comes reciting artfully. If you listen to some professionals reciting quran, sometimes they keep at a vowel for six whole seconds

Interesting how students focus more on the teachers than on the studies back in school.

8:28 PM
Almost like an opera singer
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Nah, not really.
You remember images better. And teachers have a clear mental image.
I actually dunno what I remember from the 9th grade. Only vaguely the math teacher's face.

@M.A.R. think same with Bible, not sure.

Who looked like Tom Hanks + Turk soldier

It has special characters around the letters telling how one should emphasize them when reading aloud.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask All Bible reciting I've seen has been in movies. They either recite like they're possessed or it's a badass character symbolizing something

I recited few passages when I was 13...

8:31 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Consonants, or vowels?

@M.A.R. not vowels, so probably the first

That consonant emphasis is a big part of Arabic and Persian. If the last letter of a syllable is the same as the first on the next, we stress it for some length

Nice... And tricky. ;)

Not really, no
Unless a literature teacher insists on the mark's existence in a spelling test

So, "children" is "walad"? @M.A.R

8:34 PM
In Arabic

بچه bache

Which has that mark I said, so the /tʃ/ is emphasized like you're choking on it
Baccccche
Or فرزند Farzand

Right, and half circle with dot below it is the "B"

8:36 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Actually, all ^ are "child". "children" is اولاد in Arabic. An irregular plural

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Not really a half circle ب
It's neater.

coming to @M.A.R's house for private lessons

Why don't I just post the Persian alphabet?
آ ا ب پ ت ث ج چ ح خ د ذ ر ز ژ س ش ص ض ط ظ ع غ ف ق ک گ ل م ن و ه ی

wondering what @Bart is doing there

8:38 PM
The four letters پ چ ژ گ are Persian-only
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Terrorizing the drop nation

@M.A.R. The RTL script makes that text difficult to select

@SonictheMaskedWerehog End your selection on bottom left

Now take this:

If you're writing in RTL, that's the least of your problems. Hebrew users know why

8:40 PM
אבגדהוזחטיכלמנסעפקצרשתךףץ

Aw that's so cute

I would disagree with that order

blush
@Mithical why

Which letter does ' belong to?

א ב ג ד ה ו ז ח ט י כ ך ל מ נ ס ע פ ף צ ץ ק ר ש ת

8:42 PM
@M.A.R. what do you mean? The small י is like I or Y, usually.

So it's a letter?

no

Sounds like a cop out. We have more letters anyway.

I think @M.A.R. is asking about the chipchuk

8:43 PM
Yeah I'm asking about the chipmunk

like the one that gets stuck after a ג to make a "j" sound

@Mithical you forgot ם and ן

I did

@Mithical ohhh lol

To answer your unasked question, Persian and Arabic share a lot of vocabulary. Often other Persian words have Arabic roots but have changed substantially over time.

8:44 PM
Going to say night to wife, brb

א ב ב ג ד ה ו ז ח ט י כ ך ל מ ם נ ן ס ע פ פ ף צ ץ ק ר ש ש ת

If it's that different though, it must be a word from middle Persian, if not borrowed from English, Turkish or a few other languages

@ShadowWizardWearingMask You are not going to bed with her?!

He's of course doing the late night family guy thing

@DavidPostill They may not be in the same location

8:48 PM
@DavidPostill Nope. Only when we're in vacation.

@SonictheMaskedWerehog One bed may be levitating

@SonictheMaskedWerehog we are, but we have different sleeping hours.

Yeah. She sleeps from 0:00 to 8:00, and @Sha sleeps from 6:00 to 8:00

She goes to sleep around 11 (pm), I go to sleep around 3.(am)

At least that's my experience

8:50 PM
> around 11
> 11:50PM

@Sha you need to unite with me in smacking @Mith

She wakes up at 6 or so, and wakes me in 7, maybe bit before.

Alone, I don't have much power against a cruel and powerful authority

<insert @Zoe sad face>

@Mithical writing ברכות to the teachers kept her awake longer today. Tomorrow last day of school...

8:51 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Ah

Yet another one of the cruel and powerful authority's tricks

@Mithical duplicate פ
But nicely done. ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask intentional

@Mithical why?? Lol

pay / phay

8:53 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask How do you manage on <4 hours sleep?

@DavidPostill Have you met Shadow? If so, can you honestly believe that he manages?
:P

@DavidPostill twice this amount of coffee cups
@Mithical 1:0
:D

by rights there probably should have been two ף as well

@Mithical but... Why?
@Mithical oh... Yeah

;)
you could argue for two or even three ת. defining what a letter is is apparently difficult

8:56 PM
@DavidPostill By such atrocities as mixing chocolate and coffee

@M.A.R. yup. Dishes, folding clothes, then 1-2 hours for myself.

Yes, I still haven't forgiven you for that

Anyway, at 3 am I join my sleeping wife in same bed. @David

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Obligatory XKCD ;-)

LOL
So true.
But she never calls me to bed.

8:58 PM
@M.A.R. I'm about to mix caramel and coffee (I like dunking my stroopwafels) 😂

Twix!
I bought today small round biscuits with coffee filling.
(cream)

@DavidPostill That's OK, just do not insult the holy chocolate by mixing it with infidels

hot chocolate + coffee + vanilla soymilk

nah, it's good

9:02 PM
Soy makes it.. Less good for me. ;)

Maybe throw in pickles and salt fish while you're at it.

no

And maple syrup

@ShadowWizardWearingMask it just tastes like vanilla

And fried eggs

9:03 PM
I SHALL NOT STAND FOR THESE DISINGENUOUS ACCUSATIONS
*sits down and sips*

@Mithical not like טבעול?

I'm not familiar with that word

Stop talking in that weird language dangit
Where almost every word has the same height
Note to self: Never be a dyslexic in Hebrew in the future

Here they are!

@M.A.R. So I guess you don't like Unholy Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Glaze?

9:05 PM
@M.A.R. lol
Also ל is taller

Wow by a whole millimeter
That changes everything

That sounds, excessive
The one that leaves you in the toilet for the rest of the day

Only the first time

9:10 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask About the only thing I understand on the page is the CC BY-SA 3.0 link :)

@DavidPostill Seriously, Hebrew looks really scary and hard to follow
Books in Hebrew should be triple or quadruple columned

no, that's russian you're thinking of

in English Language & Usage: Multi-Layered Discourse Room on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, Apr 19 '19 at 20:09, by M.A.R. ಠ_ಠ
@Færd IKR, to me Cyrillic looks like carvings of an angry man on stone

@M.A.R. I would say the same about Persian and Arabic ...

@DavidPostill That's because they are hard to follow if the closest language you know is English

9:14 PM
@M.A.R. So they look like they are. That's a good thing. No hiding behind a disguise :)

Totally different syntax system, even from each other. Letters that stick or don't stick. WTF?

Rob
E҉n҉g҉l҉i҉s҉h҉ w҉r҉i҉t҉i҉n҉g҉ i҉s҉ s҉o҉ m҉u҉c҉h҉ e҉a҉s҉i҉e҉r҉ t҉o҉ r҉e҉a҉d҉.

ouch

But every letter in Hebrew looks like at least two other letters, like really much. In Persian you have س and ش, ب and پ but since what they differ in is dots, they look different in a big enough font
@Rob Whatever you carved that in is bleeding.
Just to let you know.

@DavidPostill no English wiki, but you can read about it here: osem.co.il/en/factory/tivall

Rob
9:17 PM
With English and Latin characters the top half can be obscured and one can still read what is written.

Since childhood, soy is associated with that company for me. :)

@Rob And you can rearrange the letters and still read it.
"It deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe."
@M.A.R. Does rearranging like that ^^^ work in Persian?
😂
Well that made it very quiet here ...

Rob
I find all of that almost extremely easy to read quickly.

Indeed

Rob
People attempting Google Translate crashed their computers and got cut off by their ISP.
@ShadowWizardWearingMask This is the real McSoy:
Their chilli sauce is great too.

9:43 PM
@rene That answer seems highly relevant lol

:D

And now it is highly gone

Rob
@rene From ABK6 to Zwarte Kip.

lekker langzaam
