@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog That 40 minute rate limit goes away if you have > 125 rep on the site. If you have the association bonus, then you are not subject to that 40 minute limit on your home site. Picking 125 rep on the current site appears to intentionally make it such that the association bonus gets you closer, but does not eliminate it. Getting an additional 24 rep on a site you're interested in isn't that difficult. You can always try a VPN/proxy.

6:46 AM
@JourneymanGeek Arguably slightly more tolerable

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ isn't the leg the tough part?

7:21 AM
umm.... @Shog9 is this some internal joke? meta.stackexchange.com/users/134300/community Because at least for me, joke is missed. Obviously, SE staff changed the name from "user" to "Community" at some point, since suspended users can't change their name. Or can they?? Without the Community avatar it's not really misleading, but still, having that name, with 1 rep, is highly confusing, especially new users who have no idea what's going on. Can this be reset?

@ShadowWizard that user was unsuspended on other sites. I think this is how the name was changed.

7:38 AM
@MEEisJohannGambolputty... heh. Will start a bug report then.

I feel left out because I dunno who they are

@ShadowWizard that users can be unsuspended when they are suspended network-wide or that the name change propagates?

@MEEisJohannGambolputty... they can change name while suspended, that's a serious bug.
And like you see, can be easily abused.
Surprised he didn't choose some offensive name like he did before already.

Is that really a bug?

The name change should probably blocked from propagating as it does with migrations

7:44 AM
Morning btw.

@Tinkeringbell should suspended user be able to change their name?

Morning @Tinkeringbell

If they can, suspension is totally pointless.

at least in some cases.

@ShadowWizard I'm not sure, but I think if you're just suspended on 1 site, you can still change your name on others...

7:46 AM
I seem to remember a post where an employee states that you can't change profile infos during suspension.
@Tinkeringbell yes, but it shouldn't propagate to the site where you are suspended.

I must admit I never had a chance to try :P
But there's a 'copy this change to everywhere' button on profile edits, so I assumed that would do all profiles, and not exclude the ones you are suspended on.

@Tinkeringbell it could show a warning Oops, your profile couldn't be copied to all network sites: You are suspended on XY

@Tinkeringbell sure, but you shouldn't be able where suspended.
@MEEisJohannGambolputty... exactly :)

@MEEisJohannGambolputty... You are suspended on [list of 170+ suspended SE sites] -_-

@Bookends That sounds fun

7:52 AM
Maybe then You are suspended on X network sites @Bookends :)

Oh no, I don't wanna be suspended on 3D printing!

@ShadowWizard Okay, I'll see what happens to the bug report ;) I can't really find anything about not being supposed to be changing your name when suspended

Even after changing name on one site, if changing on other site and choosing Copy to All Sites, it's not changing where it was just changed, something Oded fixed few years ago.
(as result of someone heavily abusing it, changing their name like three times a day.)

Here is a related example for @Tinkeringbell meta.stackexchange.com/q/167171/364003

@Norm found a way around it, but well... that's Norm.

7:54 AM
Yeah, I know you're only supposed to be able to pick a new name once every 30 days

Smokey that's gotta be the dumbest plagiarism in the universe
@SmokeDetector K

@MEEisJohannGambolputty... Thanks, that makes sense, I guess. But it's not about names ;)

@Tinkeringbell same concept...

Isn't it more like an FR than a bug though? It's not unexpected behavior, just unwanted

I understand ;)

7:56 AM
Therefore I am

Therefor I don't understand

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I don't really feel like being yet.
That needs more coffee and perhaps another paracetamol.

@Bookends You're not allowed to just hand those to people unless you have proper certificates :P

@Tinkeringbell @M.A.R. can give him certificate

@Shadow It's possible for local moderators to unsuspend network-wide-suspended users on the site they moderate:
23
A: User is suspended network wide except not really

Adam LearHe was unsuspended manually by a moderator on Lifehacks. This is... probably intentional? The fact that something like this is possible in the first place may or may not be harmful, depending on the user and the site in question. We may revisit network suspensions to lock them down further, but...

This has been marked by design, so if you want to make this impossible, you should file a feature request.

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog I know.
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog no no. I don't care about it, just want that if the user change name on a site where not suspended, that change won't affect sites where they are still suspended.

Speaking of which, that brings up an interesting topic...the site they were unsuspended on is a site where they're a former elected moderator who left under good terms. As the normal rules allow elected moderators to request their positions back if they so choose, is it possible for him to request his moderator privileges be reinstated on SO?

PDF @Bart @rene

8:13 AM
Not sure, to be honest. I've never been suspended (: — Suvitruf 8 mins ago
"Madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push."

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog he can request, but there is strict rules that requires the user to be in "good standing" network wide, without being suspended at all in the last year, across the whole network.

I'm in good sitting

And if he'll be a mod on SO, I'll delete my account there.

Pretty comfy sofa
Oof ultimatum
Is that like a Samuel Jackson "I double dare you"?

nah
Just a fact. :)

8:15 AM
Ultimafactum

They say Ultima is a pretty good car actually

@ShadowWizard Technically the rule says that one can't nominate themselves as a candidate in a moderator election if suspended in the past year anywhere on the network. Does requesting reinstatement of moderator privileges previously obtained by being elected count?
Another implication I just remembered is that if he does get his moderator privileges on SO reinstated, he'll become a chat mod and therefore unaffected by suspension on Chat.SE.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ not just a car:
oh you can't see
It's a cute monster.

@ShadowWizard Why is that?

Hmm...somehow the sound of the ping is coming out through my speakers despite the rest of my system sounds coming out through my headphones

My mind immediately inserts a "of my nose" after "coming out"

@Mrs.Robinson and he ends with...
> Literally try and stop me bro
Let me translate from Twitterish to English

"Try to stop me from coming on your site that you own and break your rules"
that's instead must be polite and welcoming I assume?
Telling the guys that provide you a service that they can "try and enforce their rule but you won't stop because you know better"
still thinking that many users should realize that they are here because SE gives us a service that they have no obligation to provide.

stop and try me

Oh well, hope Mrs. Robinson will know what you talk about, I surely don't. :)
(nothing new, so all is good. ;))

@ShadowWizard see the message I was replying to, and then read the Twitter message he linked
All about a Twitter user lamenting that SE is still stripping "Thanks" from messages and comments

9:06 AM
oh. Missed the reply icon. blush

If only I can opine that SE should have a "Wikipedia article"-level post etiquette...

Guess I'm too used to not understand the context, so automatically assumed there's none. :D

My rant was that while I can accept that the user disagree on the current police....
Taunting the staff to "Try and stop him" from breaking the policy doesn't seem so polite

Well doubt anyone was/will be suspended for posting "thank you" comments. They're just being deleted.

Perhaps I'll edit and add "Thanks!" on every useful Wikipedia article I've read

9:14 AM
@Bookends problem is: Wikipedia is lucky, users don't perceive it as a forum

@ShadowWizard It's possible but rare
continuing to break the rules - no matter what rule it is - after you've been warned is grounds for a suspension, it just doesn't happen very often for chatty comments (except, like, on IPS)

I don't think IPS has sent out suspensions, just mod-messages reminding people what comments are for. (At least, I never have).

Well, there were suspensions, though unrelated to chatty comments

@Tinkeringbell Wait, do you mean that the legends about bad users being feed to the kraken parrot aren't true?

@Derpy no. They get nibbled to death by cats.

Eat some @soup with @meatballs.

9:27 AM
@ShadowWizard .... you stopped at the first result?
there was a better one just below. Ye ar' a lazy fellow...

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog I'm aware of a lot of the story. In theory under exceptional circumstances anything is possible. Practically those circumstances would be extraordinary

@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog That is between SO and the user and probably isn't our business to pry into.

I'm aware of the situation - and the folks involved, and frankly it seems like a reasonable and humane compromise

That said, it doesn't really matter since if they abuse the mod privileges, then it'll be stripped

And if the user in question proves themselves trustworthy enough to be a mod again... I think that's a great thing

9:31 AM
@Mithrandir And how we will fill the Monday daytime new episode of the StackExchange reality show?

@Derpy Fill with random unicorns ... and ponies
2

@Derpy yup :(
@Derpy oh, but not red.
@JourneymanGeek trustworthy on one site, destructive and abusive on other site? Sorry, that can't work.
Evan somehow manage to be troll-ish on MSE while keeping a good stand on SO without hint of making trouble, but as far as I know he was never suspended on MSE.
So that's example for something that can work.

Well technically the user in question was mainly trouble here and one other site. And apparently focused on one user. And that user probably is ok, and knows how to handle himself ;p

@Derpy Oh, I eat bad users raw for breakfast, don't worry. Chatty comments just isn't bad enough for me :P

9:49 AM
@Tinkeringbell +1 I agree

@ShadowWizard Hmmm. Perhaps you can be an afternoon snack in case I get hungry :P

I read "influencer" as "influenza" because I cannot differentiate "infuruensaa" and "infuruenza" in Japanese o_o;
and then, there comes "influenza influencer production"...

I'm an influenza influencer? :P

@Tinkeringbell you still have flu?? :(
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is an infectious disease caused by an influenza virus. Symptoms can be mild to severe. The most common symptoms include: high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing, sneezing, and feeling tired. These symptoms typically begin two days after exposure to the virus and most last less than a week. The cough, however, may last for more than two weeks. In children, there may be diarrhea and vomiting, but these are not common in adults. Diarrhea and vomiting occur more commonly in gastroenteritis, which is an unrelated disease and sometimes...

Hi @ShadowWizard, welcome to Tavern on the Meta. The issue you are describing has been a meme for years now. Have you been living under a rock all the time? To help you getting up-to-date, here are some other sample of self-destroying suggestions from LH:

A: What office equipment can I use to safely observe a solar eclipse?

panonskiRemember the floppy discs? We dug one out from our storage, opened it up and looked through the film sheet. Alternatively, a friend of mine took a lighter and a glass cup mat. He placed the glass mat above the lighter to get some soot onto it and watched it through the mat.

YEP, nothing works better than a floppy film sheet to protect your eyes.

subjectivistI did a Google search for "battery paperclip fire" finding many entries one of which is >> here Take an AA, AAA, C, or D size battery. Oh wait, they are here! Unless the @Ash here isn't the Ash in above link?

Nope, that's the right Ash ;)

:)

Followed by three mods.... :P

Ash (the dog) not to be confused with Ash (the SE mod) not to be confused with Ash (the byproduct of carbon abundant oxidation reactions)

not to be confused with (pot)ash the class of salts rich in potassium, not to be confused with (m)ash (the mixture) or (b)ash (the act of hitting something or criticising it harshly)

1:09 PM
not to be confused with bash for unix...

@ShadowWizard arquade mod

@Magisch What questionable interpretations? There's so many assertions being thrown around you need to be clearer which you mean

(d)ash is also one
"dash" also has meaning in Hebrew, it means "regards", in a way. :D

@ShadowWizard Apparently "food grade" hydrogen peroxide seems to be a legit thing, and the concentrations don't seem enough to make a whole in the frigging stomach, but Jesus Christ, what's wrong with half a teaspoonful of salt? It does the same job.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ it makes the drink not tasty... lol
I used sugar in the past, working pretty well.

1:13 PM
Also hydrogen peroxide is hydrogen peroxide so if you drink enough "food grade" H2O2, it's probably still a nice way to painfully commit suicide

Or just shaked it like crazy. :P

@ShadowWizard You can counter with some sugar if it's salty, but that much salt actually makes it better sometimes

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Sites like slack outright deleting accounts which ever had iranian IPs associated with them citing the need to do so due to sanctions

user168476
@ShadowWizard nope, tis me

@Ash yeah, figured it out with help of others here. ;)

@Mithrandir Don't worry, daily mail is just a sliver above the Onion ;)
Also, TIL I'm anti-natalist :P
I finally have some kind of political label!

well... that's some fresh insanity there

I think I'm the sane kind, that just sticks with 'no procreating'. :P Sueing my parents sounds too insane and like a waste of money.

only counts if your rationale is, "I don't want to get sued by my ungrateful offspring"

Not wanting kids is fine. It's the comparing having children to kidnapping and the thing about having a kid without "consent" from the child.

6:35 PM
@Shog9 It's on the list, though I must admit it's pretty low ;)

why are people so dumb

@Mithrandir Yeah, that stuff is pretty nuts ;)

@Mithrandir the slavery comparison is legit though. Honestly, best argument for having kids: free labor!

probably

6:37 PM
time and culture get too much blame, I think

@Shog9 Unfortunately, as someone living in their parents home, I will grudgingly say that this may in some form be true.

@Shog9 Parents then?

let's be straight with ourselves: most of us are pretty dumb, in some areas, some of the time
assuming that's true universally, then for any given topic at any given time there'll be LOTS of dumb people

Oh, like that.
other kind of dumb :)

well... either one works

usually dumb over here carries a meaning of 'incapable of ever learning'. So yeah, you can not know about something, doesn't make you dumb...

Holding your tongue is a great way to get a dry mouth.

keeps it from wagging though

Two other essentially un-reviewed sites are Tor (78 FP, 64 LA) and elementary OS (44 FP, 4 LA).
