@rene The confusion is that the Imgur site allows .PDF upload and SE doesn't, along with less than perfect UI for uploader previously. In a comment the OP protests that .PDF files are image files, so what they are doing is OK. They've decided to Dropbox it.

Ordered new, slightly off brand mesh networking gear...
amusingly I can get a trio of gigabit capable mesh APs for about 150 sgd off aliexpress
and in theory, I only need gigabit for one, and the 1200AC/fast ethernet models are about half the price if for some reason I needed more nodes

@JourneymanGeek I always assumed Android OS was just another Linux distro?
@rene not really
linux kernel, very different userland
@Rob sure, I didn't want to extend that discussion. It is still not clear what they want fixed: PDF uploads or the strange fakepath appearance. The dupe you choose was one I already offered in a comment. I deliberately didn't close vote as such, due to my confusion.
@JourneymanGeek fair enough.
09:04
@rene and in theory Google could swap the kernel for say fusia

@andmyself might not matter
they've changed the runtime at least once.

@rene My duplicate CV was accepted (and agreed with by 4 other reviewers) 2 hours ago.

Nice thing about my DIY router. I'm basically only ever having downtime for kernel updates, and that's a few minutes every month or so
(and its tons more reliable than any of my consumer routers, other than maybe my old WRT54GL ever was)

@Rob yeah, I got it offered in review as well, which I skipped. If the duplicate closure doesn't get contested I guess we're all okay.

Q: Current state of the stack ignores user needs

JGreenwellI read the blog, I re-read it, I made notes and re-read it again, I walked away and then re-read it for a fifth and sixth time. I still found none of my concerns addressed (see end). First, there will always be a part of me that loves Stack Exchange. It has been therapy for me and given me the ...

TBH I dunno what they're really asking for here
What sort of discussion was this post meant to breed? Or was it simply an announcement?
If the latter, I hardly see any difference with what's being sourly thrown around both metas these days. Scratch that, it was actually 2018 and people have gotten even tired of repeating them over and over
No one is going to be surprised by the revelation
And since nothing specific is being pointed out, hell, nothing specific has been requested, the whole post feels like a comment exceeding the character limit which basically gets summed up to "I don't like SO now."
So I dunno, I should get a nap and go back to studying triangles and surfaces
FTR, the biggest hit has been to our rant quality. "Why they downrate" was way more fun than "Unwelcoming modarator not accetp perfekt porblem"
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Like your rant is going any better now? :P
Self-fulfilling prophecy
14:08
To be honest, I've struggled with finding something to say about that blog post or that meta question myself. I can understand the frustration behind the meta post, I guess. If stuff isn't living up to your expectations... People get mad.
I could be ranting about so many things that are way more fun! Like Rouhani. Or pastafarianism.
How about colds, fevers and periods?
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I think he literally wants change NOW
actually someone was commenting I was a little too positive about it ._.
Or catdog ZarifTrump
@JourneymanGeek Meh, I took a shower yesterday night. I don't smell that bad
@JourneymanGeek What's so wrong with that though? The real danger of being too positive about something is not seeing its pitfalls, but when you acknowledge them, then it's only up to you how to feel about them and the future
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ lol. IDK
I think people expect me to be more critical
which is amusing cause I've also been accused of brown nosing by a few folks.
14:12
I'm more of a headshot type of guy. No headshot, no cigar
I think SE's more than a place for just devs
accusing @Journey of not being able to decide a position
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Well, I do have a position....
That I'd like the communities I'm part of places I'd be proud to associate with.
@JourneymanGeek دست رو دلم نذار که خونه
That was an idiom. I didn't wanna ab-translate it.
I don't read that script
But but
14:14
It's OK, you can pretend I whispered it
they're promising a lotof the things I've complained about in the past
But then you would have been like "WHAT DID YOU SAY WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY"
CM hires? Hell yeah, I've been complaining the CM team has been stretched thin for a while.
If you wanna make sure someone heard a sentence you said, whisper it
Rob
Rob
Yes, more than a place for just devs and quite useful at the task - so many SE sites have nothing to do with programming.
14:16
> But we’re still just scratching the surface. One thing we’ve heard loud and clear from the community is that we need to also address a lot of existing bugs and community debt. These issues have accumulated over the years to lead to confusing and frustrating experiences for all of our users, and we haven’t been doing enough to prioritize fixing them.
I mean, seriously - outside of "What took y'all so long" - they're making all the right noises.
> continuing the Welcome Wagon work of making Stack Overflow more welcoming and inclusive, and a newly focused effort on community improvements and expert user experience.
Depending on how this works out - I do think that the two tasks are .. distinct - one's more 'soft skills and people herding" than the other
Rob
Rob
Cooking.SE could feature a 'computer question' - What's the best program for recipes - do the other programming/computer SE sites want the question, probably not - do people whom use computers cook, or just order pizza - there's probably a site for that question too (but it's probably not the Cooking.SE site or SuperUser.SE sites), etc.
One thing to note is the zombie bug reports existed en masse before all this drama began
@Rob that question would be closed fast.
No one took them as the emblem of lack of trust though. Just something to improve on on their side
also feels like a "programming on a boat" question.
14:20
@JourneymanGeek If "fast" was a pun that would have been your smartest pun since . . . hmm
Rob
Rob
More sites interlinked appropriately, more ranking and more hits = more ADs served to people with low Rep.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ more that at that point of time, other things took precedence and those things kept getting pushed back cause other things needed to be done
@Rob eh, ad serving probably isn't a thing that's core to SE's revenue source for registered users I suspect
and practically most sites run incredibly independantly
we do sometimes help each other out with our experiences but its literally 120+ sites that just happen to run on the same platform
Rob
Rob
We have sponsored sites too.
That's new. But its kinda more product-placementy
Rob
Rob
Quantum Computing ..., So you were shopping around for one?
14:23
Khajit has quantum computer if you have coin... lots of coin....
Rob
Rob
Lego, if that's what you want what else would you buy, the knockoffs?
lego isn't sponsored
Just geek friendly and probably something lots of SE employees love almost as much as cooking.
@Rob I've hired couple of nanobots with nanochip quantum computers to take care of my new kidney.
Preordered, 28 years from now
So much for the nap
Lemme enter my zombie state and solve some math porblemz. BBL

Rob
@JourneymanGeek There's different ways to slide (use other word)-in - free ADs for Lego - bricks.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/450/…
@Rob I'm under the impression a mod decided to do that on their own
Rob
Rob
14:28
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Aren't you worried about tunnelling or decoherence,?
besides.
Its literally a lego site
if TLG wanted to sponsor it, I don't see any issues ;p
14:47
It was Lego.SE before until Lego requested for name change: Site name change request from TLG
15:21
right, this is still the tavern xd
16:17
@JourneymanGeek They sort of do. The Bricks community is an official LEGO community and they get free stuff for promotional events every year.
It's not the same thing as what QC or AI is by any means, but there's a connection.

Q: Spamming random mod tools lets me cast an ordinary undelete vote

wizzwizz4I was playing around with the mod tools (testing out some bugs and stuff) when I noticed that I'd caused this: This occurred because some combination of mod tools added an undelete vote, marked the post as undeleted, and then didn't clear the undelete vote, causing it to be re-applied when the...

@MEEisJohannGambolputty... This is ---not--- the formatting you are looking for
17:47
Given the current design, it's going to do little help to downvote a "lost soul" question when it's already -3 or lower, right?
18:05
@ɪBᴜɢ should be so... AFAIK 20kers can vtd after -3. Also the post is no longer shown on the front page with a score of -3.
@MEEisJohannGambolputty... Frontpage is -8 on meta, AFAIK
@Tinkeringbell oh right, forgot about this. @ɪBᴜɢ So there is a possible reason for this. But after -8 it is no more helpful, IMHO
@ɪBᴜɢ —8

@PrincessLuna I have over 99 Tabs open in Firefox (it doesn't say how many once you get past that number).
19:31
I only have 10+ tabs on each Chrome, 6 instances of Chrome...
Rob
Rob
19:43
That makes it easier to categorize. Even though I have a fairly large screen multiple windows on a mobile phone don't work out well (past 2), I'm already using a magnifying glass.
20:02
@Rob anything above 15 is too many xD
Rob
Rob
I get anxious to close them when I'm past 40 or so, let us know if you get past 40 tabbys. 🙀

21:15
Wow, so unwelcomez
tempted to punch self
I wouldn't be too happy about the first meta post the monitor will post
@PrincessLuna I actually have 16 in this window but one is called new tab so
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ With "New monitor" indicator under their its post?
yeah, I have a blank tab too
I have a tab called about:blank XDDD
21:18
10 in the other window
But you should see me when I'm researching for an answer
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ "Hi i am monitor I am frekvently abused by usr "and myself" who bets me for no reason its very unvelcomming"
:p
@FreezePhoenix Well it says "new tab" on my Chrome and I have typed "Kashmir" in the bar to check the spelling
Mine's got my most recent js experiments. Including toggleable strict mode
My 16-tab window is Google translate community plus SE-related tabs. It's more like a "waste time" window
The other is productivity, when I'm down for some shit. And stuff. One of those.
Hm. Toggling strict mode has proven to be easier than I thought.
It's also kinda cheating, because strict mode is supposed to be irreversible
21:23
I just need an extra tab to fall back on
@FreezePhoenix I'm kinda obtuse right now, strict mode in what?
Strict mode in javascript
Aha, so it doesn't relate to me
Don't think so?
You are allowed to cheat in things that don't relate to me.
@FreezePhoenix Well I guess more so than the average finger warrior on the internet
Good deed of the day: Not cursing the random downvoter
21:26
Well, heh. It's just "cheating" in the sense that it's something you shouldn't be able to do
Plane crash survivors are definitely cheating
But, doing it in arbitrary ways does result in a few issues. Namely, scopes can get messed up. It'd more likely be I wrote a language that compiled to JS, so that scopes don't get messed up.
Think about it. A huge chunk of metal that's kilometers above the ground hits it and some people end up something other than smoothies
Well... it's kinda a little different that just... a huge chunk of metal... it's a reinforced chunk of metal ^^"
It can sandwich you with reinforcements
21:29
Generally though, a plane crashes going parallel to the ground, or almost.
Chance of surviving a nosedive on a plane... 0.
I know, but I wouldn't miss a chance to be funny. To myself
Unless you're in a zeppelin... in which case... /shrug
Boing boing
Hm... well, if you just let the plane collide with the ground, going parallel-ish, it won't completely get to the seats
Or land it on a river. And then get Tom Hanks to play you
21:33
I mean... the metal they make those things out of is tough lol... but... what i find odd, is how they have issues over... 25 people dying in a plane crash. Like... 25 people. At the current rate of plane crashes, I don't think we need to worry about 25/plane crash. How about we worry about the number of people who die daily from wars, and other stuff...
Well it also depends on how easily the deaths could be avoided
Bin Salman doesn't sound like an agreeable guy, but I heard one sloppy programmer can be the murderer of those 25 people. Figuratively literally.
Well... a plane crash is like... geez. That pin was not strong enough. Ok, let's go spend 30M trying to make stronger metal. Wars... it's like... we coulda used that transport for civilians...
oh, yeah, there have only been like... a small number of casualties due to programming mistakes.
@FreezePhoenix Ideally I think the unquestionable authority that would have done something like that would have been the UN
But they're more like this loser bunch of consultants who know nothing better than to "raise concerns" when it gets to tension and conflict
"Dangit. We should have used the transport vehicles instead of just bombing the city"
Well, they can't do much more than raise concerns. They can't force any individual nation to act.
Shrug
I need to nod off. G'night
