@READandSee-It'sNotaDupe Yeah, but one shouldn't just go around and convert old-style duplicate closures to newer-style ones. If you come across one in your normal use of the site, that's a different case, but don't search for those and do it to all of them.
(And by the way, the pinging talk was about something totally different.)

Ah. Was that happening?

Shadow does that from time to time.

How about that -- you can't reply to a deleted user.

Q: Don't show reply button on chat messages from a deleted user

Sonic WizardCurrently, on any chat message, there is the "reply" button that automatically inserts the required markup to reply to a certain message. This includes messages from deleted users. However, if you use the button to insert the reply code on a message that was posted by a user with a deleted chat ...

Received a downvote. Deleting.

@SonicWizard I'm explaining my down vote

Actually, I planned to wait five minutes to allow someone to stop me.

Anonymous
@SonicWizard I'd be more excited if they'd stop hiding the reply button on my own messages, so I can easily thread my own thoughts. :P

@rene Edited to be ask for solutions, rather than proposing one. Can you retract downvote please?
@READandSee-It'sNotaDupe Edited to be a bug report.

@SonicWizard no, it's a meh bug

It is expressing which of the potential listed resolutions I think is more suitable and why.

"I might instead call this a bug" is outdated now, and I don't really understand what you mean. Can you please delete and repost?

1. I travel to another timezone
2. Google Calendar suggests to change the timezone to current location. Sounds reasonable. What could go wrong?
3. youcanbook.me which is linked to my calendar sees all events with new timestamps, and changes my availability accordingly
4. Appointments are made that I can only keep with a time machine.

user315433
There has to be a better way to do all of this, but I don't know what it is...

But the decision to nuke the votes seems correct, as the reputation loss is disproportionally concentrated on that one user: math.stackexchange.com/…

@bro I'm not a 100% sure, but maybe that could be asked at SE Travel.

Looks like more of Web Applications question.

user315433
For now, my solution is to tell Google Calendar to stop tempting me with timezone changes, and use its "secondary timezone" feature instead.

Hmm, but seems a frequent problem for travellers.

user315433
Having two timescales is confusing but I think I'll manage for the duration of travel.

Your comment didn't work, he didn't change the link.
Now it starts to smell of spam, to be honest.
What's that site he links to?
So he's either really thick headed, or a spammer who just happens to have account for long time.

@ShadowWizard a danish medical equipment site

huh, finally spammy link removed.

@ShadowWizard they edited

When was this "Misleading link" feature added to Smokey? Pretty neat.

@ShadowWizard not sure. They have some smart kids working on Smokey ;)

It's really interesting what people consider "rude" nowadays:
Please think twice. Please don't be rude. Of course it wouldn't make much sense that a technician changes the coating color of the device itself. That's exactly what we want to say by ruling out the other options. — Md Ayquassar 5 mins ago

@SonicWizard Just wait at least 24 hours before flagging for mod attention.

@πάνταῥεῖ I think he's trying to evade the filter. But the harassing comment by itself is worthy for a moderator flag.
@πάνταῥεῖ Yep, he's trying to evade it:
3 votes a day is not harassment or is it? — Muze 1 min ago

I flagged it as rude or offensive. At least the word choice justifies that.

A: Why are there two separate boxes about duplicate questions?

Well, we've got all time of the world (universe). And the engine will delete that after 30 days anyways. You may ask for deletion if you're either accompanied with that crew, or if that question would have lost attention from the main page. Just my 2¢.
No need for speed.

@SonicWizard just flag for a mod and stop posting here. There is nothing we can do. Disengage.

@rene "Disengage." Or better: Just slow down.

@rene You guys can flag the comments, resulting in their automatic deletion, or go to the review task of that answer and Recommend Deletion on it?

@πάνταῥεῖ No, slow down could be interpreted that it is okay to continue posting links to comments and answer from an upset user. This room is not anyones personal voting mob. Stop it.
And that ^ goes for you as well @SonicWizard

@SonicWizard I already flagged that one comment you mentioned, so I think that should be enough to attract a mods attention.

8:54 PM
Just flag for a mod, let them handle it, disengage.

@rene I'm comparably rarely ask for closure / deletion.

whatever

(since due to the new top bar, people aren't going into the review queue)

I tried to suggest an edit to stackoverflow.com/questions/1383364/… — I believe "coe" should be "code". It was rejected on grounds that "This edit does not make the post even a little bit easier to read [...] Changes are either completely superfluous or actively harm readability.". Now this sounds silly, or am I missing something?
Either way, that looks like a typo. If anybody with privileges to edit agrees, it's a quick edit.

@njsg Either way that looks like an off-topic question with a link only answer at Stack Overflow for me. If you think it's worth editing, just do so ...

I don't even know where would that be on-topic, I'm quite new to chat
well, SE chat

@njsg I'm not arguing about your chat request here, but the post you referred to.

user315433
@njsg I edited but I agree it's not a good fit for SO.

user315433
Too broad, and as a result, the answers are just links to stuff.

9:52 PM
Ah ok, I didn't think a lot about it, I got there from a search engine and noticed the typo.

user315433
Was the post helpful in your search?

@njsg There's an ole saying you should refrain from "editing turds".
:-P

user315433
While a post exist, it may as well be better readable. The saying is more about the posts soon to be deleted.

user315433
I don't see an urgent need to delete that one.

@bro Neither needs to be edited really.

9:55 PM
It has some information, but I had seen it already elsewhere (in the linked question), so it wasn't that much useful.
But perhaps somebody with more experience in that topic would be able to give a useful answer, even if it is a broad question.

@njsg "even if it is a broad question" If it's categorized as too broad, it shouldn't be answered at all.

@ShadowWizard I've got my recent lessons at the German Language today :-P ...

@πάνταῥεῖ hmm?
Did I miss drama? :(

@SmokeDetector There shouldn't be any sceptic questions about that topic!
That's so off I can't really tell how much!
What difference would the numbers make? If it was a single 1 or 6 millions?

10:35 PM
@Shadow I'm not sure if you can see everything (included my now deleted answer) there. I just lost my patience to argue with that OP, and added the (seemingly) relevant tag to their question.

user315433
@πάνταῥεῖ Likely a recurring troll who throws in one-line Holocaust-themed "questions" on both Skeptics and History.

user315433

@bro Disgusting!

There are versions of that that Charcoal instantly red-flag nukes.

@bro Probably need to be extended :-P

Fortunately that shit was removed now, as it deserved to be!

11:38 PM
@ShadowWizard And a little follow up "drama" to urge the OP to put a resilient reference for their answer, same way as they required with their former question themselves.
