joke theory: staff is playing 7D chess because they are all themselves tired of the decades old problems and want change now, but they can't do it themselves, so they force the community's hand by doing all the wrong moves, intentionally :p
I don't want to say anything about Sara because it's rude to talk badly about someone you don't know but I just read all of George's tweet and I don't think you can come away from reading that and ask how can we make people feel heard...... he kinda spells it out.
@LinkBerest that was something I wanted to ask as a non-native English speaker. Is that actually used?? "Brown"? Forgive me, but I seriously never heard that before today.
@SPArchaeologist-様 no, calling anyone Hispanic, Indian (i.e. from India), Native American, Middle Eastern, or really anyone else "brown" is typically considered a bad thing in the US (there are worse terms mind you, but that really sounded like brown people statements I hear from the worst people)
@Mgetz this chat room isn't the place to educate others about why some words or phrases are historically problematic, plus I don't think I could do the topic justice
