There are... a lot... of duplicates... — Shog9 ♦ 19 mins ago
@Shog9 Now that, per your recent answer, the system has been changed to no longer reject old migrations such as this case, can my request to have the migration history on this recently rejected migration cleared be reconsidered?
I had requested this a long time ago on a different question, and it was declined at that time, but you recently went ahead and did so. Thanks!

3:39 AM
@SonictheBracketedHedgehog we have these amazing things called flags
they let anyone with moderator powers see a request
and sometimes decline them
Pinging people directly with requests, not cool.
Granted, without a good reason to why a clearing of history does some measurable good, I'd decline it.
But I have 5 minutes. Convince me, and I'll clear the history.

Q: Sandbox ad on right side of screen doesn't use HTTPS

StormblessedI recently saw this ad on Worldbuilding: I hovered over it and saw that this is the link it goes to: http://worldbuilding.meta.stackexchange.com/ads/ct/7073?url=https%3a%2f%2fworldbuilding.meta.stackexchange.com%2fquestions%2f7183%2fsandbox-for-proposed-questions&s=180e2f25810f79c41228e12f54d...

A nice, pedantic bug report (thought Main Meta people might care more)

Yeah, it's network-wide issue
I think the newer one about "SO for Teams" are using HTTPS, but the rest (including community ads) aren't

4:00 AM
@MetaAndrewT. I don't get why the network would use Google ads for something that's just between their different sites, seems like a weird waste of time rather than just linking to a webpage from an image to me

(sorry, not Google Ads, but DoubleClick for Publishers, which is renamed to Google Ad Manager)
7
A: Does Stack Overflow use Google Adsense again?

John BubriskiI'm a dev on the Ad Server Team here, and AFAIK we don't use AdSense. We do use DFP (DoubleClick for Publishers) which is an AdServer. So we use that to serve up our own ads. And I believe that we route links through DFP for click-tracking. Also, they just renamed DFP to Google Ad Manager

@JourneymanGeek Is "the system no longer marks migrations as 'rejected' in this case"?

That's not measurable good
that's "eh, it dosen't fit how things work now"

I once flagged one of my posts from my old account that was automatically deleted as negatively scored upon deletion for undeletion on the grounds that the system no longer automatically deletes them, and it was completed

It might have been a useful post
who knows
But you're missing the point

4:08 AM
@JourneymanGeek Shog was the one who answered the relevant FR. He also just now went ahead and carried out the exact same request on another question where I had requested the exact same thing but was declined at that time

@SonictheBracketedHedgehog so points of order.
I believe shog asked not to be pinged in the past
It's something a mod can do
You're completely missing even telling me why clearing migration history even helps, bringing up many past incidents of dubious relevance
Let's try again.

Now that I've read the question, you're right, it doesn't really help.

'Why?'

Not too many views, which means it isn't receiving a lot of traffic
Plus the fact that it's opinion-based and off-topic

Yup. So you essentially pinged Shog for no reason ;p

4:15 AM
Shog likes to make certain moves that don't serve much of a purpose other than for pure symbolism on occasion, so I figured I'd turn his attention to this one with a higher score which he might as well process along with the other one.

I'd even dare say maybe you could bring these sorta items up here, listen to the discussion and decide on appropriate actions without needing particular people to handle it
@SonictheBracketedHedgehog Shog works in mysterious ways.
3
That said let's not disturb our CMs unless no one else can handle it
Even as a mod I often discuss decisions with other mods first. We only ask for help on the most fun decisions
'fun'

Fun. Bah humbug.

It's Friday though?

dang! ebay rejected my 10K SO Rep listing - maybe when the bounty system is in place ;-) — Steven A. Lowe Jan 8 '09 at 17:32

5:33 AM
@MetaAndrewT. is nooooooott
If it was I'd have work tommorrow night :/
should be getting some fun toys today

@JourneymanGeek toys?
Aren't you a bit too old for those?

Rob
You can never be too old for toys!

5:48 AM
I've been doing growing up all wrong then.

Rob
The next toy I'm dying to get my hands on is a VR headset. But those all run $500+ and the ones I'd been looking at are around $1k... plus I'll need to massively upgrade my computer, which is another $1k or so.. so... that's not happening any time soon :(

I find VR a bit overrated ...
Tried it a few times now, not my thing.
Just upgrade the PC and enjoy that ;)

Rob
Yeah, lots of the games for it are a bit gimmicky and probably will get boring after not very long. Mainly interested in it for flight sims, though
For that, VR is a pretty big step up
Unfortunately it means you can't skimp out on a cheap headset :(
Crossing my fingers that prices will drop a bit when valve releases theirs.. but we'll see

@Rob That does sound expensive, yes... And never have a cheap headset. They ruin so much sound, even if you're doing something simple like listening to music or watching a movie.

Rob
Ah, not so much the sound, but the screen
A lot of them aren't clear enough to read text, for example

5:57 AM
Oh yeah... That kind of headset XD
True though. The ones I tried were like that...

morn

Hi :)

Rob
o/

6:28 AM
@rene Why is it necessary to ask for delete votes if closed and negative-scoring questions get automatically deleted after a short amount of time?

@forest because 10 days is not a short time and we don't want to give the impression on the casual passer-by that such questions are OK here. They can stick rather long to the front page.

ah

@Tinkeringbell never
My dad got a Android head unit for his other car
I got an arm sbc with 2 Ethernet ports

7:21 AM
@Marshmallow ...sure...

7:40 AM
@JourneymanGeek I'll be getting vacation money in a few weeks, and I think I'll be spending a big part of it on new yarn ;)
Does that count as 'toys' too?

Since you play with it~ :)

It is a parrot, not a cat ...

8:07 AM
@MetaAndrewT. Do I play with it though? I know my grandma doesn't knit or crochet or sew on Sundays, she still sees it as work, not leisure ;)

@Tinkeringbell Well you do it for enjoyment don't you?

@Magisch Mostly because it's mind-numbing ;)
mindless?

That doesn't sound very fun

Anyway, I can do it with my brain turned off ;)

but I know what you mean

8:14 AM
Just count... it's like counting sheep before you go to sleep

often times when I come home for work, I don't have the mental energy left to play e.g a very complex and challenging video game
or read high fantasy books.

It's not as much of an energy thing as that it's just also a great way to calm down. If I'm already tired I don't need calming down ;)

@Tinkeringbell now I have the party parrot gif in my head

@Magisch Not that kind of calming down :P
Don't worry, I'm never THAT active XD
More the kind of 'My coworker has been so frustrating today, I need to calm down' ;)

8:33 AM
40 messages moved to Chimney

@Tinkeringbell tooooyyyssss

@JourneymanGeek Enjoy! :D

That's a car head unit hooked up to a jerryrigged power supply

I think there's enough wire there to crochet something...

8:46 AM
@Tinkeringbell then you need to wire some money for journey to buy more
I got nothing that was my best pun out of the situation

I mean, it'd be a powerful crochet project.

@JourneymanGeek I see you are a trained professional. We can trust you.

@rene Because safety is our number one... what's that burning smell?

:D

9:01 AM
(that kinda happened)
that said I worked out you needed to jumper the ACC wire to the +12 wire so I just swapped to a wallwart

3 hours later…
11:40 AM
For God's sake.
What part of meta.SE looks like an Ansible help forum.
WTH is Ansible anyway. Some sort of internetism for "answerable"?

An ansible is a category of fictional device or technology capable of near-instantaneous or superluminal communication. It can send and receive messages to and from a corresponding device over any distance or obstacle whatsoever with no delay, even between star systems. As a name for such a device, the word "ansible" first appeared in a 1966 novel by Ursula K. Le Guin. Since that time, the term has been broadly used in the works of numerous science fiction authors, across a variety of settings and continuities. == Coinage by Ursula Le Guin == Ursula K. Le Guin coined the word "ansible" in her 1966...

Well the number of OT questions we get doesn't seem fictional.

I've cleaned them up... you can just ask you know, instead of ranting XD :P

12:08 PM
lots of transifex

@Magisch Heh, yeah. You can see ruSO has a new mod :P

1 hour later…
1:35 PM
I sneaked in on a presentation at a local Municipality. The presentation computer is currently showing how Windows 7 Enterprise is updating. 40+ staff in the room .... It is stuck at Installing update 1 of 2 for the last 10 minutes ...

Are you sure it's not a presentation of windows updates?

@rene Heh, that's how people get payed for playing Candy Crush.

@Tinkeringbell I'm sure. It is about WMO

@rene Ah, the infamous WMO.
My mom has stories about that...

yeah, do more with less. More work/support with less money.

1:38 PM
@rene I read an article yesterday that claimed if women would just work more, our bbp would raise significantly and that could be used to fix society.
I do hope they switch to basic incomes sometime soon, so I can stop working.
I love the premise that women should work more to reach equality, instead of having men work less :P
It's really reading like no-one ever thought about anything..
Anyhow, that's how you fix WMO too :P

Hmm, interesting insight.
I'll put it on the flipover ....
and then leave ....

2:31 PM
(stolen from the social networks. But seems appropriate... glances shiftily)

2:46 PM
stopped Shadow The Curly Braced Wizard

3:39 PM
this is me right now
hmm
Anyone else having the notification thing on the top bar not load?

looks like an issue. I blamed train wifi
something bad happened
error 500
something bad happened

Yeah, broken for me too. The one in chat works, though.

https://meta.stackexchange.com/topbar/inbox gives a 302 and then stalls

Meta post posted then

we all panic?

3:53 PM
@rene nah. Keep calm and crochet!

apparently one person is happy its broken
and downvoted me 0_0

I dropped the meta post in our dev chat. I'm having the issue too!

@JourneymanGeek or it's not broken for that person, or they're a cat person.

And . . . fixed.

Oi!

3:56 PM
@JonEricson That's fast!

I assume whoever caused the problem noticed it right away and rolled it back.

I guess the 500 errors kind of lit up in the monitoring tooling (Bosun)

Do rollbacks count as fixes?

yes

3:58 PM
Hahahaha

In fact it's an important sort of fix

Nice to see people can sometimes so easily agree on stuff :P
@JourneymanGeek fix to me implies that the problem is fixed... Not just 'moved' :P

But there are other fixes needed to fix whatever fix the update was trying to fix.
It sounds like the only thing we know for sure is that the last update was broken. Nobody know why yet since it worked in dev.
(Though that does limit the number of things it could be.)

That are the best bugs
Just put the dev machine into production

@Tinkeringbell it's a quick mitigation if it's less broken

1 hour later…

2 hours later…
7:06 PM
uhm... has search been changed?

@KevinB It's apparently a bit borked right now ...

yeah, because i can't find canonicals no matter how i look for them with the site search, lol

Q: Search appears to be broken

OliviaSomething appears to be wrong with search in chat and on main. There's roughly 2 million posts containing "thanks" on Stack Overflow. Search claims there's none. The same on MSE - search yields no results regardless of what the search term is. Chat is not doing specifically better - any searc...

I was just trying to find out what Shog has had to say about spam and nothing showed up. So I must be crazy or search is broken.

I was trying to find the M&TV meta post about people who work in the film industry.

7:11 PM
I can't find my crochet pattern anymore...
But that's a different search ;)

Ravelry?

@Tinkeringbell Here you go

@Machavity That's knitted...
@Catija Yeah, I added it there but then I need to add it to a shopping cart, order it, and download it again.. While I am sure it's somewhere on my PC already...
I guess that's going to be quicker though...
Pffft. I need to clean up my PC.
