What I usually see is that "Egoistic power hungry high rep users downvote everything in sight and close everything"
So yeah, it could be against the meritocratic system mostly
Although there are some delusional peeps who think SO is obliged to help them.

If that's the case then there's not really anything to argue against. It's a "agree to disagree" kind of thing then, imo...

Agreed
They'll rant all day and night, nothing to worry about haha

I learnt much on SE, especially the "agree to disagree" thing. In fact, I was introduce to that phrase here....
And also "stand corrected"
Not sure I will see those phrases on other forums...

@HTTPS yeah it's used here from ancient times indeed.
Oct 16 '10 at 14:42, by rchern
we're going to have to agree to disagree.
:)

@Magisch I think they are more close to this. With the added bonus of diversity discrimination thrown in somewhere along the road. And be vary, I have seen multiple cases of rude discriminating behavior that was handled with a "pat on the head" compared to what I would have done if I were the mod in those situation. Those same users wouldn't walk the chat now.

2:08 PM
Bit related to what discussed before, Rebecca started with obscure name which doesn't reveal her gender, than at some point changed it, and finally used her full real name.

@ShadowWizard yep, those are some other rooms here on SE. And knowing me, it should be pretty easy to discover which rooms they are

@Derpy Are you talking about a trend or isolated incidents?
@Derpy Also, examples always help
"I have seen" can be dismissed with "well show me".

user202362
holy, one of the amateur teams have built a real sized hobby self driving car with a PC sitting on it, lol

I just made a discovery. SO, MSE, and SE have three different chat users per account

2:17 PM
If there's a pattern of letting people off the hook for serious infractions it'd be nice to bring up say on meta

@Unitato congrats, you just won a cookie :)

@Magisch Oh, I totally know that. But please forgive me if now I do not intend to start a new discussion on issues I already fought on in the past. So, fell free to not believe me if you wish, I won't take any offense from that. To be fair, I fully understand if you wish to.

My MSE chat account is Unitato, while my general SE account is Pritt Balagopal
noms the cookie
Jokes aside, is this intentional?

@Derpy Idk, I know it's not your fight
You're not the person spewing forth insults on twitter either so not sure why I'm roping you into this

I also noticed that regular SE chatrooms start with chat.stackexchange, while this one starts with chat.meta.stackexchange (which is misleading since this isn't chatting about chatting :P)

2:20 PM
@Magisch I meant that I prefer to avoid posting references to what I still think was very poor handling of severe rude behavior from some users in the pasts, since it would only fuel further discussion about those specific incidents. Which I don't need. And nor does this chat room or the server.

@Unitato Yeah, intentional... at least it was several years ago.

Well it's a good thing I can be a unitato here and someone else somewhere else
I have different names for most of the different sites where I am active

And merging now is difficult because of ID conflicts.

But most of them have a common chat user, except on Meta and SO

2:26 PM
@Feeds Let's, for a moment, enjoy the beauty of the tree on today's XKCD...

@Unitato different server ;p
there's 3

Three servers huh

One for SO, one for MSO, and one for the rest :)
Makes sense.

2:28 PM
from what I get, MSE's server is also used internally

I'm still confused as to why they chose the url as chat.meta.stackexchange, wouldn't that be more applicable to Q&A about the chat system?
A meta about chats

@JourneymanGeek indeed
@Unitato no, that's

@Unitato its chat for meta
also, presumably easier HTTPS

Ahh, so chat based questions are allowed on Mother Meta itself

which is why we went from meta.foo.stackexchange.com to foo.meta.stack...

2:31 PM
@Derpy aww, you can only have 3 UFOs

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, but that analogy doesn't work. ChemistrySE's chat isn't chat.chemistry.stackexchange

@Unitato more that its chat for people using the mother meta.

@Unitato Historical reasons. Meta Stack Exchange used to be called Meta Stack Overflow, and this chat server used to have the URL chat.meta.stackoverflow.com. SO had its own server, and the general SE server was supposed to only be for sites other than Stack Overflow. Since it didn't really make sense to put MSO's chat onto the SO server, they made its own separate server for it.

uhh, iBleed..

@Unitato cause they didn't want a seperate domain for each

2:31 PM
@Unitato It will redirect, though.

Wow you're right
It does redirect
@SonicWizard Whoa whoa, so the entire network was using SO's meta all that while??
Must've been a hell lotta traffic then

@Mithrandir those are not "UFOs", those are lights. Place them so they shine their light on the ground, change the color or adjust the light focus. Then relax and wait the outcome.

@JourneymanGeek But they were originally going to, from what I understand.

@Unitato No, SO didn't have its own meta. See

@Catija I don't think they quite realised how many sites they were going to start back then ;p

2:34 PM
Probably not... and three is confusing enough as it is.

Oh, so basically per-site metas didn't exist back then right?

In the beginning Jeff said, "Let there be SOFU."

hmm
first there was no meta

No meta
That would've sucked

then people were like "we need meta" and The Atwood said no.

2:35 PM
NOooo

Then The Atwood realised he was wrong, and made meta.
And it was good!

Atwood said No to Meta??

Wow, thats thankful

Then the sites got the metas. And it was better

2:35 PM
Meta is the lifeline of SE

then they realised, SO had nought its own meta
this was bad

Whoa, so every site had a meta except SO
In the beginning

and in a heroic effort in the fires of mount shog, they forged a NEW META!

This conversation is too meta

and it was epic!

2:36 PM
Wow

Which one was the new meta? This one or meta.stackoverflow?

MSO was kinda new

I see more downvotes in meta.stackoverflow btw

2:36 PM
but MSE basically had a bunch of content moved over

There's a hidden message just below Shadow in the above image...can anyone decipher it?

MSE maintains the structure of MSO, so in theory MSO is the new one

Ahh okay makes sense

So people won't complain "ahhh my repzzz!!!!11!" on MSO anymore

Hint: it requires pyrotechnics

2:38 PM
Ahh I see.
But MSE has it's own rep system while MSO uses SO's
Just like any other child meta

Eh... MSO doesn't really have rep, just badges.
So downvotes don't cost anyone anything.

Because MSE (previously MSO) is its own site

Unless... someday... we got Meta MSE

It's metas all the way down.

@HTTPS Year 210X. Will get that, alongside the Reploids Wars.

@SmokeDetector Too slow

MSE used to be called MSO. It used to cover both SO-specific questions, and network-wide questions. SO didn't have a per-site meta back then. Then MSO was renamed MSE, and SO got a new per-site meta, now called MSO.

Wow, that mustve been quite an event
Explaining to everyone the changes

@ShadowWizard so, did you find the room?

2:44 PM
@SonicWizard Is this the hidden message "Explain xkcd: It's 'cause you're dumb."?

@Unitato No
I said it's below Shadow, inside the above image

Oh well rip
I cant see anything there

You can if you use pyrotechnics

@Unitato to be fair, xkcd games are often so complex that the wiki is a necessity.

@Derpy Can you find it?

2:51 PM
Is it "Relax."
That's what I get on mouse hover

@Unitato No, that's not it. (I didn't put that there, must be your browser or an extension.)

XKCD has been singing "corrosion" for the past ten minutes now and I can't figure out how to make it stop with the UI

@SonicWizard you are talking about that Shadow picture, he is talking about the xkcd garden page.

@Derpy Ah, thanks.

BTW I hope you didn't use the same trick they used with the Diablo 1 splash screen.

3:01 PM
Or IE's highlight trick...

What are those @Derpy @HTTPS?

@SonicWizard Diablo one launcher background picture contained a very lame "joke" (or to be more precise, a pathetic child level joke) - between Diablo horns, one section of the picture used sightly different colors. Using some image editor, you could make out a word written there. You can easily google the rest.
don't expect anything worth knowing though, as I said it was very lame.

@SonicWizard explained on here, but the example image seems dead

@Derpy No, I used a lot more insidious trick...you can't see it using a normal image viewer

@SonicWizard puzzling.SE awaits thee.

Q: Hidden message embedded in image

gparyaniThere is a hidden message embedded within the below image just below the graphic of Shadow the Hedgehog that cannot be viewed using a normal image viewer. Can you find it? Hint: To find it, you need to use pyrotechnics. Bonus points for finding the user being referred to by the image.

@SonicWizard I'm tempted to comment but it will ruin the bonus points.... ;)
(maybe I'll change my name though)
@Derpy I... eh... still didn't look. :)

@ShadowWizard as I said, should be simple.

Do stubs from deleted messages not show up in the transcripts?

@Catija Not if you're not a mod (or 10k?)

@Catija No, they don't.

So if I want to find a deleted chat message, I have to go back in the actual chat room to find it?
That's ... annoying.
@CalvT븃 not 10K...

@Catija If it's too old, you wouldn't be able to see it

3:57 PM
It was from Friday.

@Catija If you know which non-deleted messages were between it, there's a trick to find it

Which non-deleted messages were before and after it?

3:59 PM
No... the one I posted is the one I'm talking about.

Oh, so the one you linked to is it, but you can't see it as a mod? (The author of the message can still see it.)

@SonicWizard I'm not a mod here.

@Catija So I guess you can only see it if you're a mod. I'd contact SE.

... also, I apparently can't ping @rossipedia?
@SonicWizard I can see it.
It's my message.

4:02 PM
But he's in the user list...

@Catija AFAIK not, including moved messages (as shown on Smokeys post to the Chimney)

@Catija He's not in the pingable list

... which is not usual, I think... right?

@Catija Don't believe so...@SFTP can you help?

I can understand a dev finding a way to be in the room and not pingable... it's just frustrating.

user315433
4:06 PM
That'd be nice to have for users as well.

user315433
No idea how it works.

Unless I'm blind, I don't see rossipedia on this room's user list

@Catija It's just caching. Refresh the page, and you'll no longer see rossipedia in the icons.

That's weird.

I found in general that if your device is asleep while a Websockets ping is sent, you won't see its result

user315433
But isn't it possible to ping a user for 2 days after they left?

More like a week.

user315433
Can't find a canonical ref on meta

@Catija @SFTP He probably left, and then manually removed himself from the pingable list (as a dev)

A: How to make sure I'll be pingable in chat for a few days?

nicaelIf I recall correctly, you can be @pinged for a week since your last visit to the room (even if you're not currently present among the room visitors), supposing that you ever posted in that room. @M.A.R. you mean for how long one remains pingable? Yes, 7 days since last visit, but only if that person ever posted a message in the room.
From Shadow "the Ping" Wizard

So removing all his messages means he's no longer pingable. Neat

They can be difficult to capture, since flags can come and go quickly.

yeah, if I have a bit more time I might try to stage that here on MSE so we can capture all bits.
