12:00 PM
No colds command. It can still catch you without a command. :D

!!/hats-

tiny sneezes

I really can't do tiny, polite sneezes.

ACHOOOOOOO

12:02 PM
@Tinkeringbell don't worry, it is fine that way. First step will be getting you to change your name to Tinkering Bell

@Tinkeringbell me too, but during nights I don't have a choice: my ordinary sneeze will wake up two family members who will get very upset with me. o_O :D

@Derpy Never. :P
@ShadowWizard Yeah, apparently I have that with coughing. It wakes up everyone except me.

I have a habit of inhibiting sneeze and makes it look like cough -_-

@Tinkeringbell :(

otherwise, I'm a silent sneezer

12:05 PM
My two older kids are not affected, airplane can fly over their heads while they sleep and they won't wake up.... but the baby girl is different story. Any noise wakes here up.

shock therapy: record yourself sneezing loudly and play it on repeat in her room for the next week.

@andmyself that's... not healthy.

disclaimer: do not actually try that

Wait, since when is it not okay to try and not sneeze?

Q: Will holding in your sneeze kill brain cells?

ROFLwTIMEI heard from a friend that holding in your sneeze can actually kill a few of your brain cells. I did a google search, but most of the results had no evidence (e.g. Yahoo Answers). Moreover, I checked out Snopes, but it was more of the same. Are there any scientific studies or evidence that suppo...

/cc @andmy ^
Also... this. o_O
Sneeze is natural action of the body, we shouldn't fight it.

12:13 PM
So basically it can cause an aneurysm to rupture? But I thought sneezing itself already could do that... ucihealth.org/blog/2016/05/unusual-causes-of-stroke

Find a way to make it less loud yes, of course, but not try to totally eliminate it.
It's like trying to hold pee forever... it will just cause trouble.
(luckily the body is smart enough to just make it flow eventually :))

@ShadowWizard I thought to conclusion there was that there's nothing to damage you but if you've already got an aneurysm then you might be at risk.

With Shadow, everything comes back to pee.

@Henders well, still... and the second link I added is "better". :)

@Henders Yeah, but if you already have one, sneezing itself is dangerous too! So... I'm going to say it doesn't matter :)

12:14 PM
@Mithrandir hehe, so you noticed the HNQ too. lol
@Tinkeringbell well, didn't dig deep enough... just remembered I read a while ago about holding sneeze being bad for health. :)

@Tinkeringbell But you must!

(sorry, no youtube at work :/)

o_o
And Facebook?

Never tried ;)

And Twitter?

12:17 PM
Twitter works

heh
So just watch vids in Twitter. :D

Too much work ;)

We should set up a bot that posts youtube videos on Twitter for Tink :D

Or you know, just wait until I'm home ;)

Here is vid on Twitter!
Thanks for having me #MLP ! And thanks to @iamingridnilson for being such a rockstar #themaudcouple #MLPSeason8 @discoveryfamily https://t.co/Mt9ICpFqJ7
Could be funny if the vid itself was oneboxed somehow. :D

12:20 PM
Oh hey, Twitter notifications :P

@Tinkeringbell not from me... yet. :P

"the account you reported was found guilty of rule violations"... Duh. Else I wouldn't have reported it. Also... Why did that take a week and a half :/

@ShadowWizard oh, there is also Weird Al voicing Cheese Sandwich just to name one..

You get notified whenever someone Like or Retweet any of your posts, right?

@Tinkeringbell I have that on Instagram... stupid bots trying to follow me all the time

12:22 PM
@Tinkeringbell oooh, that actually worked? Tried it on Instagram some times, and once on Twitter. Never worked.
@ShadowWizard yup

Maybe she's V.I.P on twitter. :)

@Tinkeringbell because they have people in a sweatshop in a third world country handling it.

@Bart Apparently Twitter too thinks that 'Thank the immigrants for that' is hate speech against a group of people.
So yeah, it works. Kinda.

@Tinkeringbell progress

@JourneymanGeek really? That would be sad :(

12:23 PM
@JourneymanGeek isn't this for spammers who bypass Captcha this way?

@ShadowWizard yeah, with a grand total of less than 30 followers :P

@ShadowWizard nope

@Tinkeringbell it's not about the quantity, but rather the quality. ;)

@Tinkeringbell does that make you an "influencer"?

a lot of tech firms actually outsource abuse overseas
there was an article on it

12:24 PM
@Bart I try really hard not to be. So yes

lol
Soon @Tink will be Twitter mod. :D

@ShadowWizard Oh dear. But that will mean I have to say goodbye here, there's no way there's enough time in the world to do both!

@Tinkeringbell do what all their mods are doing, if they really exist: nothing. ;)

@ShadowWizard But... at least one did do something today :P

IMO, the deletion process of reported tweets is 100% automated.
Enough reports, and the tweet goes poof.

12:27 PM
@JourneymanGeek Sounds interesting, got it to hand?

@ShadowWizard So it took a week and a half for enough people to report that thing? :/ Don't think so, it isn't visible enough.

@Henders looking ;p

Much obliged! :)

@Tinkeringbell we can't know... maybe it's more complicated, e.g. it takes into account flagger's past activity, time on twitter, amount of followers, etc... still, I really think it's automated.

wired.com/2014/10/content-moderation [potentially NSFW language. Some sweariness, potentially disturbing situations]

12:29 PM
And once such a post is deleted, all those who reported it get the auto notification.

I THINK this is what I read

@JourneymanGeek you better add [NSFW] besides it...
(language only, but still...)

ehh. Ok
@ShadowWizard better?

Yup :)
I don't care, just speaking on behalf of others who do. :)

Understood

12:33 PM
Huh. That's what I read years ago, when I mentioned spammers solving Captcha before.

@ShadowWizard one difference
these are the "good guys" legit businesses

Spammers??

spammers arn't

Who then?

but there seems something inherently wrong in shifting work you wouldn't do in house cause its too stressful overseas to lower paid workers
Then again, I'm not entirely fond of outsourcing to bodyshops, but I work for one ;)

12:35 PM
heh
> Body shopping is the practice of consultancy firms recruiting workers (generally in information technology sector) in order to contract their services out on tactical short to mid-term basis. IT services companies that practice body shopping assert that they provide real services (such as software development) rather than the "sham" of merely farming out professionals to overseas companies

@ShadowWizard sounds right

Wiki is rarely wrong.
Except when abused on purpose, e.g. latest Trump scandal...

I'm getting entirely different associations with the words 'body shopping' :/

do tell ;p

@JourneymanGeek better not here... :D

12:38 PM
@JourneymanGeek thebodyshop.com/nl-nl :P

@Tinkeringbell practically though, its an additional level of inefficency - other than that it takes even more agency away from the worker

@Tinkeringbell flags as spam :P

@Tinkeringbell {insert derpy uncouth image}

@ShadowWizard I'm not advertising :P
@Magisch How is the body shop uncouth?

Since you're working on contract - its easier for them to drop you than vice versa, they get a cut for essentially... doing stuff the company could, it looks better for the clients accounting or something and gives them a very flexible body of employees who arn't employees...

12:40 PM
@Tinkeringbell lol think @Magi thought something else. Shop which sells, well, bodies.... :D

I was gonna ask, dead, alive or for parts ;p

@ShadowWizard Well, in some cases even that is legal so...

@Tinkeringbell legal of course... uncouth also though. :)

12:41 PM
Yeah okay.

(assuming it's living bodies... dunno if selling corpses is considered uncouth) :D

@ShadowWizard It used to be a thing...

More medieval than uncouth, me guesses ;)

yup
buying 10 corpses for future use
7 seconds...

12:44 PM
@JourneymanGeek The reality is that way people can forego labor regulations and avoid paying overtime/holiday pay or abiding by notice periods

@Magisch yup

@Magisch Possibly also health damage claims.

and basically since a handful of contractors are competing for labour...

So sometimes the staffing agency takes ~20% of the actual wage for not a lot of service

they basically are in a situation where driving salaries down is advantagous, and employees are swappable.

12:45 PM
And then when a workplace doesn't want you anymore they can just tell the agency and since you're on a "flexible hours" contract the agency doesn't have to pay you either unless you work

(which is why starting march, I kinda should look for a new job ;p)

@ShadowWizard oh, its stable
but I probably can do better/more interesting

amazon even goes a step further. They make the drivers create their own companies so they can avoid minimum wage, any labor laws and notice periods and even employer health insurance contributions

Looking for new job is sad by itself, as it means lots of time wasted, lots of frustration, etc.

12:48 PM
@ShadowWizard its less painful when you currently have a job
Its not like something better is going to fall in your lap

Yeah, that is if you find something while having that job... but still, unless really lucky or really talented, still expect lots of rejections and thus frustration. :(

My life is full of rejection and frustration
I can deal.
And occational moments of "Oh, chin up kid, You can do the thing!"

@Magisch To be honest, a lot of that is happening in loads of businesses. There was a news article yesterday about how people feel forced to create their own little business and then hire themselves out to earn more. It works relatively well for those with higher educations, but if people don't have those they get into trouble really soon with things like retirement and insurances :/

ought to be illegal that is

That would be one possible solution, yeah ;P

12:55 PM
Are oneboxes allowed here?

@Henders You'll miss a lot of interesting talks with an attitude like that.
@Henders Sometimes :P

@Tinkeringbell all discussions surely :p

@Henders Depends on how strict you are :P But yeah, that's a possible outcome ;)

We could talk about death!
@Henders as long as no one complains about excessively large gifs

That's completely linked to life though :P

1:01 PM
@JourneymanGeek Did you know that shinigami love apples?

@Derpy yes

1:36 PM
btw, did JNat post any update about the cheese boards?

@Tinkeringbell I'm sooooo sorry

flowers cheer me up any time
especially since I'm a cactus so I too can flower if necessary

What kind of update you looking for, @Derpy?

@Mithrandir just wondering if the logo turned out decently or they had to remove it ^_^'

cheeeeeeseeee....

1:39 PM
Why.... wouldn't it turn out decently?

they weren't sure that it would look good.
I think JNat mentioned a prototype
something like "if it look good we will keep it"
@Magisch any flower?

@Derpy I liked undertale
and flowey

@Magisch deltarune

@Derpy I'm working on it as we speak!
But... I wasn't planning on giving out any further updates aside from mentioning when I'm closing the address collection form, for what it's worth
And the plan, design-wise, is to have the logo on it, yes

thumbs up

1:43 PM
Does anyone know if further contests are planned?

I know, I didn't meant to bother you, but since you mentioned "we will have to check if the logo will look good before deciding" I was wondering if you had any chance to see the finished product.

or is the cheese it?

@Derpy I had... it'll be a surprise for y'all ;)
Well... surprise might give off the wrong vibe
It's really just "Cheese Overflow 2018" and our logo, as the post announced

Now all we need for seriously fine dining is "Wine Overflow 2018" branded wine bottles

veto: not all users are of age

1:45 PM
@Magisch a wine-decanting set!

Easy: "Wine Overflow 2018" branded bottles of grape juice to sub out

@Mithrandir they can go to whine overflow

@JNat Here's your idea for the next contest

@JNat @Tinkeringbell offered yesterday to knit some unicorn plushies.

So in the end people that participated in all of them will have the "Stack Overflow(tm) fine dining set"

1:46 PM

*eyerolls at @Bart*

My job here is done

@Derpy IF YOU SAY KNIT ONE MORE TIME!!!!
I crochet. Thank you.

yesterday, by Tinkeringbell
I could do a crochet unicorn XD

Cricket?

1:47 PM
@Tinkeringbell Then you'll knit an angry response?
hides

It's like calling balpha Balpha: easy to mistake!

ok, @Tinkeringbell offered to craft some unicorn plushies.

grabs @Magi and bringing him to @Tink

2:02 PM
@ShadowWizard you try to grab a cactus. AUCH!

@Derpy Cacti aren't that hard to 'grab' if you know how to do it. I've had to do it a few times when working garden shop ;)
@Magisch I'll crochet an F bomb to throw at Derpy ;)

and also...

you're welcome

Who
I won't touch cactus with bare hands! :D

btw, @Magisch didn't reply.
Deltarune?

2:14 PM
dont know what that is and can't find out at work

................
..................................

> Deltarune is a role-playing video game created by American indie developer Toby Fox. The player controls a human, Kris, in a world where monsters live on the surface of the Earth
..................................

@Magisch ^
waiting till the cactus realizes what he missed

Copy of undertale?

@ShadowWizard of course. A copy made by the same developer

2:18 PM
oh
lol

BTW, Delta Rune is also the name of the symbol on Toriel dress
and if one actually looks a little more into it... it is an anagram of Undertale

Nice!

@ShadowWizard you could still consider playing the games if you are really interested ^_^'

@Derpy I played undertale for a while, but must admit, got bored at some point. Not my cup of tea, I guess. The game is good and very different than all others I played, I must say. :)
Maybe I'm too narrow minded when it comes to games, used to the things I already know. :(
And no, I'm not playing Candy Crush. :D
Jan 31 '17 at 20:48, by Shadow Wizard
Well, I started Undertale as "random stuff" a while ago... nice game. /cc @Derpy
I got it as gift on Steam to be honest, wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

2:36 PM
@ShadowWizard me neither lol, that's a place full of dust in my phone

There was another game I got as gift, forgot its name. :/

Toon Blast is definitely better
(and less girlish, tbf...)

@EKons naaaah. Not playing anything like Candy Crush. I'm against the concept itself. :)
I'm weird, I know. lol
I see this as... "ungaming" or better term "anti gaming".

yeah, the concept is a bit complicated with most Android games :/
one thing I like about Toon Blast (and Candy Crush) is that you'll never see this:
> BLUBLUBLUCURRENCY REMOVE ADS
and there are no ads either :P

No ads in the games I do play either. ;)
(except games for kids on phone which I don't play directly ;))

2:39 PM
I guess the term "Android game" isn't entirely familiar to you, right?

@EKons Game which is an android app?

see? you can't even wrap your head around it! ;-) ah, generation gap...

lol
So fill me in! Plz. :D
Bridge that gap! :P

hm, people of your generation usually say stuff like "aw, that's stupid! come on..." to describe using a phone at all :P

@EKons nah, that's my mother... two generations above me. ;)
(below? Not sure about directions... lol ;))

2:42 PM
(nah, above)

She has a smartphone, she reads WhatsApp messages I send her, never writing anything. And using it to talk only if really needed, which is... never.

also, your mother is most probably two generations above me ;-P

Developer Hell: Have two DateTime fields that are somehow nchar(50) and a single application has 3 methods of uploading files that all use different date formats to fill the nchar fields with
end me now

My grandparents didn't experience smartphone era
But they rocked with Dr. Mario on NES ;p

@ShadowWizard she knows how to open WhatsApp? :O most elders nowadays can't even find the button to turn a phone on after being told so ~100 times...

2:46 PM
@Magisch </end>

</cactus>

@andmyself huh! Good for you! :D
@Magisch time for non elegant string manipulation, I guess.
@EKons yup. When I send her pics I get a phone call (from her home phone of course) after 6-8 minutes or hours, depends when I send. ;)
(just to say thanks for sending the pics, not for any real chatter)

hm, so she doesn't quite know how to send a message with it yet

.... She's better than me :(

@EKons true. She doesn't want to learn either. :/

2:49 PM
@ShadowWizard bonus points : it did not save which method was used, so I get to procedurally access the uploaded file, check the timestamp and find out if it was 2018-10-11 or 2018-11-10

I... Usually responded with only 1 emoji, like 😂

@Magisch not really possible to know. Or is it?
@andmyself which we all do! :D

yeah, my grandma often presses the same very wrong button sequence on her remote and then blames stuff because her TV suddenly doesn't "have channels" (she sets her TV to analog-only...)

LOL
Lock the remote...

whoops, can't do that :(

2:51 PM
With my grandparents it wasn't a real issue, we had only 2 channels in TV back then.

Create a cover with cardboard to block those buttons...

@ShadowWizard The thing saved is the lastModifiedDate of the archive file in question. So it is possible by using a regex to form the archive filepath, locally downloading that file into a queue, re-inputting that file into a js fileinput and then scraping the lastModifiedDate that way.

@Magisch head exploding
:D

@ShadowWizard uh... didn't they have to get up and flip something to change the channel?

@EKons the remote was super simple, so very hard to make mistakes. :D

2:53 PM
oh, so there were remotes?

It's a remote with only "1" and "2" button...

@andmyself almost! lol

oh, so that existed in e.g. the 40s?!

@EKons well, we are not primitives... we have technology... sometimes we just lag behind. :P
@EKons lol.... I'm not that old... I'm talking about the time I was a kid and visited them every day. It was early 80's. :)

ah, alright
so... that's what happens when you use the birth date for comparison, hm

2:56 PM
I remember the peak of technology back then... Teletext!

In the 40's... Well, I heard their stories about a small B&W tube TV

I just subtracted 40 from 2018, and then a couple 25s or so, and bam, 40s! :P

ah, ceetext?

Teletext!

2:57 PM
Yes!
lol
First thing that used kind of internet connection

I guess it was a giant RIP moment when CEETEXT ended

Without real internet.

I was like... 8 years old? "Playing" with teletext?

@EKons lol

(I guess mobile chat should put new messages on the top... Just personal preference...)

2:59 PM
@andmyself I think I was somewhat older... somewhere during teenage range. :)
@andmyself feature request! But meh... not sure I support it.... :)
Just too used to have it this way.

because this darn soft keyboard covers the existing messages... But well, not (yet) a regular mobile chatter...

@andmyself bug
oh wait let me check
lol you're right! I'm just used to having to scroll down to see what it covers. face palm

The gist is: if you're already scrolled to the most bottom already, the soft keyboard only pushes the text input box. But if you just scrolled up a tiny little bit, the keyboard will just cover the existing messages. Which... I guess it's when comparing to the desktop version (don't autoscroll when it's not on the bottom), but I'm still not used to the mobile behaviour...
Okay, moving with another topic~

Weather?
Programming rants?

3:18 PM
beer?

It's night without laptop... (looks like the adapter borked)

^ Relase Trogdor on this question please, @JourneymanGeek @Tinkeringbell
If it quacks like some malware, swim like some malware and looks like some malware...

actually, Trogdor only has power against tags...

3:35 PM
@Derpy poof

yeah, feel the bite of the parrot

3:55 PM
@ShadowWizard I read this as programming rats. Let's chat about those :P
